Student opinions about LSI - Language Studies International, Paris

Liked
Even though there were 10 students in my class, my teacher controlled the class very well and we could participated in a lesson very actively. A coordinator could help me well during my stay. As the school is located in a business district, you can enjoy shopping and sightseeing. You also felt to be a "Pariseienne".
Insider tips about what future students should not miss I recommend you to go over the conjugation of verbs before taking a level check test.

I like how the teacher helped me to speak using French, although i only knew several words. Teacher (Marice) was enthusiastic about her teaching. I loved the class size also. It was not big so there was enough time to ask questions and enought time for each student to practice speaking French.

Dedicated and committed hardworking teachers who were interested in teaching and having us learn. Serious attitude of school with weekly Monday morning tests to evaluate the progress in terms of materials previously covered in class. Punctuality and attendance were emphasized.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss There were only 2 other Americans besides myself in the 4 weeks I attended. The first class had 8 students. The second class for two weeks was a combination of two different classes by the school and had 16 students. It was way to large and there were very different levels among the individual students. All but one in this very large class were female. In the fourth week, the class had about 10-12 students in it - all female. Most students were young college age 20-somethings. A few of us were in our 40s-50s-60s. Many of the young female students appeared to be from wealthy and privileged backgrounds and circumstances.

Other comments It's a very international school and they are serious about their mission of teaching French to foreigners and getting their students ready to take the required national exams which the French government requires for foreigners who want to work in France. I also took private lessons in afternoon which helped me greatly in terms of conversation.

Excellent location. Classes started right on time. I was placed in the right level, with some students above me, and some below me, but all of us at more or less the same level. Very friendly school, very easy to talk with Daniel if there were any issues.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss Join the Tuesday afternoon excursions with other classmates. A good way to meet people and make friends. The Centre Pompidou is right next door and has a fantastic library (closed Tuesday), where you can study. It's open until 11 p.m. Bring a notebook and different coloured pens, also pencils. There are little cafés very near the school, so getting a snack during the morning break is easy.

Quality of teaching / language progress: The course was excellent; my teacher Léa is wonderful. She is a very talented and creative teacher, also fun and funny. All of us enjoyed her teaching style and ability to help us learn very much. Every Monday, new students would join the class, and the class seemed to jump to a higher level each week. Some of us wanted to slow it down to be able to absorb what we'd just learned. However, by Wednesday, the class was generally able to gel and work together on the more complex vocabulary and grammatical forms.
Other comments The chairs don't provide much space on the tiny attached desk. Would prefer a real desk. The class level got increasingly more difficult each Monday when new students joined. I started at level A1, and the class jumped to level A2 after just two weeks. I could handle the grammar alright, but I needed more intensive work on very basic level French verbs, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Overall a good assessment of the teaching.I would have liked more classroom conversations and interactive lessons ( this Ivan does a lot). Also they were working , to learn vocabulary, on inappropriate topics such as "sustainable economy and pollution. I would have preferred to work on topics like how to live in France, in Paris. Basically I know how to say depopulation and diversification but I don "t know how to say fork and knife....

Other comments I booked the intensive 30hr course and I was at A2 level. Friendly atmosphere, attentive administrator and teachers. Participation in school life allowed me to feel comfortable and not alone in the city. You could get an answer to any question at school.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss Intensive course differs from the common not with the program, but with the amount of hours. It seems for me that it's better to take the common course - you learn the same, but you're less tired and can see the city better. If you've suddenly decided to cook your own meals, keep in mind that it's very difficult to find some cereals, except rice in Paris ;)

Other comments The first assessment was almost impossible. I feel it would be better to give a slightly more accessible assessment and so at least give students a chance to respond to questions and show what they do know. Excellent teachers but it might have benefited students if there had been more chance to have more 'extensive' one-to-one conversations in class with the teacher. Students might need encouragement in the public domain but that sort of practice is invaluable and because there were sometimes 15 people in the class it might only be a couple of times a week when the teacher could possibly ask a student about their time the previous evening or what they intend that evening or next day etc.

As the room was too small for our group, the school tried twice to move the lessons to a room in another district. I wouldn't have liked that because it would have meant a longer commute. I also chose this school because of its location.

Questions and answers about LSI - Language Studies International

  • This course includes 20 French lessons in the mornings with 3 art workshops per week. Students will have an introduction to French History of Art in the afternoons (2:00 pm - 5:00pm). This programme will be given by one of the teachers who has a PHD in History of Art. It includes one hour theoretical introduction to one subject of History of Art followed by the visit of one exhibition around the subject that was presented during the class. The aim of this course is to combine French with the rich art heritage culture of the country and let students discover the basis of French History of Art. The students will be taken to the most famous Parisian Museums such as The Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Musée de l’Orangerie, Grand Palais, Musée Rodin, etc.

  • The LSI school offers a course called "Afternoon 10" which consists of 10 lessons/week from 13:40 to 15:20, in which students can choose between general French, conversation classes or exam preparation.

    Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 16, 2023
  • We apply an age restriction of at least 16 years. I'm afraid your son is too young to attend our school.
Our teachers are excellently qualified to teach adults, but unfortunately not children. We cannot give a 12-year-old the same curriculum as an adult.
There are different methods and tools used for younger learners and this is a very different pedagogical methodology.
Daniel, from LSI Paris - Mar 23, 2023

FAQ about LSI - Language Studies International,

  • The school will match your request to a suitable host family, so it is important that you mention in the comment field of your booking if you have any specific requests for the family. All the hosts are monitored by the school, so you can be sure that they will be welcoming and everything will be clean. When you stay with French hosts you get to sample the local culture and customs, and they can often offer you advice on what to do in the local area. It is a distinct advantage to be able to practice the language in the evenings, around the dinner table if you book half board (breakfast and dinner).
Louise Granath, from LSI - Language Studies International - Sep 03, 2021
  • "Partial half board" means that dinner is not included on Friday & Saturday as the host families may be away in the evening. Then lunch is included. During the weekdays it is usually breakfast and dinner.
    Sabine Krafack, from LanguageCourse.net - Mar 02, 2022
  • Please note that the most advanced level we have in group is B2. For C1 & C2 levels we only can provide private lessons but not in a group.
    Sabine Krafack, from LanguageCourse.net - Aug 04, 2022
  • The Intensive 24 is eligible to apply for a student visa since the student must follow at least 20 hours per week which is the number of hours of this course.
Daniel Quintero, from LSI Paris - Sep 01, 2022
  • The minimum required age for the adult courses is 16 years at LSI. The general 20 course is a good choice. They will take a placement test and they will be placed with the right group according to their level. They'll study all aspects of the language: speaking, grammar, writing, reading. However, if they want to progress faster I’d advise them to consider the Intensive 24 or Intensive 30 course. If students book the intensive 24 and 30 they will study the same lessons as for the General 20 course and they will choose electives to complement their course.

Daniel Quintero, Admissions Officer from LSI, Paris - Dec 16, 2022
  • Most of the families that the school works with are located approximately 20-27 minutes by public transport from the school. This information is approximate and is reported by our former students. You will receive details of your host family 1 week before the departure date.
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 15, 2023
  • LSI Paris does not offer a senior course. I can recommend a standard French course (mixed age class) which is scheduled from Monday to Friday. LSI Paris will organize 2 activities per week. Every Monday there will be a French movies club with French subtitles displayed for free at the school after the afternoon lessons. Every Wednesday there will be a cultural activity organized outside of the school by one of the teachers. Other activities are organized by one of their partners, the International Youth Club of Paris. These activities are optional and students are welcome to join them whenever they want
Daniel , Admissions Officer from LSI Paris - Mar 24, 2023
  • The remaining amount for the course will have to be paid once you receive the invoice of the school, and no later than 14 days before the course starts.
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 31, 2023
  • Cancellation after the course starts is possible, but the course fee will not be refunded.
Louise Granath, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 14, 2024
  • Our class size is maximum 16 students per class. In average the class size is 12/14 students per class. During summer it’s not unlikely to have groups for up to 16 students.
