How we create the points regarding what we like/dislike about a school

Location: CIAL Centro de Linguas Lisbon is one of the oldest Portuguese language schools in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. The school is housed across two separate buildings within a moment's walk of each other in the Saldanha neighbourhood. The surrounding area is ripe with shopping malls, convenience stores, supermarkets, links to public transport and several green spaces. Within walking distance of the school are the Parque Eduardo VII, the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, several miradors to look over the city and the Fonte Luminosa.

Course selection: CIAL Lisbon offers a wide range of Portuguese courses, with something suitable for students of all levels. In addition to General Portuguese, available over several schedules and intensities, the school also provides combination programmes of Portuguese with specific subjects and activities such as professional internships, volunteering and surfing. Teacher Training programmes are also available at various times throughout the year. One-to-one or two-to-one tuition is also readily availble for students that require Portuguese for specific purposes.

Getting around: The school is within a 300m walk of the Picoas subway and bus stop, which offers several bus routes and one of the main subway lines that runs until the central Rato subway station.

Social and cultural: There are several green spaces around Lisbon, the most prominent of these being the national forest of the Parque Florestal de Monsanto, which is around a 50-minute journey from the school via public transport or a 15-minute taxi ride. Attractions and sites of interest, such as the Arco da Rua Augusta, the National Museum of Tiles, the Castle of St. George and several of the city's most popular miradors, are all within a 30-minute journey of the school via public transport.

Student opinions about CIAL Centro de Linguas, Lisbon

Liked
I loved the people there the most. The teachers were amazing. They were very sophisticated, know so many things (I was in awe in hearing Paulo's stories of his past jobs and experience) humorous, and just beautiful. Every week there would be new students, but the teachers knew how to welcome the new comers without changing the speed of teaching. Thus, it was good for both new comers and students who were there before. NOt only the teachers, the students there were very nice and ambitious. Perhaps because CIAL is not that cheap, students who go there are very interesting people with their diverse backgrounds. They were all humble, nice, and very caring.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss I would advice you to try to apply the course on the first week of the month if you are new to the language because that is when you start doing the workbook from the start. Since, portuguese was new to me, it was good that I went in the first week. Also, you learn a lot in just three weeks. You learn the basics in the first three weeks. (But, because I don't speak Spanish and I only know English and japanese, I cannot understand what the portugese people are saying etc)However, I think if I stayed there for another two months, I would have been able to speak more fluently and understand Portuguese .

Other comments I am very happy I went to CIAL in lisbon. Everybody who was there all liked lisbon as well. It is a beautiful city. There are so many things to do. The night never sleeps in Lisbon as well. Everybody is very kind. If you do try to speak portuguese, they would make time to listen to you. My friends and I used to go to this one cafe shop a min away from the school during the breaks, and the waiter there would sometimes teach us simple portuguese. Also, many people there speak English which can be both pros and cons. I would recommend you to take some classes outside of school as well! It is very cheap to learn things in Lisbon. I went to the gym nearby the school and my other friends were learning yoga and going to dance classes (jazzy) I think this is good because you can interact with the local people more.

I would have liked to give a sixth star for the quality of the teaching. Both in the mornings (lessons from the book) and in the afternoons (consolidation, communication), the teachers were of the highest standard. The exchange with the other students (from Canada and France) was also very interesting.
