  • Lessons are 45 minutes long, which is shorter than in other schools.
How we create the points regarding what we like/dislike about a school

Honolulu English School is in Waikiki, 30 minutes by public transport from Honolulu city centre, on the third biggest island in Hawaii. The school is a short walk to Waikiki beach and the area is spilling over with shops, restaurants and bars. There are good transport connections to local attractions including Diamond Head, the dormant volcano, and the Hanauma Beach.

The word “aloha” is a greeting term in Hawaii, but the spirit behind it is far more than a simple word. The term transmits a mutual respect and extends a warmth and sincerity between the two people and this is very much present in the ambiance at Honolulu English School. There is a strong emphasis on English only and the school is proud to say that for the majority of the adult courses there is less than 50% mix of the same nationality. Honolulu English School nests in a tall modern building with its bright classrooms overlooking the ocean and mountains. Other facilities available are a large lounge, a computer area, and high speed Wi-Fi throughout - plus a drinks counter.

There is a wide variety of daily activities organised at the school for students to be able to mix with their peers and practise English in a safe environment. There is a broad variety and intensity of courses available, and it is possible to specialise in different areas such as business, conversation, Cambridge Exams, TOEFL Exam and TOEIC exam. There are day programmes designed for junior students, and these are divided into two age categories; Teen STEP for those aged 13 to 16 years and kids STEP for 6 to 12 year olds. These programmes include daily group trips, activities, course material and lunch. At Honolulu English School you can combine a Junior Programme or an IEP programme with weekly lessons mixed with a popular Hawaiian activity including surfing, hula, playing the Ukulele, or stand-up paddle.
  • The language school Honolulu English School was founded in Honolulu, USA in 1984.

Student opinions about Honolulu English School, Honolulu

Liked
Practically everything. The teachers were very prepared, excellent teaching methods and overall the internal organization unquestionably perfect for my taste. A little bit less than the organization for newcomers, because they were introduced in classes already formed (which is fine), but coming during the week of the final examination of the Term (so called) it's not appropriate because you find yourself having to take an examination for which you are not ready and then it happened to me that the following week was a little bit more relaxed.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss It's better to ask when the Term will start and end , and if you begin after that it has been started it's ok, but it's better you don't start during its last week ... it's really much better the following one.

Rating: 5/5.0

Other comments My accommodation was great. I stayed in an 8-person female dorm room in Waikiki Beachside Hostel. At first I thought that would be crowded but later I was happy to choose that. Hostel was great and clean, you have a kitchen and bathroom in the room and you share it with at most 7 other people. It was a great opportunity to meet more people and practice English. And also it was a great walk by the beach from hostel to the school everyday. I saw lots of rainbows :)
