In my opinion, studying at this school is especially suitable for students with a B1 level and higher. A variety of exercises in pairs and groups provide good conversational practice. The atmosphere at the school is very welcoming, the activities after class are interesting and informative.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Please bear in mind this school requires a lot of personal discipline and application because they will only correct your speech or teach grammar if you ask them.
Other comments
100% speech focused. Students could benefit from a bit more grammar. Teachers should give feedback on what you do wrong real time. Some 3 daily feedback loops.
Quality of teaching / language progress
No paper or pens were given.
Accommodation
Really small and bad bed, but I'm 1.85 cm, so it might be different for a smaller person. The appartement was quite noisy and far from the centre. I shared the livingroom and bathroom with 2 other students. You could hear everything from the adjoining rooms. The distance was in my opinion too far; >40 min by foot from school. Great airconditioning in my room. I did not have any meals.

Learn Italian it's easier for Portuguese and Spanish speakers even if they are beginners. Mix classe with other languages speakers just slow their learning and makes lessons boring.

Not everything listed on the website was provided by the school; for example, the family accommodation had no Wi-Fi while the shared apartment was far enough on foot and had no TV or permanent heating (I caught cold because the heating was not working sometimes).

Other comments
The school has a total immersion policy which is fine for advanced classes but not for beginners. Immediately after your assessment they do not speak English. We had people in the class who could not even say hello or count to 10 in Italian. As all instructions were in Italian it was very hard to make progress and you had to rely on other students who had a better understanding.

The main focus of teaching in schools is speaking, overcoming the language barrier. The most important here is to speak without thinking about the forms of verbs, articles, about any grammar. It will come later. If you agree with this, then this school is for you. I just needed such an approach.

This is the perfect school to learn Italian in Florence. It is located in the downtown area, so it is close to many points of interest. Positive aspects of school
I very much liked my teacher, Francesca, who was always very friendly, patient and helpful, and her teaching method, which I believe was to get us to practice among ourselves in the classroom as much as possible, while not forgetting about the importance of grammar too. I learned a great deal in 2 weeks, and could converse after the course!! Another thing I loved was my fellow students, from all over the world. They were universally very friendly, fun to be with, and we were all pretty much on the same level.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Don't kill yourselves trying to see too many museums for too long each day, especially if you're a little up in years. Probably I'm the only one who would do that, but I hope I learned my lesson. Also, don't bring too much stuff!!!
Other comments
I heard from students in other classes that all the teachers there were fabulous, not just mine. Also, we had a substitute the last 2 days, and he was fabulous too!

The method of this school is based on improving your one's oral skills. Not so much on studying or taking notes, but they expect that to talk, talk and talk. I improved a lot and after 4 weeks I do have a fairly high level.

They only have three different levels, so in every class there are students with very diverse knowledge. Teachers do not make any kind of correction (sometimes they leave the classroom while the students are doing some speaking exercises). Teachers do not provide grammatical explanations. Only different types of exercises are done in pairs or groups of 3 (and they are not always corrected).

I really enjoyed my time with them, including the host family. Everyone was very helpful and kind. I wish I could go again. There was only one thing I was disappointed with: there was no organised excursion tour to Lucca. When I received a sample afternoon activity list, there was a tour to Lucca and Pisa with a teacher. I was looking forward to it. Anyway, I went on a tour to Pisa with an external group that the school staff arranged for me . Maybe the information you gave to me was not up-to-date. However, on the whole, I am very satisfied.

Koinè's method is not for people with little motivation or desire to work, but I think it works. I leaved the school talking a little bit (and understanding) after only two weeks of contact with the language.
Other comments
The location of the school and the friendliness of the staff makes the stay enjoyable. I think the teaching method they implement is not suitable for one-week courses, even less if you're starting, because it will not give you time to take profit of it. But in my two weeks course I got a good initiation. I will repeat without any doubt, because I still have to learn much more. The school is small, so the atmosphere is very familiar and with a very personal treatment. Maybe you are lucky and Marco is your teacher and then a apart from learning you will enjoy working and you will have fun.

Try to avoid Florence in peak season or over holidays like Easter. The city can just be jammed with tourists and people. Reserve your admission ticket online for the Uffizi and Galleria Academia well in advance.

My host family was disappointing compared to a French family I had stayed with for a similar French language class. While the emphasis on getting the students to speak as much Italian as possible to each other in small groups was helpful, it also seemed that we listened to each other's bad Italian for much of the class!

The stay in Florence was a hit. The school is great! Small, but very personal. I was very satisfied with the size of the groups and the quality of the lessons. I went from A1 to B1 in 3 weeks. Incredibly nice teachers and staff create a nice learning atmosphere.

I did not like the fact that the owner was not notified of my arrival and that I had to wait outside all day until he arrived. Also, internet never worked and the school's bar was never open.

I booked lessons in the afternoon which are different to those in the morning. The main subject of the morning is talking, teamwork, little grammar while we used to do writing in the afternoon. The combination of the two is great!
Other comments
The teachers are all very nice and they do a great thing in teaching. It's recommendable to talk italian even during the breaks. You really lose the fear of talking. It's also much fun to go out and do some interviews. Thanks a lot to Marco, Cristina and Cosetta, not to forget Leonardo, chief of the cafeteria, who cooks deliciuos lunches!!
