Please, don't think to be on holiday, because you need to concentrate in order to learn as much as possible. How can you improve your French without going to lessons or without doing the homeworks?

The CAREL is very good, because is not only a language school, but it is also linked to the University of Poitiers. Some teachers have a lack of experience, but in general are very good and friendly.

Very international school, so be aware that this affects your classroom learning - various accents and levels of study contributes for an interesting learning environment. Furthermore the school is very well organized and available in your regards. Majority of students in the intensive summer course were university aged, and activities are geared more for this group age, but good interaction with everyone even if you are older and willing to be social. I highly recommend CAREL.

I was surprised how friendly and caring everyone was. It was also really great to see that not all French people are concentrating on the French language, but are open-minded for the ones that have problems with foreign languages. We all know that France is a little bit selfish considering this fact.
Other comments
can't speak for everyone, but I just loved my teacher, because she always had a great bond with the whole class and that motivates a lot. I haven't regret this course for one single hour.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
If your written level is better than the oral one, you better fail on the written test on purpose since there's no oral test. If you don't do it like this, you're gonna be placed in a wrong class, so you'll need to ask to be moved...
Other comments
It is essential to conduct an oral test. I've been already studying French for two years and I was placed in the highest level! I moved to another course, but it was not enough. I really think teachers are not sufficiently engaged in framing the students at their correct level.

experienced teachers, mediateques (you can see french movies with sub titles, there are many work books or audio text which you can use free of charge). In this school you can have a contact not only with foreign students who learn French but also French students who learn English, Spanish and German. It's something very unique of this school. You have many chance to speak in French with ordinary French people. (not only teachers or somebody who works in the shops)
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Royan is a very small town, so it's a bit boring town but for those who want to improve his capacity of French, it's one of the best locations. You must not miss the party at Pub Astoria on the first Tuesday.
Other comments
In the beginning, I chose 4 weeks. But I found this school being so good that I extended my cours. There was another Spanish girl who did the same extention. Information for Japanese student: There were not many Japanese student in this school when I was here. (Only 4 students) If you look for a school where there are not too many japanese students, it might be a very good choice. There is a chance to introduce our culture to other students, so it is very nice idea to bring something (photobook, food) to show.

The course was well organized, and the teachers good. The only hesitation I have about giving top marks, was the teachers direct unwillingness to take questions in any other language than French. That policy is, in my opinion, old-fashioned, and suits only students with a rather extensive vocabulary in French. At my level, and that of my fellow students, explanations and comparisons in English or any other language, is essential to lower the "burden" of learning a foreign language. I know this is a debate between two learning philosophies, but I'd hoped that CAREL belonged to a more modern school on this matter. Everything else was top value, both technical equipment and learning facilities.
