Accommodation
PROLOG Apartment

Rating: 4/5.0

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Well organised, located on a tram line, pleasant premises and a welcome coffee corner. The groups should be a little more homogeneous.
Negative aspects
The level groups aren't always homogeneous, and I think it's a shame that the extra private lessons are expensive, especially when you've signed up for 2 weeks. It would be nice if they could be increased from 45 minutes to an hour. Marcin is very nice, but he's not very good at organising things: for example, for Auchwitz and the Schindler museum, despite several requests, we ended up managing on our own...
City/place
It's a very beautiful city, very pleasant.
Accommodation
Correct accommodation but it's a flat for 4 and it's impossible to have a meal for 4 as the kitchen was so cramped, and there is no other communal space, in fact there are only 2 seats in the dining area. We appreciated having a washing machine but a second small clothes line was missing (and for hanging towels). Despite several requests, we did not get a cloth to wipe the dishes. Our room had access to a small garden and with the good weather it was great.

Positive aspects of school
Above all, the teaching is a particular strength of the school. High level of demand and pace in the learning process. Very friendly and helpful teachers for all language problems.
Negative aspects
Not so good: only one toilet, not directly accessible from downstairs, it is unfortunately on the 1st floor. Wouldn't a toilet in the basement be possible?

Positive aspects of school
The teachers are committed and competent. The placement within the groups worked really well. My class consisted of five people and we fit together very well. I learned a lot in the short time and enjoyed the friendly, family atmosphere. Our teacher Sylwia had an answer to every question and lots of great tips for places to see in Krakow. I can highly recommend the school.
City/place
I fell in love with the city. I lived directly on the Planty around the Old Town and let myself be enchanted every day anew by the charm and beauty of the Old Town. The Rynek, the Wawel Castle, Kazimierz - but also the trams - did it for me. There are also many great second-hand shops. Cheap and colourful, like in London. The people are relaxed and friendly.

Burg Wawel and Salzmine Wieliczka
City/place
Kraków is beautiful and always worth a visit. Our next vacation will take us to Kraków.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The booked intensive lessons were intensive and yet very interesting and instructive. The afternoon program was tailored to the very young participants and sometimes offered very late or too quickly after class. The Saturday event was canceled completely, so I went to it personally on my own. But as written there were more young participants and they had their program. Otherwise everything is very easy and calls for repetition. But a very big negative point for me personally was that there was a lot of English spoken. Even with the afternoon program. Explanations of the teachers, in English. Greeting in restaurants and shops, English. So I not only learned Polish, but also caught a little bit of English. But by and large, the language trip was worth it and you can recommend it with a clear conscience. I will definitely be back in 2 years and then with the desire to stay with the same host family again.
Accommodation
actually half board was booked, but then the family went on vacation. The kitchen could be used without restrictions.

Unfortunately I have to be honest here. There were two issues that gave me cause for concern. The first is that I was messed about with my choice of accommodation. I originally selected dates in July with the option for private accommodation organised by the school. I was told several days later that this option was no longer available on my chosen dates so I changed my dates accordingly and proceeded to book flights. Less than two weeks before the course commenced I was told that the accommodation was actually not available for my chosen dates after all and was offered a room with a family which I point blank refused. I haven't lived with my own family in sixteen years and definitely didn't want to live with strangers for a week in their family home. Then suddenly they did find me a room in an apartment with other students on the course which turned out to be absolutely fantastic and in a great location. The other issue is that on the first day of the course we were informed that we would be having no lessons on Wednesday 15th August as this was a public holiday. As I only signed up to a week this meant that essentially 20% of my lesson time was lost. I enquired about this and asked if I could receive a partial refund of the course fee and they refused. At no point before the commencement of the course did anyone communicate to me that there would be no lessons on this day nor did I know it was a public holiday in Poland. This would make me think twice about going back to this school again.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Clarify in advance whether there will even be a course that you need. As apparently there weren't enough teachers, you could be placed in a group with a very different performance level.
Other comments
Constantly changing teachers is not a good thing. It is really bad when a beginner gets a teacher who only speaks Russian and Polish. Those lessons were kind of a waste. The highly popular cultural program was sort of a mess. The program changed several times a day, so nobody really knew what was planned when and where. The trip to the Waliszka Salt Mine was not offered at all. Only the excursion into the mountains took place. Besides that, people would meet up in a pub. Also, the description states that there are workshops to better understand the language. Apparently this was only available for those who hadn't booked additional private lessons. The last day didn't go according to plan either. The day before, we learned that the school would close at 10:45 because of some repairs. Some students only found out on Friday that the school would close at 10:45. As a result, it wasn't possible to see the classmates anymore which I thought was a shame as I would have liked to say goodbye. The private tuition then no longer took place, and there was no farewell party. All the teachers were friendly. It is a shame that the teachers change indiscriminately and that no attention is paid to whether the language of instruction is a good fit. I was very lucky that I had a German-speaking teacher in the afternoon of the first week. The school advertises that the price includes the daily cultural program. Unfortunately, it did not take place as advertised. Fortunately, I didn't book the accommodation through the school. This gave me control over where I was staying.

Depends on the time of year. For a winter student, going to the cinema and watching Polish films is good for your language skills and cosy on snowy afternoons.

An excellent school. I would recommend the school to anyone wanting to learn Polish quickly, rather than an hour a week, or through self study.

Very good school, though the methods of teaching could be more connected with one another, for example, improved repetition of the new course materials. One teacher did this very well, the other teachers did this less thorough.
