How we create the points regarding what we like/dislike about a school

Neighbourhood of School: Malaga is known for its beautiful beaches and soaring summer temperatures making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Cervantes Escuela Internacional is a Spanish language school in the neighborhood of Pedregalejo, 30 minutes by public transportation from the hustle and bustle of Malaga’s city centre. This quaint fishing village moves at a slower pace than the lively streets of Malaga and is the perfect location to enjoy the tranquility of Spanish life, whilst still being very accessible to the busy city. Although it has kept most of its charm, there is still plenty to do here and the area is known for its little beach coves.

School location: Cervantes Escuela Internacional is located on the main road through the village, with plenty of public transport options to explore along the coast. The school is one road back from the seafront where there are a vast selection of eateries, bars and a good pick of the best beach spot for a day of sunbathing.

Cultural aspects: There is much more to Malaga than just the beaches, with plenty of cultural things to sink your teeth into on a cloudy day. With 37 museums, mainly located around the historical centre, there is plenty to learn and see with a particular mention to the Picasso Museum and Centre Pompidou Málaga, both well worth a visit. The historical centre is just 40 minutes by bus from Cervantes Escuela Internacional and whilst winding through the streets students can also visit the Cathedral, the Alcazaba fortress palace and the Roman Theatre. Malaga has a very popular nightlife and a wide selection of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. There is never a dull moment in this city!
  • The language school Cervantes Escuela Internacional was founded in Malaga, Spain in 1986.

Cervantes Escuela Internacional

“Since 1986, the year I founded Cervantes Escuela Internacional, I have lived with emotion as my sector, the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language, has been changing by leaps and bounds. I have seen how a small project full of enthusiasm and commitment has grown to become what it is today: a leading school in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. During these almost 35 years we have had students from all over of the world and with a very heterogeneous profile. This has given us knowledge and experience, two fundamental pillars in any company. The classrooms of our school have allowed us to travel to all the countries of the world without moving from them, we have met their people, their idiosyncrasy and their culture, what more could you ask for? At Cervantes Escuela Internacional, we are concerned not only that the student learns our language and our culture, but also that they feel part of Cervantes EI. So there is nothing that brings us more happiness than a student speaks of us with affection and even repeats his experience at our school. All these years dedicated to spreading the language of Cervantes have made me, without a doubt, grow not only professionally but also, and most importantly, as a person. Thanks to all the students who have passed through our classrooms filling them with life and culture. ”

Student opinions about Cervantes Escuela Internacional, Malaga

Liked
Very friendly environment and amazing teachers! Quality of this school is great! I was really satisfied with it and love to recommend it to all students. Also the location at Palo is perfect (beautiful beaches and great connection to the centre by public transport). After school activities and weekends trips were also very nice. I would love to study here again.

I liked most the focus on learning how to practice verbal communication using the immediate context of Malaga and people’s lives and needs while living in the city. I liked the ability to go more in depth where necessary, and not just stopping at the book.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss It may not be what most people would want, but would highly suggest spending time alone away from foreigners in the school or your partner and get involved in the city, having to explore and get things done. Also I highly suggest watching Netflix with Spanish subtitles and Spanish audio on as much as possible, while continuing to supplement your own independent learning through an online course lime duolingo or babbel.

Other comments It is a lovely highly professional school and administration that I would highly recommend. The main suggestion I have is to offer opportunities for greater immersion with local Spanish people for those more ambitious to learn faster. I know there is ‘home-stay’, but as an adult it felt too restrictive for me who likes his own independence. Instead, I would be looking for activities, sports, gym classes, recreations to join up where common interests could be focused with Spanish as a default language. There is a temptation at a language school to socialize primarily with other students where English takes over. I had to distance myself from the other students and felt badly as they were a really lovely group and naturally, it meant there were some lonely times searching out ways to connect with local population/life. However, I noticeably improved much faster than the majority of students in the two weeks.

Quality of teaching / language progress: The basic course was good but a little bit boring at first- because of the book: hundreds of simple words I could learn at home. But the teacher made it better. And the second week was more interesting and demanding, too- in a good way. Some more weeks would have been a good choice!

I felt that after 1 week of intensive teaching, I could not express myself enough in Spanish. There was a lot of listening in Spanish in the 1st but little speaking.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Unfortunately, I couldn't improve my Spanish very much during the 2 weeks and since the course was relatively expensive and you had to pay extra for the excursions, which were often a bit expensive, I think that the price performance is not really given. The furnishings were not very comfortable as there was only one chair with a fold-away bed. The location, however, is great, there is a direct bus connection and the beach in front of the door.

Other comments I was VERY dissapointed with the host family. Five students in one house seriously diminished the "family" environment. Just one small bathroom shared between the 5 students! Food quality & quantity was poor. I moved out to a shared a villa with other students which was MUCH better & I would recommend it.
