Dar Loughat Granada, Spain

Arabic courses at this language school can not be booked on our site. The information is provided in order to orient our visitors about the complete range of language course options available in Granada.

Location: Dar Loughat, an Arabic language school, is just a short walk from the heart of its city of Granada in the South of Spain.

Local attractions: The school has a central location to the main attractions of the city and is a 20 minute walk away from the Alhambra, a medieval palace with excellent views over the city. The architecture and feel of the city has an arabic twist which is mixed with a more traditional Spanish style, making it interesting to explore. Dar Loughat is close to the Basilica of San Juan de Dios, with its jaw dropping interior, the Jardines Del Triunfo, arabic inspired gardens, and the Gate of Elvira the original gate entrance to the city.

Getting around: There are cafes, bars and restaurants around the school building and bus stops for public transportation nearby. Granada has an international airport which is a 45 minute bus ride from the school, for students to arrive and depart from and it also has domestic flights to other destinations within Spain. Students who want to spend a weekend or a day trip on the glorious Spanish coast then Malaga is 2 and a half hours by bus from Granada. The city is an excellent exploring base to see the surrounding area and also filled with exciting and historical gems for students to learn about whilst getting to grips with the Arabic language.

Course structure: The school has a general course available for students and also a specific course focused on how the arabic dialect is pronounced. This dialect course is based around 4 key arabic dialects; North Africa Arabic, Middle Eastern Arabic, Arabic of the Arabian Gulf and Egyptian arabic. When learning a language it is important that students do not just learn from one teacher as they will get accustomed to that person’s pitch and body language. Dar Loughat ensures that students are assigned to different teachers when moving up the levels for diversity.

Teaching style: The methodology used within the classroom is designed around each individual, made possible with small groups. The content of the course is progressive, with a gradual increase made between each lesson by subtly adding content into the students vocabulary and grammar structures to improve upon their overall understanding of the language. Each level is divided into 3 sub levels with clear and concise lesson structure so that students can be a part of their learning programme and as the student progresses towards the more advanced level of Arabic, culture and medial case studies are used to teach not just the language but the cultural differences with such a widely spoken language.

Cultural immersion: Although the school is in Spain, Granada is such a culturally diverse city for over 800 years interweaving Spanish culture with Arabic, that it is possible for students to practise arabic with the locals as there is still a strong Arabic community residing in the city today.
