**Objectives**
The core class is an integrated skills class. It covers reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. In this class you'll improve your accuracy (how correct your English is) and fluency (how well you can communicate). Lessons have daily and weekly objectives so you know what you’ll learn and how you’ll learn it. The teachers provide you with regular assessments that allow you to keep track of your progress. Teachers use the Communicative Approach, so you'll learn English by using English, not by listening to grammar lectures and doing worksheets. They feel strongly that this is the most effective method to acquire English that students can use in the real world.
The Syllabus for each level is mapped to the CEFR levels A1-C2. The levels define what you can do and Stafford House believes that language is for communication. Each of the Core Class Course Books is also mapped to the CEFR providing a consistent basis for developing your language skills.
**Flexibility**
From Standard to Intensive and Super Intensive, the range of English language courses offers you a choice on how intensively you want to study - whether that’s 20 lessons a week on a Standard course or 30 lessons a week on the Super Intensive. Plus with the school's range of modules you get to personalise your course to fit your needs.
**How you learn**
The school believes that you will learn faster and more effectively if your lessons are engaging, fun and relevant, that’s why the teachers use a range of techniques and develop classes that are motivating and build your confidence. This will allow time to focus on any areas of weakness. Any weekly programme is influenced not only by the course book syllabus but also by the learning goals and interests of the students in any one group.
**Testing on arrival**
On your first day you will take a language assessment, to assess your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and how well you are able to understand and speak English. This helps teachers to understand the class you’ll be happiest and most successful in.
**Monthly Tutorial**
Every month you’ll have a one-to-one tutorial with a senior member of the academic team to make sure you are on track to achieve your goals and fulfil your potential. It’s a great opportunity to review your course choices and learning methods and to really make sure you achieve what you want to achieve.
**Quality Assurance
The Directors of Studies are based in all of the schools to ensure the programmes are of the highest possible quality, the average class sizes are small, and that the students leave having gained the maximum from their time with the school.

Therefore, these Standard Morning English classes allows students to progress at a pace with which they feel comfortable.
Of course, the teacher is always available to help you, if you need it. That is, the qualified teachers understand that different people learn in different ways and will try to explain things differently if students are struggling. At Rose of York, the teachers follow a course book (which you should buy if you’re studying with the school for 4+ weeks) and they encourage homework to be completed. Homework ensures that you practice the grammar and vocabulary studied in class. With afternoons available, it is a great opportunity to focus on your own development.
**Free Time**
With plenty of free time in the afternoon, students also have to chance explore the centre of London and beyond. Additionally, students have the chance to participate in the social activities programme. Most importantly, living and studying in London gives students a great opportunity to put the language they learn in class into practical use. At Rose of York, they believe in practical learning whereby students are encouraged to explore London and give recommendations.
Please note, if students are planning to travel to the UK on a study visa, students cannot study any fewer hours. Students on a study visa must study a minimum of 15 hours per week.

It is safer, however, to also provide details of how the English language course will help the student to continue their studies or find employment in their home country.”Naadiya, Compliance Manager from English UK - Oct 19, 2023What financial documents are required for a short-term study visa?“As per 2023, students who apply for short-term study visas must submit financial documents from their own bank accounts to prove they have sufficient funds. This rule also applies to 16 & 17-year-olds. Accounts relied on must be in the name of the applicant (either alone or as a joint account holder).”Naadiya, Compliance Manager from English UK - Oct 19, 2023What's the main reason for short-term study visa refusals?“The most common issue currently is when financial documents are not in the student's name. Another issue is when there is no evidence about a student's plans for the future.
”Naadiya, Compliance Manager from English UK - Oct 19, 2023How long can you stay in the UK with a short-term study Visa?“As per 2023, Short-term study visas allow students to study English in the UK for between 6 and 11 months.”Naadiya, Compliance Manager from English UK - Oct 19, 2023When I order a language course through you, can I get an invoice directly from the school that issues the certificate?“Yes, the invoice will be issued by the school.”Gosia Mazur, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 19, 2023Are the Family Programmes available throughout the year or only on specific dates?“Family Programmes are usually available every July of the year.”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Sep 04, 2023I want to travel to the UK next year, can I book now?“Even if you plan to travel next year, you can book now and benefit from this year's prices; from 1 January, most schools will increase their prices. However, you will need to have your booking 100% paid for before the end of this year.”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - May 09, 2023Do I have to take out health insurance if I am travelling with a European passport?“For the time being (2023), European students have free medical coverage with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 20, 2023Do I have to take out health insurance if I am travelling with a European passport?“At the moment, European students are covered free of charge with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 20, 2023I am looking for a course for adults with morning or afternoon classes. I don't mind combining it with private lessons.“What you are looking for is offered by almost all the schools we work with in the UK. If you provide us with some more information, such as start date and duration in weeks, we can send you some proposals.”Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 14, 2023Is it possible to apply for a student visa with the right to work when registering for a language course?“You can apply for a Standard Visitor visa or a Short Term Study visa depending on the length of your language course. These two types of visa do not entitle you to work.
”Irina Zotova, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 20, 2023Is it possible to use the Teacher's Card for a stay abroad?“We are an International agency based in Spain, so we cannot accept the teacher bonus as it is administratively incompatible with the Italian miur management timeframe, however I recommend that you ask them for an updated list of schools that accept this type of bonus.”Antonio Zoppo, LanguageCourse.Net - Dec 01, 2022I'm looking for a spring/summer course for my 16 year old twins. We are from Germany. Are the classmates exclusively from Germany or an international mix?“The participants in the programs come from all over the world. You can see the mix of nationalities and the average age on the school profile.”Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 10, 2022Do you offer English for Law courses along with TOLES preparation?
“We can recommend schools which offer English for Law courses. For the TOLES exam preparation we recommend private lesson packages that you can tailor to your needs.
”Gosia Mazur, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 17, 2022Do you have any English and Design courses in England?“We have several English, Arts and Design courses in England. They can be found on our website, or you can contact us and we will be happy to give you a link with all the options.”Louise Granath, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 17, 2022Can a face to face meeting arranged with the school prior to confirm the registration?“In some cases yes, the schools offer the possibility for a walk in visit prior to confirm the booking. Of course this is on request, and subject to availability.”Ángel Marcos Portoles, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 11, 2022Can you do an English TOEFL preparatoy course in a non-english speaking country?“You certainly can! However he would like to attend the course two weeks before his 16th birthday. Is that possible?
“Unfortunately, this is not possible in the UK. It isn’t a decision made by the schools. The British Council regulations do not allow schools to place students under the age of 16 in adult courses. Even if the student will nearly be 16 years old, we can't accept him. The minimum required age for adult courses is 16-18 years in the UK.
”Nela Hima , from Eurocentres, UK - Feb 15, 2022My son would like to go to England to do his master. For the University he would have to expand his language skills. Which courses could you recommend to him?“A General English course combined with the IELTS Academic preparation fits perfectly for your son. It is relevant which proof of English he has to show for the Master in UK. This information should be found in the acceptance regulations of the respective universities. The IELTS certificate is for academic purposes and is mostly required prior to admission to higher education in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. In any case, this course will help you son to improve his English for his academic goals.”Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.net - Oct 29, 2021Is there any inconvenience if I am 72 years old? Which formula would be the best -accommodation and classes- in order to make the most of my time?“Age is not a problem! Schools accept students from all adult age groups. This means that you will be with other international students and some will be older and others younger than you. The groups are classified according to the level of knowledge of the language. To give you an idea: the average age throughout the year is about 25-30 years and it drops to 20-25 during the summer months.
If, for whatever reason, you prefer to book a course intended only for older students (aged 50+), there are some schools that offer this option.
The 50+ courses are often a combination of lessons, sightseeing, special activities and meeting people of the same age group. These courses are the perfect place to make new friends while learning a new language or refreshing what you learned long ago.
In general, these courses are usually offered in the early or late season and last one to two weeks. Start dates vary, so start planning ahead of time. If you let us know where you want to travel, we can send you the options.

At the moment in which we are writing, nationals from Italy do not require a visa to study short-term courses up to 180 days. Documentation regarding the purpose of the visit must be shown at the border in order to enter the country. Are there courses for people of this age?“Yes, it is possible. Moreover, many schools offer special courses for those over 50. The duration they recommend is at least 6-8 weeks, the best option being a course of at least 12 weeks. Please bear in mind, however, that this is a specialised course and may have compulsory durations and/or fixed dates, so we recommend that you send your application well in advance.”Antonio Zoppo, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Jan 09, 2023I would like more information about English courses for over 50s in Gibraltar.“In Gibraltar the 50+ programme is offered at the teacher's home, which also includes extra activities and is available with 10,15 and 20 lessons per week. Unlike group courses, this programme provides total immersion in the language, ensuring much faster learning, and avoiding the inevitable distractions that can sometimes occur in standard group courses.”Antonio Zoppo, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 11, 2022I would like to certify my level of English. Is it possible to do so in any of your schools in Scotland?“If you take an English course, at the end of it you will obtain a diploma showing your level of the language, but it is not an official degree. If what you are looking for is to obtain an official degree from the University of Cambridge, IELTS or similar, you must take an official exam.”Rubén De Haro, from LanguageCourse.net - Mar 23, 2022I'm looking for a course, and was wondering if you or the schools take care of the flights.“No, neither we as an agency nor the schools are in charge of organizing the flights for our students.
We do recommend to our students not to book the flights though until the registration has been fully confirmed.
Although we do not take care of the flights, our students can book the airport pick-up. You can request it directly on our registration form or at a later date, providing your arrival details and ensuring that you give enough advance notice for the school to organise your pick-up in time.”Rubén De Haro, Area Manager - Spanish from LanguageCourse.net - Feb 17, 2022I would like to book a course and accommodation, but I still don't know the exact date of my trip. Can I make a reservation for specific dates and later rectify them if necessary?“It won't be a problem. If you book with us you can change your course, or starting dates free of charge up to 10 days before the start of the course. We will take care of the change fees that the schools would normally apply.
For accommodation we can nearly always have the change fees waived for you. Contrary to other booking platforms we will never charge a change fee to a client from our side. ”Rubén De Haro, Area Manager - Spanish from LanguageCourse.net - Nov 22, 2021I am 72 years old. Is it a problem? What formula would be best, both for accommodation and for lessons, for the purpose of making the most of my stay in the UK?“Age is not a problem! Schools accept students from all adult age groups. This means that you will be with other international students, some may be older and some younger. Groups are organized based on level, not age. During high season, if there is more than one group of the same level, age will also be taken into account. To give you an idea, the average age throughout the year is around 25-30, and drops to 20-25 in the summer months.
If, for whatever reason, you prefer to book a course that is intended for mature students (50+ years of age), there are some schools that offer this possibility. These courses are specially designed for more mature participants of 50 years and older. Naturally, all our adult courses are open to this age group. However some may prefer to opt for the category 50+ where you will find both, courses with students of your own age (normally 50-69 years) and a specific programme with cultural and culinary activities. Please note that these programmes usually have special starting dates and a fixed course duration.
Language study coincides with sightseeing, special activities and meeting new people from the same age bracket. 50+ courses are a great place to make new friends while learning a new language, or brushing up on an old one. Generally these courses are offered mostly in the Spring or Autumn and are one to two weeks in length. Start dates vary so be sure to plan in advance.”Rubén De Haro, Area Manager - Catalan from LanguageCourse.net - Oct 13, 2021I have an auntie aged 65 who would like to study English in the UK. She would like to book a senior program, do you have any recommendations?“In the UK, I can recommend to you the senior programme offered by Inlingua in Cheltenham. The English 50+: Gardens and Tours / British Culture and Customs run on specific dates and it's not available year-round. The course includes homestay accommodation.
The programme is uniquely designed for mature students. The English lessons take place in the morning where students will talk about the afternoon trip: they will go through the vocabulary, sentences, and expressions that they are likely to encounter. Social activities include trips to gardens, Cotswolds Villages, cathedrals, river cruises, etc.”Ana Carolina, Area Manager from LanguageCourse.net - Oct 11, 2021course destinations
