Positive aspects of school
"The teachers and administrative staff were very kind. I loved that the school's location was in the city center, allowing me to commute daily through a beautiful neighbourhood. I'm not very familiar with European vacation schedules, so I thought August might be the busiest, but surprisingly, June and July had more students. There were many young participants attending the junior programs. Since I stayed for two months, I was able to take part in almost all the activities offered outside the travel trips."
Negative aspects
"Naturally, there is no air conditioning. I don't know what winter is like, but days exceeding 35℃ were difficult. Since the area is at a high altitude, the mornings are refreshing. Although having fewer students might seem beneficial for speaking up, there's a possibility of being placed in the same class as people with very different language levels. I believe this can be stressful for everyone involved. I realise this is unavoidable since private lessons are offered as a separate course. In most of the classrooms, the desks were too small for the textbooks"
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
"The school did not send any communication beforehand, but when I arrived on the first day, I was greeted warmly. While starting on the designated 'Beginner's Day' is highly recommended, it is absolutely fine to start mid-week if your schedule doesn't allow it. I highly recommend this school."
Details of the review
City/place
"Even though I was there for two months, I only went out in the evening about ten times, and my impression is that the city is extremely safe. The central area is very lively, even close to midnight. There are also many events held in the squares and churches, so I believe there is plenty of entertainment available. Early in the morning, cleaning vehicles run throughout the city, keeping everything very clean. There are also many wonderful bars and cafés to explore."
Quality of teaching / language progress
"I enrolled in the 25-hour weekly course. The final hour is dedicated to a conversation class, where the focus is on discussing a specific topic, though the exact theme varies by teacher. Students who received their education in Japan might find this challenging, but for me—since I didn't speak much during the preceding four hours—it was a very valuable time."

"The college and staff were really nice. The teaching was very good. I had two reservations about the set up. First, on the first day, another student and I were kept waiting for 30 minutes in a classroom on our own and did not know what was going on. We weren't given a proper learning needs assessment. Secondly, there was no activity programme operating. We were just given the option of a bring and share meal with the other students."

"1. When I asked for more information and pictures of the optional accommodations the secretary sent me a link to a fancy and very expensive hotel instead. They didn't make much effort to help me find accommodation and in the end I booked through AIRBNB and not with the help of the school. 2. The school offers only notebooks with exercises and no other materials what-so-ever, no books, no internet site to practice or any other up-to-date method of teaching. When you study rules and don't have printed materials it is very problematic."

"Check before you book about the starting dates of the course. I didn't as it said that only complete beginners should start on certain dates and then I arrived on the last week of the course which made it difficult to join a group. I had to have individual lessons in the first week so that I could join a group the following week. Salamanca is a beautiful city and I loved all of it. I would definitely recommend taking a course here with the Colegio de Espana."

"There are too many great things to mention but go to Van Dyck area for tapas instead of the main tourist spots, get the views of the city from the cathedral and if you like things a bit grungy go for a drink to the Pan y Agua bar near the Plaza Mayor. I would also like to say that I was much older (34) than the average student, most of whom were 18/19 year old gap year students but they were all really friendly and fun and I think I have made some good friends so if you are a bit older don't let it put you off and just allow yourself to regress a little bit!"

"A good course and great teachers. A downpoint was that there were no hand-outs of the course material. The course material existed of a working manual and a small book only, which only covered a small part of the course. I asked the teachers which book I could use for self- tuition and she was so kind to bring me a book, but I would have been better if there were hand- outs given in class. In the end, it was a great teacher and her classes were very good."

"At the time I've been there, there were mostly people at the beginning of their 20's in my course, wanting to party all the time. It was a little difficult, if you have different intentions. Also: I very much suggest to start at the recommended dates. I did not and it turned out that there was only one other who came later in the whole school, so all the social stuff at the beginning had already happened and it was not so easy to get in contact with others."
