Lessons will take place in the Collège Stella Maris in Anglet, located about 25 minutes by bus from Biarritz city centre. The college is set in beautiful grounds surrounded by pine trees and is the perfect setting for a summer camp. Please note that complete beginners and advanced students are not catered for in this programme. Teachers are all native speakers, university graduates and use the communicative approach, meaning that the lessons include all aspects of the language (speaking, reading, listening and writing) but the focus is on oral communication. Teachers encourage the students to interact as much as possible and actively use what they learn in class. 8 surf lessons of 45 minutes each per week, taught in blocks of 1.5 hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The times will vary according to the tides. Lessons are adapted to the needs and levels of the participants, and are taught by the university-qualified instructors of our partner surf school Hastea-Biarritz, in groups of 8 maximum. Surf lessons will take place in the famous Côte des Basques beach (5 minutes walking distance from Biarritz city centre), which offers a wide range of waves for all levels. The school may sometimes take the students to other beaches if the weather requires it (in which case transport will be included). All material is provided by the surf school (wetsuits and boards). Daily activities will take place before or after the surf lessons, depending on the tides. There will be sports (football match, beach volley contest etc…) and social activities (quiz, arts & crafts, photo contest etc…) to encourage students to practice French together. There will also be one half-day excursion on Wednesday afternoon, either in Bayonne or St Jean de Luz. Please note that the activity programme will be the same in weeks 1 and 3, as well as in weeks 2 and 4. However even though the activities will be repeated, they will never really be the same as it’s the students who make them different every time, so students are welcome to stay 3 or even 4 weeks if they wish! There will be a group leader to run the afternoon activity programme and supervise the teens. Accommodation: homestay (twin room, full board). Airport transfer (both ways): included.
