Location: Colegio de España is a Spanish language school that fits in with the theme of the city, with over 45 years of experience teaching the Spanish language, its history speaks for itself as a well-established language school. Furthermore, you will find the school nested in a 17th Century historical building just 2 minutes from the main Plaza Mayor, and 6 minutes from the Cathedral, so you can fully digest the wonders that Salamanca has to offer. The city has some traditional dishes, so come and find out what a hornazo or farnato tastes like.

School facilities: Whilst the shell of the school is a beautiful old traditional building inside is a different story with excellent facilities including a computer room, library, movie room, rooftop terrace, terrace, lounge and garden.

Course information: All the staff at Colegio de España are highly trained with degrees in Linguistics and Humanities and interests in other fields creating a wonderful selection of courses. Some of these courses include the standard general language courses, Spanish and business, exam preparation classes, family and junior programmes as well as a programme for seniors. It's location is amazing. It's less than one minute to Plaza Mayor. Everyone is nice and helpful. The teachers are the best especially Carmen. Everything was fantastic and the best thing is the accent and the pronunciation. Not only in the school but, in the city.

Other comments 1. When I asked for more information and pictures of the optional accommodations the secretary sent me a link to a fancy and very expensive hotel instead. They didn't make much effort to help me find accommodation and in the end I booked through AIRBNB and not with the help of the school. 2. The school offers only notebooks with exercises and no other materials what-so-ever, no books, no internet site to practice or any other up-to-date method of teaching. When you study rules and don't have printed materials it is very problematic.

I would not recommend this home stay accommodation. The facilities were antiquated and not in the best condition. The bed was uncomfortable. The room was in a noisy location, making it very difficult to sleep at night. And the meals were not at all to my liking. Also, I had some stomach distress after meals. I think cooked food was left at room temperature too long.

Other comments i stayed in salamanca for 4 weeks. the city is really beautiful, there are many young people and the nightlife is divertising. it´s also great for learning spanish, because it´s a real pure castellano. unfortunately the weather wasn´t very good in march, in contrary of what i expected in spain. i also missed more free time activities (by the colegio de espana) to get to know other people, the city and the whole region.

Other comments The college and staff were really nice. The teaching was very good. I had two reservations about the set up. First, on the first day, another student and I were kept waiting for 30 minutes in a classroom on our own and did not know what was going on. We weren't given a proper learning needs assessment. Secondly, there was no activity programme operating. We were just given the option of a bring and share meal with the other students.

Questions and answers about Colegio de España

  • Homestay is the option that I recommend for a true, full-on immersion experience and if you include either full or half board, then you also get to keep practicing around the dinner table, learning much more about the culture and traditions than you would otherwise. This is indeed also recommended for mature students.

  • Collection is also possible on other days by prior arrangement.
    Martin Zakostelecky, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 24, 2023

    Martin Zakostelecky, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 24, 2023
  • All meals are included, also afternoon activities are included (except for the one-day trip to La Alberca, which is optional). It is hard to say how much the student needs weekly, mainly that would be if she wants to have a drink during breaks or the afternoons or go shopping.

Sophie L'Enfant, Administration from Colegio de España - Apr 13, 2023
    • We recommend students come with an "open mind". By this, I mean that life and culture in Spain can be different from what they are used to.
