Marvin
"Amazing school with great teaching staff and small group sizes. The focus on applying the language was extremely valuable and fun for me."
Katherine
"I was in Hadrian's class at first, then I switched to Annika's. While I was only with Hadrian a short time, he was very encouraging and pleasant, with a good sense of humour. Annika was the instructor I was with the for the rest of the classes. She really knows her grammar and was very strong in her explaining of idiomatic expressions and Parisian culture. She also had a good sense of humour. I would suggest this school to anyone wishing to learn French or improve their French. The small classes force you to speak up in French, which is, of course, the whole point."
Leonard
"Course materials somehow oldfashioned and complicated.
No flexibility to adapt to specific needs of the student, even if explicitely asked for. Promised to take up some of the needed topics, but never did."
Justyna
"Fantastic people!"

Student reviews about "Semi-Intensive French Course" at Atelier 9
Laleh
"The teaching method was great as it really helps students to progress their communication and speaking skills. However, it would be nice if before starting each class, the teacher explains on the day’s plan, lessons and general things to be learned and discussed during that day."
Jessie
"I took the semi-intensive course for a month and I have mixed reviews about it.
I really enjoyed the class, but I have to say there is no syllabus provided at all. You just come there and you don't even know what you will be learning for the day.
On my first week, we were learning about COD and COI. I didn't have any issues with it, but it could have been very helpful if we have been given the syllabus for the week in order for us to be ready for the class - it's for students who want to take the initiative and have a better learning experience.
Different teachers have different teaching approaches here. I have to raise my concern here that although I believe the classes are great, some teachers will really stick to their methods. My previous classmate has anxiety issues, she does really well in class, however, when asked to standup in front of the class to present, she would have difficulties managing it. The first time it happened, she couldn't handle it and stepped out of the class whilst presenting. When she left, I then told the teacher that she has issues when presenting in front of a group, but well, he still insisted in carrying out his "public speaking" method. Some of my classmates including myself were very disappointed with this as the class is for language learning and not for public speaking. So, if you have any issues with public speaking, maybe you should raise this to the teacher from the very beginning.
I wasn't able to join the activities after class, so I couldn't really comment on that.

“Overall I was disappointed with my experience at Atelier 9, but first let me begin with the good things: The school is very casual and informal, which makes for a relaxed and social learning environment. All of the teachers I encountered were nice and friendly, and the location of the school is also very easy to reach from most parts of Paris.
However, I found the learning environment to be far too casual. In two weeks I felt that I barely improved at all. A lot of time is wasted on long and drawn out exercises and games that aren't particularly effective. I understand that many other students appreciate this casual environment but I went to Atelier 9 to improve my French as much as possible and sadly this was not the case.”

Insider tip: “As we all know, Japanese grammar is different from other languages, so For Japanese, it may be more difficult to understand than people from South America and other European countries. They just pronounce it differently and may be able to catch on rather quickly. Don't be discouraged and do your best.
Even though it's a beginner level, you might enjoy it more if you learn a lot of words before trying it.”

“In contrast to my previous experience of studying a language, you talk a lot during the class to practice each new grammar skill being taught, with french being the only language spoken (even in the beginner's class). The teachers are genuine in making you understand.”
Insider tip: “The morning class focuses on introducing new grammar/concepts/themes, while the afternoon class focuses on going deeper into the subject and discussion. If you have the opportunity to talk a lot with french natives, the morning class might be enough to cover new grammar knowledge. Don't miss out on the weekly activities and force yourself to not speak English.”

This course includes a culture workshop once a week from 12:45 to 13:45. The Intensive French course from Atelier 9’s Paris school offers a friendly and relaxed learning environment, which is made possible through their commitment to keeping each group to a maximum of 9 students. The school follows a much more communicative approach compared to more traditional styles of teaching French, and for that reason features a large amount of conversation activities, such as role plays based on everyday situations, or debates about current events, and so on.
Students are encouraged to participate actively, so this course is suited for those who are enthusiastic about the prospect of speaking as much as possible in class.
The school also offers a range of workshops that you can take part in, such as pronunciation workshops, and French music workshops.
