The IELTS Academic English qualification is frequently required for university and college entrance. As a guide, entry to a university course normally requires an IELTS score of 6.0 to 7.0, and college courses normally require IELTS 5.0. The test covers speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
This group course will cover all four skills that are tested. It is suitable for people who have already gained a 6.0 and want to improve their band score, or who have never taken the test before but are of an equivalent level.
You will develop exam techniques and work on improving the four skills that are tested in the academic version of the exam (speaking, listening, reading and writing). You will also have lessons on the grammar and vocabulary areas that are important for succeeding.
The IELTS teachers will organise practice tests to monitor your development. This can also include a speaking test that is done on a one-to-one basis, as well as writing feedback, with a member of our teaching team who is experienced in this area.
This course must be booked for a minimum of 4 weeks.

The host families are all different and reflect the diversity of life in modern Scotland. Some hosts will be a "traditional" family of a couple with children living at home. However it is equally as likely that your host may be a couple or single person whose children are grown up and have left home.
Glasgow is a modern, cosmopolitan city and our host families reflect the different backgrounds and cultures of the people who live here. All the families speak English at home although they will not necessarily all be Scottish by birth. Many of the hosts have worked with the school for many years and all are accustomed to welcoming students to their home and will do their best to make sure you are happy and comfortable in their home.
All the hosts are inspected by the school before they start using them to ensure that they meet the strict standards required by the British Council, including compliance with gas and fire safety regulations.
