Cambridge Young Learners of English (YLE) (6 to 12 years old)

- Optional lunch (Mon-Sat): USD 102.The CAMBRIDGE TLE Program is a mixed-level course that combines communicative-focused English lessons held on the school campus with optional integrated daily fun activities. Students learn
about the island home’s unique culture, improve their English and make new friends during their stay in Hawaii.
Upon arrival, if this option is requested, teens are welcomed into the home of one of the host families and made to feel part of their family during their stay. Scheduled English lessons begin at 13:20 and end at 17:00, Monday through Friday, except holidays. In the mornings, students can join one of the exciting activities they have planned for them whether it is spending a day at the beach, learning the hula, hiking Diamond Head, or sailing on a Catamaran! Saturdays normally consist of a day-long activity such as a tour around the island or spending a day at a water theme park. In the English Camp in Hawaii, at Bright Beginnings, the curriculum uses the National Geographic ESL program as a baseline structure for the classes. The curriculum encourages self-expression, global citizenship, and active participation in the classroom through cross-curricular topics and stories from National Geographic Explorers. Lessons are designed to inspire global citizens and promote 21st century skills through readings, videos, audio recordings and activities. Through authentic, real-world content, big ideas and inspiring stories from National Geographic, the curriculum challenges students to not only understand their world but also to engage with it – all while learning English. Students will be exposed to different cultures, places, global customs and traditions. Students will take an assessment test on the first day, or before they arrive, and will be placed at the appropriate level.
