Fast Forward is a very good school to work in a pleasant learning atmosphere. The teaching staff are motivated and highly qualified. I was also very pleased with the open and friendly contact with the language school management. This is not always the case. I will be back!

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The learning groups are small, so you are constantly challenged. The contact with the teachers was very good.
Negative aspects
The lessons are based almost exclusively on the textbook, which is certainly very good. But I would have liked a little more flexibility in the way the exercises are worked through.
City/place
It's not the city I would like to live in. But for a stay of two or more weeks, Porto is very exciting and has a lot to offer. It's great fun to discover and experience the very different neighbourhoods.

A friendly, informal environment and great lessons. The theory taught mainly in the morning was applied directly in simple dialogue situations in the afternoon. Individual questions and requests were dealt with well.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Teachers are very friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. School location is super convenient. Everyone is supportive and encouraging to learn the language and afternoon activities cover all landmarks and interesting places to visit. There is a real sense of camaraderie across groups and teachers.
Negative aspects
Teachers change on a weekly basis so if you choose longer course, it’s very likely you will be taught by different teachers. School has a policy of rotating teachers from one week to another. Teaching style is quite old school, with book and whiteboard only, no multimedia or listening exercises.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Great lunch places nearby, walking distance to the city centre, good spots for shopping and Mercado do Bolhao, not to be missed.
City/place
It’s really difficult not to fall in love with the city. There are so many interesting things to see and do, and it’s a perfect base for daily trips to other cities nearby.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The teachers and staff were very nice. The location in the centre of Porto is excellent.
Negative aspects
Unfortunately, I was placed in a B2 course, probably for lack of enough other students, although I only have my A1 diploma. Therefore, the level was too high for me. I didn't receive the materials until the third day of class and they didn't include an explanation of the grammar. Therefore, it is absolutely advisable to buy an extra book on grammar.
For a student with a B2 level, this would certainly have been a good course of study.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Boat trip on the Douro, eating out in one of the small restaurants
Other comments
It took a long time to get the address of my host. This might worry other participants who are less calm.
City/place
A very recommendable city. The only thing is that I would no longer travel there in November, as I arrived at school with wet shoes almost every day, despite an umbrella. It simply rained too often. Excursions to other cities, such as Braga or Coimbra, are highly recommended.
Quality of teaching / language progress
In general, OK. The training materials should cover the grammar a little more.
Accommodation
The room was fine. It did not offer any luxury, but I did not expect that. It was very clean and big enough, even had access to a large terrace. The breakfast was very modest. However, I don't eat much breakfast, so my wishes were fulfilled. I am sure I would have had more choice if I had wanted it. The host was very nice and helpful. The public transport connection is poor. The range of restaurants nearby is very modest.

Clean and feels safe and not too expensive. Nice to be by the sea and there are lots of parks, museums etc.

The accommodation was a bit far from the school, but this was more than made up for by the lovely family who made me feel very welcome, and the comfortable room with private shower room. It was a good opportunity for me to find out how to get around in Porto.

City/place
You have to "conquer" Porto. It is not as nice and warm as Lisbon right from the beginning. But the more you know the place the more interesting and gratifying it becomes.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Very nice and good teacher. She could have prepared more exercises about the week points, I would have appreciated that. I would book her again in any case and let her know my expectations more clearly.
Accommodation
It was all fine. My guestfather was a really nice and helpful person. That is why my overall rating is 5 stars. I can throughly recommend him. The place is nice, not very near to the school though.

The Fast Forward school is really fantastic! It is located in a very central position of the city, near the metro station. The course was really well organized and my teacher was exceptional, both in explanations and in accompanying us in the afternoon activities.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
At the time of the communication of the accommodation, the student must be informed about the system of public transport, especially and it is located in a non-central area; the system of the Oporto areas could be a bit complicated, especially for young and/or inexperienced students.
Other comments
Everything at school was beautiful from the beginning: welcome on the first day, possibility to have hot and cold drinks in the student lounge, afternoon activities and finally a farewell party on the last day, with refreshments, attendance certificates and a little gift: exceptional!

Positive aspects of school
The teaching is very professional and encouraging. All teachers and office staff are very helpful and friendly. I was there at a quiet time of year but it still seemed like real efforts were made to group students together with similar levels and also with the visits and social programme was great.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and willing to do whatever they could to help me improve my language. My teachers were Clóvis and Mafalda, and I really enjoyed learning from them. I especially recommend taking individual classes alongside the group classes, as you can ask directly about any doubts you have. During my individual lessons, Mafalda made everything very clear and easy to follow, even things that I had been really confused about in the past.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Participate in the organised trips and activities (that include Ribeira, the river, Praça de aliados and the Torre dos Clérigos). The centre of Porto is small enough that you can see a lot in a week and it is really beautiful.
Other comments
I really enjoyed learning there, the atmosphere was great and as I said, the staff was really lovely. I feel that I really learned a lot in the week (and it counted as a nice holiday too) and I couldn't recommend FastForward Institute in Porto more.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Group excursions, exploring the city, visiting the wine cellars of Porto. A concert of Fado. Typical restaurants in Vila Nova de Gaia. Go and meet the local people, who are very welcoming and open-minded. Home stay is a great opportunity to understand the lives of families, to meet people, and to practice the language outside the classrooms. For me, it was also a great experience to share these two weeks with this family, with who I kept in touch up to now.
Other comments
This school has excellent standards, with a warm and very competent staff, you feel at home and the atmosphere is great. I lost my fear of speaking in public and I have learnt a lot in two weeks. It was a great experience that I intend to renew next year.

The location of the school is great, you can go everywhere by foot. It's situated in the centre are there are many shopping facilities. Leisure time and tourism is planed monthly and the school can give you recommendations as well. The teachers also visited the city with us, so ... it was amazing! I chose a apartment hotel but there are many accommodation options and it is not expensive. At lunch, you can to a restaurant with the school, where they offer different things every day and which has a good menu.

I changed family that's why this evalution is quite difficult. The second family was kind and the school in walking distance (25-30 minutes). The teachers were different, too: The first group was full of Spanish speaking students which wasn't easy for the teacher. In the second group there were only 3 really interested learners with a good teacher.

The teaching concept is very good. The teachers have all completed higher education/university language courses and thus can teach linguistically very sound classes. They also have infinite patience. The family atmosphere at Fast Forward is very special. I have taken a 6 week 6 h a day course of individual lessons. It took all that time to break me of my Spanish speaking habits. Now I am working in Angola and have no communication problems.

Teachers are skilled, and the staff is always helpful. If you want to have maximum education value, you should give feedback during the course (not just after the course has ended). Some private lessons in between classes are also very efficient.
