Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Everyone was always very kind and helpful. It was like a family atmosphere. Teachers, staff and the owner of the school included. I felt supported from the moment I arrived, and I was there for 12 weeks from Oct-Dec 2023.
Negative aspects
Not a lot of resources outside the classes. Some shelves of DVDs and books to borrow in a couple classrooms, but that's about it. Also, if you're not at the level of one of the currently ongoing classes, your only option is private lessons, which cut your hours in half. It's a very small school, so there are often only a handful of classes, and they're mostly at the beginner/low-intermediate level, so for advanced learners you'll likely be in private lessons at half the hours like I was.
Other comments
Great, family-like atmosphere
City/place
Tours was perfect as a city to live and study in. It's a medium-sized, student city so is quite lively with lots of activities available. From live shows to shopping to movie theatres, you name it. There's always something to do, and the public transport was easy to use to get around, especially with the tram line. The people were friendly, and the rivers were beautiful to walk along.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Perfect amount of time to really immerse in the culture
Accommodation
I had a bit of a unique situation with another student on arrival. There weren't any families available for the full 12 weeks we signed up for, so we were placed together with one family for the first two weeks, and then moved to others (separated) for the rest of the time. The first family was perfect, always there for us if we needed them; they showed us areas of the city and region, explaining French culture and exposing us to lots of different foods. Very much like a family. The second family was more hands-off, giving me a room on arrival, and then I only saw them at dinner every day. Breakfast was self-serve. I ended up changing families as I needed more contact that I had become used to with the first one. The school was very understanding and worked hard to quickly find me another family - one that had consistently high ratings from students - and the one they found was perfect. I already had a high level of French (B2/C1 level), so we chatted a lot at dinners and throughout the day if I was home in the afternoon. It was a very positive experience with them. Bit of a journey with the host families, but the school always worked very quickly to remedy any issue I had.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Very tight-knit community, the students actually want to learn, and the teachers are fun.
Negative aspects
The quantity of material used for teaching is not a lot, and the classes are basically just talking about everyday topics, so one learns only everyday words.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
If ask for an excursion destination, they will take you there.
Other comments
The vast majority of the students are Japanese. Good occasion to practice that language also.
City/place
It is considerably lacking in anything to do. The local pastime for both locals and tourists is alcohol consumption, so having fun without drinking is difficult.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The classes are mixed a bit. C1 with B2, B2 with B1

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Castles. Canoe trip!, Montbauzan guided tour, Guinguettes (= French beergardens).
City/place
Lots of restaurants for tourists, lots of students, lots of (arrogant) French people who go out in groups and do not like to talk to strangers (like almost everywhere else), if you look for something posh for older people not much on offer. Nice river, but due to the heat it didn't have much water. Nice forest area around Indre, other than that unremarkable
Quality of teaching / language progress
Perfect :)
Accommodation
Everything perfect, just insufficient lighting in the student's room, so studying during the night hours to prepare for DELF difficult.

I had individual lessons with the director Yannik Durand himself. The lessons were top, with many interesting topics and conversations.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
I can recommend an organised tour of the castles. I booked it at the tourist office just opposite the train station in Tours.
Other comments
Small, manageable, fine - located right on the city's beautiful main square.
City/place
Tours is a beautiful city, with an equally beautiful main square that invites you to linger and find tranquillity. In the evening, however, it is very lively. By the way, the most understandable, pure French is spoken in the Tours region - the right place for a language course.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Small school, small courses. Home stay was ideal: warm and friendly family. It was also close to the train station so we could take easy day trips.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Chenonceaux and Chambord Chateaux are really worth a visit.
Other comments
The only down side was that the numerous female Asian students often had strong accents and spoke very quietly and timidly, if at all.
City/place
Tours is a nice sized city, not too big, not too small. Easy to get around by foot.
Accommodation
Homestay was one of the best I've had. Very cordial with my wife and me.

Positive aspects of school
I liked the fact that both Caroline and Yannick were totally responsive to every question and went out of their way to research topics of interest to me.
City/place
Tours is a little bigger and busier than I expected, but many beautiful old buildings and lovely places to sit and have a drink or a coffee. Don't miss the Botanic Gardens!
Quality of teaching / language progress
My one on one class was perfect for me since my level of expertise is very uneven due to the fact that I have studied it on my own. Both teachers were excellent and very knowledgeable about the language, as well as flexible with regard to meeting times and places. I couldn't have asked for a better experience! I will definitely recommend this school to friends and hope to be back in the future myself.

The building is a lovely old rickety place in an excellent location. The constraints imposed by the building mean that more usual modern facilities are not easy to provide. I personally would not want it any other way, but I can imagine some students might find it unusual. The staff went a very long way to tailor our course to our needs - first class. They were without exception charming, helpful and focused. We loved it. There was one lack of communication that spoiled an otherwise perfect time: the details of the trip arranged for the final afternoon were not revealed to us until the day before, and we had already visited the places the trip was planned for. A pity, but nothing much to worry about.

I chose Tours Langues particularly because it is located in a city where English is not commonly utilized.
