Having friends in Genoa, I already knew the city, the city center is magnificent with many ancient palaces, in history the republic of Genoa competed with the republic of Venice, the porto antico in its style is pretty too, the walks on the top of the are to be done with a breathtaking view of the sea, the traffic is dense there as in all the big cities but the Italian drivers are very fair-plays and patient with the foreign drivers, the gastronomy of the sea and the excellent Italian wines, the custom of the Aperitivo from 6.30 pm is to be discovered, the inhabitants are friendly and absolutely.

It is a beautiful city. For the most part, it's also clean. It's just a pity that the beautiful old town smells of urine everywhere. That is unpleasant. Public toilets could help. I had bought a weekly bus ticket. The bus ticket inspectors should be a bit more friendly to the tourists. I was ripped off straight away because I didn't know that a weekly ticket also had to be stamped. 40 euros had to be paid, even though I was practically sitting next to the vending machine.

Genova is a relatively big and well located city. The public transport is great, so you can reach many interesting cities by train (really beautiful places). But the city itself is not really nice. It was dirty (specially the historical center) and, nowadays, it's full of foreign people, some of them working as prostitutes on the streets.

The school was good, but the people of Genoa aren't the type to open up and make friends right away, so I think it's a city where you'll come to understand the good things in a long term rather than a short term. Not recommended for short stays. Also, compared to other cities

Genoa is the ideal city by the sea, ideal for walking to everything, ideal for excursions along the coast and into the hinterland - it is neither too big nor too small. In my 10 days I got a good insight from her.

Beautiful city with a rich history. A wide range of cafes, restaurants and shops. Short distance to other places of interest (eg Cinque Terra, Portofino). Lots of traffic and steep slopes.

I fell in love with Genova. I don’t think many people realize what an interesting place it is and I’m not sure I want them to for selfish reasons.

What school directors said about Genoa

Lara Avvenente

There are plenty of reasons. Genoa has a typical Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild and pleasant temperatures all year round! Genoa is a real Italian city where students still find kind people who welcome them with a smile and who are happy to speak Italian with them and not English! Genoa is the ideal place for a pleasant holiday and to discover the beautiful surroundings: Portofino, Santa Margherita, Le Cinque Terre Genoa is a city on a human scale where it is possible to live in the city center, forget the car and get around on foot or by public transport Genoa has an excellent price-quality ratio, the cost of living is well lower than that of Milan, Florence, or Rome Genoa is a city to be discovered. You never cease to discover it ... the mountains that surround it and embrace it, the sea that gathers it, the narrow and fascinating alleys of the historic center, where time seems never to have passed, the historic shops with artisans who hand down ancient knowledge and the elevators and funiculars that connect the quarters built on the hills, the ancient noble palaces and the perfumes of the trattorias when you walk at lunchtime ...

Genoa has the biggest medieval historical center in Europe, is a city full of history and Italian atmosphere set in a region full of natural beauties

Centro Studi Italiani

The strong point of the school is the teacher Giada who did a very professional job. She was pedagogical, interactive with good methods, exercises, reviews. She managed the group and class situation very well and took into account the development needs, skills and strengths of the individuals. However, do not have experience with other teachers than Giada. Very good behaviour also with the administration.

The teachers are caring and committed to helping us learn well. The lesson content is substantive and useful, and plenty of intentional interactions to engage us in speaking Italian. The location of the school is superb, right in the heart of Genoa, by the side of the historic and beautiful San Lorenzo Cathedral. Overall, it’s a cosy niche school with a conducive, supportive and pleasant learning vibe.

Information about Genoa

Why Genoa? Genoa is "the most winding, incoherent of cities, the most entangled topographical ravel in the world." So said Henry James, and the city is still marvellously eclectic, full of pace and rough-edged style. Sprawled behind the huge port Italy's largest and an increasingly popular stopoff for international cruise liners is a dense and fascinating warren of medieval alleyways, a district which has more zest than all the coastal resorts put together.
