Location, helpful staff (I mostly communicated with Pablo) and 1st day of school welcoming lunch with two different types of paella. I was lucky to have 2 completely different weeks: for the 1st week we were two people in the class for 3 days and alone for the rest of the week. For the second week there were 6 students in the class. Met with 4 different teachers. I am grateful for the response to my wishes.

The lessons and the teachers, very fun and learned a lot. Because I was only there for a week I did not learn as much as I would like to, but I think this was mainly due to the short duration of my stay. For example, I think with 1 week more (and with more talent for languages) that this would have gone much better.

Mixing of students from other countries; The enthusiasm of the teachers. I only attended a few hours of classes, compared to others who had been there for a long time, but I really felt like I was part of the group, despite the difference in age .. I particularly enjoyed the idiomatic lessons, in Spanish.

With only 2 in the class the teaching was fairly intensive, though rewarding. The two teachers were excellent in their different ways. One concentrated on grammar and vocab while the other encouraged us to talk more, discussing Spanish culture and history.

Other comments - wasn't told the correct results of the placement test - Is it really necessary to buy 2 books for 45€ if you stay less than 4 weeks? not like promised online: - there was only 1 activity per week (and no city tour or welcome lunch as promised online) - I was told the homestay's address very late and there was another (nice) person from my home country (but it said online this wouldn't happen, so less opportunity to talk Spanish)

The lessons and the teachers were very good, everyone worked together and the lessons were so varied. I learnt a lot and also enjoyed the language. We only spoke Spanish at school. Once we had paella, which was very nice.
Disliked
Classrooms are a bit cramped or the group was large. But usually not everyone was there. The students all left as quickly as possible at 1 p.m. I would have liked to have lingered around, asked this and that, stood around after the course. A large number of the students are currently from Russia, so there wasn't much of a mix from other countries.

Initially not clear which door was the entrance as doors were closed, perhaps a plaque outside indicating the buzzer which could be printed more clearly. As only there for a short time did not get opportunity to be offered any activities.

I learned Spanish earlier in life, and really only wanted to speak more fluently, augment my vocabulary and through this, use my grammar knowledge more effectively. I wanted more oral conversation, corrections on pronunciation and incorrect grammar usage. I have no interest in going through a testing process at my age!

The school is filled with competent, nice and affable teachers. They are all friendly and helpful.
Disliked
They advertise things that are not fulfilled by the school. For example, there is talk of activities outside the school that have not taken place even once. This is very disappointing as it makes it difficult to get to know new people.

Classroom with window to a shaft - 4 hours of zero daylight, bad air and stench, group lessons depend strongly on the level of the participants, in my case unfortunately very boring - but could swap into private sessions.

Questions and answers about Route 66 Idiomas

  • You have to select it during the booking process. Once the booking is confirmed and you know your flight-details, please send us them by email, and we can pass it on to the school.

Normally a member of the school will pick-up your son directly at the Airport, waiting at the exit with a sign of the school or the name of your son.
    Martin Zakostelecky, LanguageCourse.Net - Jul 06, 2023
  • Organising a room with a bed without a boundary at the foot end is no problem, always as long as availability is requested in time.
Pablo, Administration from Route66 Idiomas, Valencia - Jul 12, 2023
  • Unfortunately, this is not possible. The flats are already full with 5 people and they are single rooms and not suitable for 2 people.

  • The activity schedule can change per week, but most Mondays we eat paella with the students. There is furthermore the option to visit to the town hall (free, open to visitors) and a visit to Oceanografico (€15).
René, Administration from Route 66 Idiomas - May 19, 2022
  • In our experience, 5-6 weeks is enough to learn the basics. You should be able to finish the A1 level starting as a complete beginner. Of course this always also depends on the student.
René Clerx, Administration from Route 66 Idiomas - Feb 16, 2023
  • Route 66 has a choice between a shared flat or a host family.

If you choose a host family, you will have full immersion in the Spanish language, as you will then be able to practise Spanish with the local family over breakfast and/or dinner! Host families are of very good quality at Route 66.

If you opt for a shared flat, you will have more time to yourself and can do more of your own planning, as no meals are included. Shared flats score slightly lower than host families at Route 66.

All Route 66 accommodations are between 13-30 minutes' walk from the school, so you do not need to use public transport for this.

    I recommend choosing homestay accommodation!
