Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Good location (only 500 m from the hotel); good leadership by director Efi; good teachers and contacts possible with fellow students.
Negative aspects
My number of hours have been reduced (in accordance with the agreements between the organization and the school; the number of extra activities could have been slightly more. (Those that were there were very good (dance / museum visit / dinner at the end...)
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Social activities discussed above.
Other comments
Everything depends on the management; not good in Athens due to slow management, fine here.
City/place
Very beautiful city with a harbor and an old part of the city. Also good restaurants at reasonable prices; beautiful beach close to the hotel.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Very good; Too bad that number had to be reduced due to my (high) level.
Accommodation
Very good hotel in terms of location, friendliness of staff; breakfast was a bit simple, but sufficient.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The teachers are all very friendly and accommodating, there are always cookies and snacks available during break and you can always get a coffee or water. There is air conditioning in every room and the teaching is competent and well thought out.
Negative aspects
I didn't really like the book that was used there, it's not structured strictly and is often incomprehensible, the instructions are only in Greek and there are no solutions at the back of the book. This makes the book not suitable for working alone at home, which I thought was a shame. I didn't take it home with me because it is very thick and heavy. On the other hand, the vocabulary list at the back of the book is very good. Otherwise I have nothing to complain about!
City/place
A beautiful little place with a historic old town with many small shops and small streets, a Venetian harbor and a wonderful soft sandy beach without pebbles!
Accommodation
The Ideon Hotel is a cute hotel 200m from the beach and 8 minutes walk to the school. Theresa and Antonis are incredibly friendly and fulfill your every wish. The rooms are very small and the balcony is only a small towel, but the bed is 1.40 m wide. All in all, it meets the requirements. The roof terrace is great and you can do your homework or hang out there. I would have liked the breakfast to be a little more plentiful. So I bought the fruits and nuts for my muesli myself. But I would go to this hotel again at any time, I felt very comfortable there!

Positive aspects of school
That they are very flexible and respond to changing requests.
Negative aspects
The rooms on the street are very noisy. Library is not available.

The new Archaeolog. Museum really has quality.
Other comments
Very nice teachers
City/place
I liked it a lot, it's a good place to live.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Since I had almost only one-to-one lessons, the one-to-one lessons were not a wise choice.
Accommodation
Although it was not planned, I was "fed through" by the hostess. As my original room was very dark due to a huge rubber tree in the courtyard, I changed rooms but had to pay an extra €10 per day.

Feel unable to comment on nightlife, had visited the town before and enjoyed returning although both shops and restaurant owners fail to understand that pestering counter-productive
Quality of teaching / language progress
Teacher was switched half way, both were satisfactory however
Accommodation
Very friendly and helpful owners - only drawback that room too small for a comfortable chair, which would have made doing homework there more comfortable

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Nice competent teacher Maria, coffee/tea with sweets well taken care of, enthusiastic team, huge amount of information on Greek language. Especially a lot of grammar. And the pace was high. Private lesson because there was only 1 other student. Classroom atmosphere was good. Instructive homework.
Negative aspects
Discussion point with team after week of classes paid for 40 hours of lessons. According to school academic class schedule of 50 minutes. First week from 9am to 12.30pm and second week 9am to 1.30pm with 10-minute break. Friday 14 April 2023 turned out to be no class. This could have been more clearly confirmed by the school. There were no additional afternoon activities and excursions. On the Wednesday 12 April 2023 to informed tomorrow is my last day then had lunch with other groups which was fine. Museum was mock 3D half-hour film with 15 minutes of that on Greek history. I had lunch and dinner on my own for a fortnight. It was a pity that doing a lot of things in a group was not possible. This meant that speaking Greek remained underexposed. Furthermore, the classroom was not cleaned once in two weeks.
Other comments
Learned a lot but not yet able to put into practice what I learnt in terms of speaking. Reading progressed well though.
City/place
I already knew inner city Chania. Neo Chora district is great fun base. Walked a lot and hired car in weekend to go to Botanical Gardens. Bus was not yet running due to winter schedule.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Enthusiastic teacher, but a lot of focus on grammar. Not much speech or culture.
Negative aspects
Too poorly lit, too loud. We had the door open because it was so hot, but there were motorbikes and noisy traffic outside so we didn't always hear what we were saying. No air conditioning so lucky it was early summer. Would not recommend anyone to study later in June-July-August.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Think in advance if there is an activity you would like to do in your free time. The school/Effie can help book you in. For example, I didn't know she could arrange dance lessons (Greek dance). Too bad, because I would have liked to go to that. None of this is included in the school's offer, you have to pay extra for it.
Other comments
Friendly and service-minded staff. Effie who runs the school is fantastic!
City/place
Chania has culture, history and modern shops. The port, tavernas with great food, beaches in the middle of the city. You can find everything here!
Quality of teaching / language progress
No testing was done initially. We were few students and were divided into two groups.

Positive aspects of school
Personal attention. There was a real effort to teach me something.
Negative aspects
At the same time, private lessons also have disadvantages. It is very demanding and I would have preferred to have classmates to practise with and to do something outside the lessons. It would be advisable if the teachers would bring the different students into contact with each other, without any obligations. Fortunately, I did meet a fellow student, but that was entirely my own initiative.
City/place
Beautiful city, also beach and sea.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I would like to have conversation lessons in particular. Maybe also listening exercises with headphones.

Positive aspects of school
The teachers and the principal are very warm and know how to put people at ease. The two teachers are very competent and very invested in their work. The discussions were very rich and I made good progress.
Negative aspects
Because of the health situation, I found myself the only student the second week and even if the private lesson went very well I regretted not being in contact with other students. In addition there was no activity and the proposals on the site had played in my choice for this school.
City/place
It is a very pleasant, very beautiful city where life is good.
Quality of teaching / language progress
complete but I regretted that there were not in the margin of the lessons authentic documents, adapted of course, like rhymes, small poems, advertisements, cooking recipes, etc. The examples are too often disconnected from a context which makes it possible to understand the overall meaning.

I liked how friendly and accommodating Effi and Eleni (apologies for misspellings) were. I liked Eleni's style of teaching - friendly yet focused. I like that this school exists! I really appreciated Effi's trip that she arranged to the Museum of Typology and how personable she was.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
It's not necessary to book private lessons. Even if there are not other students, you can still book the class lessons and they will accommodate to you. It's cheaper.
Other comments
2 pieces of constructive feedback: 1) on the first day, outline to the student what you are going to focus on over the whole course (however long it is). This way, it is easier for the student to place what they are learning in a larger context. 2) get a textbook that has instructions in English, at least for the earlier levels. It is very difficult for me to complete the lessons without help from a Greek speaker.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Hard to say ... I was there from 09.00-10.40 every day ... didn't use any of what was at the school nor did I get info about it .... was the only student ...
Other comments
It says in some of the papers that one can sit at the school and conduct self-study with guidance from the teacher, if one is alone and therefore only had half the teaching time .... did not seem so suited to it ... my teacher ran off for the next assignment as soon as the hour was over. Recommended that I go to the local library to work there.

Very nice people who try to do their best. Crete is has a very raw wonderful beauty that I discovered by renting a motorcycle but watch out Greek drivers have strange habits of forcing you into the shoulder and passing anywhere. Once on the small mountain roads and trails it is wonderful.

Only 7 students started the same week as me, all with different knowledge of Greek, so it was impossible to make sensible classes of different levels, and we ended up in badly-matched groups. When we arrived on the first day, the school seemed vaguely surprised to see us, although several of us had registered a month in advance. My teacher was a very nice person, but didn't seem to have much experience in teaching Greek to adults, or much time to spare in preparing for each lesson.
