A kind of test day would be better to find a better language level

In the intensive course I would have wished for extra learning, it was more of a repetition of the standard course

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
My teacher was very good, and the course format and materials were good too. People in class were at about the same level overall.
Negative aspects
First day language evaluation was long and disorganized, and we did not have class at all the first day. Losing a day when you're there only 2 weeks seems problematic. I haven't seen this before. Also, classes were in afternoon the first week, rather than morning, which was a surprise. Finally, there is a real preponderance of younger students in this school, including a lot of older teenagers who aren't always very motivated.
Other comments
School seemed rather large and impersonal.
City/place
Nice is really one of the nicest large cities in France. The Promenade des Anglais and the sea are unforgettable. There are many very interesting small cities and places to visit nearby a short train ride away. Italy, too, is very close.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Teacher was good at taking questions and explaining facets of French culture.
Accommodation
Our hostess was very kind and friendly. She obviously enjoyed having older guests closer to her own age.

Alicia the teacher was a joy - I had fun while I learned! Eric in Administration at the HQ was very prompt with handling manners and courteous. He was a pleasure to deal with.
Negative aspects
Azurlingua - Adult Camp There was no proper cafeteria No proper orientation Azurlingua Kids Camp at Eucalyptus The welcome was very confusing The residential room appeared dirty and the bed had hairs when I dropped my son. The washroom was dirty. Some of the boys saw the cleaning lady sleeping during the day. Some of the activities stated on the website were not carried out in reality. The administration was supposed to get back to me about a paid activity but nobody did and I had to follow up.

Accommodation
Unfortunately, the ladylady I stayed with became more and more fussy towards the end of the week, or rather was very out of tune several times. I was told several times a day about all sorts of things, such as that I should turn off the kettle halfway through. People regularly went into my room without my permission or while I was on the phone (and my door was closed). Not only was my privacy disturbed. I was even shouted at why I was using the ceiling light and not the bedside light. It would cost them less. Apart from the fact that I always bought my own breakfast, as the offer was very modest and limited to the minimum (milk, butter, packed bread, jam - I didn't complain, but simply covered my claim for fresh fruit myself), I don't understand why, at 240€ rent/week, I'm not even allowed to use the ceiling light for 30min and have to put up with such a rude manner on top of that. I let people tell me a lot of things and I also like to get along with different characters, but this was no longer okay.

Positive aspects of school
Strong point the helpfulness of the management and staff, air conditioning, beautiful outdoor garden
Negative aspects
There was no course for C1 level but a B1.2 - B2, there was no written production and no homework to take home the activity done in class
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
There is currently no group course for C1
City/place
Nice and its people are a world to be known!
Quality of teaching / language progress
Good on the oral part (listening and speaking), more written activity and more effective structuring of the weekly hours (a central theme on which listening, writing, grammar, vocabulary converge) would be needed
Accommodation
Half board, the family was very hospitable and attentive.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Nice people, but not putting people in the right level
Negative aspects
So, let me provide some more detailed feedback here: 1) My kids were placed in the wrong class, most of all day they did not understand a word what was said and couldn’t answer any of the questions. Needless to say they didn’t learn much if anything. I am greatly disappointed by this as they tried to communicate that they only spoke English but were put down (teacher saying only French in French). 2) The reason the first day was perceived as a day long test was that they didn’t understand anything and hence concluded this was a test. 3) Other kids in their class were already speaking some French and could answer questions like “what is your favorite animal”, but not my kids. 4) This is extremely disappointing as I was at the school the Saturday before to talk to the main teacher / coordinator there to make sure they are on the list but also telling him they both don’t know any French and should be beginners. When they said they are in A1 class, we didn’t know there is a A0 class (that should have been the right one). 5) I would also recommend you communicate more with the caregiver (myself) as I could have helped you place my kids correctly. Now, I can’t even go back as 1) you made the placement faulty and you even ignored when they tried to tell the teacher, 2) my kids are very opposed to another class as they perceived it as boring (they didn’t understand anything). I usually wouldn’t do this, but this case warrant a refund as we didn’t get what was expected. Alternatively, I would like to ask for a few days in an A0 class to get them learn something. I hope this will help as you shouldn’t disappoint students this way michael

The initial assessment wasn't correct and I was put on the lower level than appropriate. Thankfully it became immediately apparent to both teachers in 'standard' and ' intensive' parts that it is a misplacement. I changed my level right the next day but it still costed me to spend one day not learning but paying.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The admin team was very efficient, especially when I needed to change to another host family.
Negative aspects
The school has placed me into a class with a level so much lower than my actual level, and the teaching methods and lessons were not effective at all. With the other language schools in France which I have attended, they have got better systems and more activities in class, more practices and the lessons were way more interactive and engaging. The coverage of grammar was also far from being enough.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
If you find that the level of your course is not suitable for you, please ask the school to change that for you IMMEDIATELY!
Other comments
Their Friday lunchtime 'food tasting session' during lunch hour was interesting, and was rather unique.
Accommodation
The first host family was terrible. Please don't send any more students to her place again!

Positive aspects of school
Blandine is a very good and dedicated teacher. Entrance test was thorough and comprehensive.
Negative aspects
Alternating morning and afternoon classes was not known in advance and we were not really prepared for afternoon classes because we always had something planned with friends in the afternoons. In this case it wasn't so bad because we only had one time in the afternoon. But it should have been communicated in advance.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The teachers are very knowledgeable regarding grammar and how to teach it.
Negative aspects
The rest are not so well organized. First of all, I made payments via bank transfer but staff did not contact me until after I asked about it. Secondly, the host family arrangement was complicated, I was given information on two different families at two different points. While the second family did not reply, the school did not contact me either. I eventually went to the first family, which worked out well on a personal level. Thirdly, there was only one after school activity on the first Friday afternoon (to Monaco), it was very well conducted. My second week there on Monday morning, a trip for Cannes was posted for the Friday but the posting was removed by Tuesday morning and changed to Villefrance-Sur-Mer, no one signed up for it. Maybe the advertisement was not done well? The three classrooms I had been into were all very cluttered with too many desks and chairs. They are poorly arranged, and in room 8, the whiteboard and the computer monitor were at two different ends of the room, very difficult to maneuver in-between. The eating area was also strangely put together. There was only one microwave on a wobbly table, which easily gets fluids spilled, and there was no kitchen facility. The washroom constantly lacks paper towel.

The hostess Isabelle B. offered an absolutely precious opportunity of conversation practice for me. Although she uses English every now and then, she is patient enough to wait for me to finish my sentences and sometimes corrects me (in French, of course). Her place is a little bit cluttered, therefore when I packed my luggage before leaving, I couldn't find a small rucksack of mine which I thought I had lost, but was later found by Isabelle after I had left.

Positive aspects of school
Very nice building with a beautiful inner court and garden. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good teaching methods.
Negative aspects
One week, the course seemed uneccessarily packed at 12 participants, while some other levels had only 8 or so. Perhaps a redistribution of participants between the levels would have helped here.
City/place
Great place, not too small not too large. Right in the centre of the Côté d'Azur, many other interesting places are easy to reach by train.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Lessons were good and staff were nice for the most part. Great excursions/activities.
Negative aspects
Poor organisation, animators often haphazard during excursions.
No possibility to do laundry in the building (there was a sign on the door to the laundry room saying "no students allowed"). I think there should be a possibility to hand in the dirty laundry and get it washed and ironed back, after all these are minors who should not be looking for a launderette in town.
Breakfast almost no choice (muesli, melon, expired yoghurts), lunch tasteless (missing spices, little choice). Fried sausage was partly raw.
Toilet cleaning not so great.

Nice is a wonderful city. There is a lot to see, the public transport is great, you can easily get to Monaco, Menton, Cannes, Antibes and within the city for 1.50€ per ride (or 1€ if you buy a 10-ride ticket). There are great museums, the opera has a very good programme and there is something to see on every corner or you can just sit on the beach or the promenade and enjoy the fantastic weather, which is there almost all year round.
The only downside: unfortunately, dog owners leave dog poop all over the pavements!!!

Quality of teaching / language progress
It was refreshing to swap between teachers a bit.
Accommodation
As always in holiday homes or hotel rooms, there were too few clothes hangers and hooks. Otherwise the place is excellent and it's great to be able to socialise with other students.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The green courtyard, where you can take a break or even some lessons.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
The barbecue evenings that the school often holds. Visit and experience the coast and beaches between Nice and Monaco/Menton by bus no. 100.
Other comments
The school went to great lengths and managed to ensure good classroom teaching despite the difficult conditions (coronavirus). The classrooms are rather small.
City/place
Nice is highly recommended. Offers many pedestrian zones with bars and restaurants to linger, the public transport works punctually and reliably, the beach is always inviting for a swim despite the pebbles, the city is clean and safe.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I did not judge the activities, because due to the Covid-19 one could or should only have fun with restrictions. In addition, the school had to make certain adjustments due to the protection concept, which also affected the lessons in some cases (wearing masks, connected online students)

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The two teachers I met were great, I didn't see anyone else.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I booked the wrong course. School is definitely great for young people, but it's difficult for older people, it's just about learning, otherwise there is nothing. You have to go to reception yourself and find out more. But if you don't even know what is possible, then you can't get information. E.g. public transport - I lost a day until I got my bearings. Etc. Sure, that's not the job of the school, but you get the feeling that they've never been to a strange city themselves

Azurlingua is a very friendly school. It is easy to interact with everyone. You are surely going to feel welcome and part of a group.
City/place
I had an amazing 2 months stay. Nice is the perfect town to relax, meet people and study French. I recommend staying here and visiting all "Cafe des langues" after class. Profitez-vous :) I felt the same and may do the same as Matisse: "Quand j'ai compris que chaque matin je reverrais cette lumière, je ne pouvais pas croire en mon bonheur. J'ai décidai de ne pas quitter Nice et j'y ai demeuré pratiquement toute mon existence."

I had an amazing 8 weeks. I surely recommend Azurlingua. I have no doubt that I will be back. Teachers are well trained and very professional. This is surely a great option when it comes to learning French.

Frankly, the school did not give me what I wanted, which was the chance to talk in a group of roughly my level of competence about matters of mutual interest. I found that I was learning grammar that I learned nearly 50 years ago.

I loved it, especially the teachers, the training consists of several parts: listening, reading, reports and conversation on various topics, at the same time it is organized as a game, so the time passes quickly.

The teachers were excellent and encouraging, they used engaging materials and focused mostly on conversation which I found very helpful and that matched my study goals.
Negative aspects
I participated in one outing in Nice, and I don't feel it was well organised, there has been some confusion and uncertainty about what was happening, however, I heard from the other students that the outings out of Nice were enjoyable and better organised.
Other comments
The school is well organised, the staff are very helpful and kind. I really enjoyed the course and classes.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Careful with the group where you are placed. In that sense, my experience was not so good. I learned more by staying with a host family.
Other comments
I was placed in a group that was below my level , it was ok to revise but not to learn anything. I did not ask for a change because the director advised on the first day that the level had to be demonstrated through the work in class; that's what I did and it was evident to everyone, teacher and classmates, but they did not change me to another group. At Alianza Francesa La Plata I was given a higher certificate.

I was very satisfied with the teaching process. I think most students were not interested to take part in social activities. Maybe you should describe to them the events in detail to encourage the students not to be afraid/ashamed of participating. Thank you for everything. You helped my French very much.
