Positive aspects of school
I loved the people, it was like a small family and made my stay so much more fun. Since I had an intensive course in a very small class, the lessons where very practical and fun. I also loved the activities offered almost every day!!
Negative aspects
Nothing, I wish I would’ve stayed longer
City/place
As a traveller, you always have to be mindful and but if you follow basic rules such as not going out at night by yourself in certain areas and keep your phone in your purse, you are good to go. Also, this applies to every place in Central/South America

Positive aspects of school
The placement and lessons were really well organised. We had a lot of fun and learnt a lot. Everyone was always friendly. Our teacher Claudia was really wonderful!
Negative aspects
As absolute beginners, many of the leisure activities on offer didn't make sense. It was also sometimes difficult to understand what exactly was on offer. Less than half of the activities were free of charge.

A language course at this school!
Other comments
It was one of the best experiences in Santiago for us! We are very happy to have ended up there! Thank you for arranging it and thank you to the school!!!
City/place
Santiago is very relaxed for such a large metropolis and is well worth a visit.

Positive aspects of school
It was a wonderful school :-)
The atmosphere was quite extraordinary. The administrator and all the teachers were very friendly, efficient and professional - and they all appeared to be friends between them. It seemed like we were all one happy family. Also, the afternoon and night activities (city walk, salsa lesson, making pisco sour, conversation class) were great. Also, the teaching material was good. I will probably go there again.
Negative aspects
I cannot think of any.
Other comments
A very good school to be highly recommended!
City/place
I wouldn't know about shopping. Santiago is definitely a place to visit and in November - December the air was quite pure.
Quality of teaching / language progress
We had two teachers, which was exceptional but worked well. The group was 3 to 4 students, which was a good size. On our course everybody spoke almost exclusively Spanish, which, according to my observations, is rare.
Accommodation
I stayed in a room with a private bath in an apartment that was owned by an elderly but very youthful and energetic lady. On the top of the building there was a small swimming pool, a sun deck and great views. Also the doormen downstairs were all very nice and polite. The food was good, with lots of fresh fruit.

Positive aspects of school
The teachers, the location, the size of the school, the students and the friendly atmosphere.
Negative aspects
I think the program was not as structured and demanding as I would have liked. We spent too much time on the same few grammar notions. Also, I thought there would be an evaluation test upon arriving but I was automatically put into a beginner’s class. I had to show what I had done the previous week in another school to be reassigned to a stronger class. Even then, I did not learn much during the week (academically speaking) but I liked the teachers, the group and the discussions so much that I appreciated the experience and really enjoyed my week at Bellavista.
Other comments
A small school with much charm and atmosphere, well located and friendly.
City/place
A large, modern city with many beautiful buildings. I liked it but it was not for me « love at first sight » as Buenos Aires was.
Accommodation
Finally I did not stay in the planned homestay, as planned, but rented an apartment very close to the school. The above ratings apply to the apartment.

Positive aspects of school
Small classes, committed teachers, own material (booklet with current grammar and vocabulary), regular homework, systematic structure, extra conversation on Monday, a different activity every afternoon, interesting excursions at the weekend, very individual farewells in class, bank holidays were made up for - perfect for me, I would choose the school again.
Negative aspects
The percentage of Germans is very high, but it didn't bother me. That is not a fault of the school. Besides, there were enough other participants to talk to.
City/place
Very lively, the bank holiday is a special highlight, impressive how the Chileans celebrate, good public transport, many excursion possibilities, caution is advised, do not wear important personal things visibly.
Accommodation
Very warm relationship, good food, room with desk, view of the local mountain. Laundry was done at no extra cost, was invited to family reunion on National Day, with increase in my knowledge good conversation - also perfect for me.

I found it excellent.
City/place
There’s lots to do and go to. The public transport system is outstanding, and cheap. It’s easy to find your way around as the streets are well signposted, and the place is built on a rectangular grid. Google maps helps too!

Bellavista School was fantastic! I learned a lot in Spanish, and I had many opportunities to talk with the teachers and students at the school. The school conducts weekly tours of different neighborhoods in Santiago. I liked it a lot!
Negative aspects
I would like daily homework to be written on the board in addition to being given verbally.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Sign up for the extra activities outside of school! It’s an easy way to tour the city and make new friends.
City/place
There’s so much to see and do! It’s very easy to get around on the metro or walk to places close by.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The regular course is two 90 minute classes from 10-11:30 and 12-1:30. One on one classes are either before and/or after those times.

My hostess was wonderful! I had my own private room and bathroom. She is an excellent cook too!

Private lessons really helped improve my Spanish and definitely worth doing as they solidify what you do in the lessons! Also brilliant as my teacher (Jenny) was super relaxed with what time I wanted the class and made me really enjoy learning Spanish, especially as we were able to talk about relevant issues and interesting topics which made it all the more exciting to learn.
Other comments
All the teachers were super friendly and very funny (sometimes even a bit crazy which I loved) and the students were really nice, plenty of students meeting up out of school house to eat or do activities , a very sociable school

A huge problem was that none of the teachers spoke any English. Unfortunately, I didn't even speak a word of Spanish, so it actually was impossible to communicate or to convey the language to me. Especially since I was promised that the teachers would speak English.
Certainly a good opportunity for more advanced students to improve. For me it was a bit of a waste of money ...

Classes and teachers were a lot of fun! Focused on grammar, but because of the group size (four people) and level (intermediate) we also got to practise talking quite a lot and could do everything in Spanish, without translating.
I think one of the students was frustrated though (or I'd be if I were him) because he had been at the school for several weeks already and studied at the same level the same material already once. This affected the others too, to some extent at least, there was pressure to advance and not perhaps go so deep into things that were unclear.
The number of activities was a really nice bonus!

They do a great job of gauging your skills and matching you with a curriculum that works for you. It's obvious they take a personal interest your effort to learn Spanish to make sure you get the most out of your classes. I did a couple weeks of group courses and took a few private lessons as well. I highly recommend the private lessons--they are worth the additional expense because you get more practice and can focus on the things you need to improve most.

The teachers were really friendly and very knowledgeable. I felt like I learnt a lot in a very short time. The classes were relaxed and fun and the small number of students meant that you felt comfortable participating in class and that you got enough individual attention.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
It's good to know the very basics before commencing classes (even if you are starting in the most basic class) such as numbers, as there is a little bit of assumed knowledge and/or some things not covered in the classes (nor should they be as I think that would be a waste of time)
Other comments
Really nice place to learn Spanish, the environment and staff were wonderful. I really enjoyed my time here, however I did think the price of private lessons was a bit too expensive (and unfortunately this prohibited me from taking these, although I would have liked to).

Positive aspects of school
The class size was perfect. The teachers were wonderful and made us feel comfortable speaking and making errors in Spanish. Having a little party for a departing student on the last day was a nice touch.
Other comments
I recommend the school. I did not participate in the free extra activities, but I am sure that would've helped my language even more.

I would have liked more homework. I understand that you are leaving time for people to explore the city but I think people can devote more than 10 minutes a night to improving their Spanish if they have chosen to take Spanish classes in the first place.

I love Santiago a lot, so I came already back again. The quality of the school is very good, you learn a lot, and you can practice also in the afternoon, they have loads of things going on for free like extra grammar lessons, excursions etc. For me the best school in South America, I also was in schools in Peru and Argentina, but Bellavista hits the top!
