Insider tips about what future students should not miss
There's a great little theatre in Xania behind the city hall where I saw a play, it is a great way to listen to Greek, depending on students' level. Nea Chora beach was beautiful, sandy and clean, lined with quiet tavernas.

Very nice people who try to do their best. Crete is has a very raw wonderful beauty that I discovered by renting a motorcycle but watch out Greek drivers have strange habits of forcing you into the shoulder and passing anywhere. Once on the small mountain roads and trails it is wonderful.

Only 7 students started the same week as me, all with different knowledge of Greek, so it was impossible to make sensible classes of different levels, and we ended up in badly-matched groups. When we arrived on the first day, the school seemed vaguely surprised to see us, although several of us had registered a month in advance. My teacher was a very nice person, but didn't seem to have much experience in teaching Greek to adults, or much time to spare in preparing for each lesson.
