What our students said about Porto

Gorgeous! I found the city safe, welcoming and cosy. Very beautiful with colourful sights and a rich cultural life. I was also pleased with the gastronomic abundance - there are numerous cafes and restaurants in the city where you can try any cuisine of the world. I would especially like to emphasise the friendliness and friendliness of Porto's inhabitants towards the guests of their city.

5.0Lidiia Russia

A very recommendable city. The only thing is that I would no longer travel there in November, as I arrived at school with wet shoes almost every day, despite an umbrella. It simply rained too often. Excursions to other cities, such as Braga or Coimbra, are highly recommended.

3.0Manfred Netherlands

I like the mixture of old buildings and new attractions. It wasn't so crowded in winter. In summer it is perhaps a little too touristy. It's a shame that so many small shops and restaurants away from the pedestrianised area have been closed and abandoned.

5.0Michaela Germany

Porto is beautiful city, the center is small enough to be visited by feet and public transports takes you anywhere. Many typical foods, and a lot of history to be discovered. Amazing view points and enough activities for different taste.

5.0Noémie France

An attractive city that lives from its overall atmosphere rather than from individual mega-sights. The ups and downs and the location on the Douro with such different districts and many hidden gems are something very special.

5.0Dirk Germany

It's not the city I would like to live in. But for a stay of two or more weeks, Porto is very exciting and has a lot to offer. It's great fun to discover and experience the very different neighbourhoods.

4.0Cosima Germany

We loved Porto and the people were extremely friendly especially for someone learning Portuguese. The weather was really rough in January. We had two weeks of tropical storms with red alerts.

5.0Katherine

Porto seems to me a pleasant and easy city to walk around in spite of its slopes and the pavement of some of its streets. The distances are not big. Good food. Recommended city.

4.0Alicia Spain

It’s really difficult not to fall in love with the city. There are so many interesting things to see and do, and it’s a perfect base for daily trips to other cities nearby.

5.0Kasia Poland

You have to "conquer" Porto. It is not as nice and warm as Lisbon right from the beginning. But the more you know the place the more interesting and gratifying it becomes.

What language school directors said about Porto

Porto is a warm city where everyone easily feels at home. People are welcoming, food is great and the wine is extensively known throughout the world. It’s still an affordable city.

The school was excellent. My husband and I learned quite a bit even in a short period of time. We had three different teachers over three weeks but each teacher focused on different are of our language development.

Oficina de Portugues

Our teacher Sara was incredibly nice and funny. We were in a group of 4. I had a lot of fun. Looking back, I realize that as an absolute beginner I should have learned more phrases, I can now list 30 different items of clothing but can't order a coffee. So maybe the focus wasn't on the things I would have thought about in terms of content, but the lessons were really incredibly funny and great. I will definitely do it again.

Oficina de Portugues

The teacher (Rita) is able to respond very well to the different learning speeds of the students (there were three of us) and provides varied lessons with lots of information about Portugal and the "mindset" of the Portuguese. I found it perfect! As we were older, it was also quite exhausting with 4 hours per day, but I would still like to come back next year.

Information about Porto

Why Porto? Facing the big lodges of port wine to which it gave its name across the river Douro, Porto is Portugal's second largest city and there is a certain feeling of rivalry towards Lisbon. But although its ancient roots have been preserved with pride, a modern and lively commerce makes it a thriving city and its traditional importance as an industrial centre does not diminish the charm and character of its old quarters or even of the newer and busy avenues, shopping centres and quiet residential blocks. Porto affords many other attractions, monuments and museums, as well as a cultural agenda which has been steadily improving. With a well-known gastronomy and hospitable population, it is also the starting point to explore the river Douro in an unforgettable journey upstream.

Q&A - Questions about Portuguese courses and schools in Porto

I am looking for a school near Tondela/Viseu.
In Portugal, we work with schools in three cities: Lisbon, Porto & Faro. Now I had a quick look and Porto is closest to Tondela/Viseu, but still 1.5 hours away. That's still quite far away. Would that be an option? The schools in Porto can also offer accommodation.

By the way, we also work with Portuguese schools in Brazil, should you want to adventure in another Portuguese-speaking country in the future.

What is the content of the Portuguese courses offered by Fast Forward Institute in Porto?
The courses offered by Fast Forward Institute are standard courses and students study all aspects of the language. Didactic is studying grammar and having discussions, focusing on the core components of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The course is complemented by discussions around culture, history and current affairs, films, articles, and music. A test to assess your exact language level takes place at the school on the first day of the course. Based on the test results, the school will provide all students with more details about the content of the course on their booking dates.

Can you go surfing in Porto in September/October?
Yes, you can still go surfing in Porto and the surrounding cities in autumn. The water will be a little colder, but with a good wetsuit, it is very possible to spend a few hours on the water.
Lisa Schiwy, LanguageCourse.Net - Jun 10, 2024

The evaluations by students after they complete a course is excellent. The discount for using your website is also a great incentive. It also would be wonderful if the website would include more cities and a bigger selection of schools in each city.

The service of languagecourse.net is great, I booked already 3 schools and I can highly recommend it. In fact, I tell everybody I meet on my journey in South America about this website and how well everything is organized.
Gabriele Ragger verified client
I am very satisfied. I found more/relevant information on your webpage than on the school's website itself. It is the cheapest offer. I'm going to book my next course on your site soon.

Just keep up the good work. The organization is excellent, so that even less experienced travellers would feel ok to come to China. I also felt really good in the host family, they were really great!
