What our students said about Valencia
Unfortunately, there is a downside to everything. The city is actually great - shopping is really good, many things even open on Sundays. So many bars and restaurants, good infrastructure (but the buses can be unpredictable and the drivers can be ruthless), also well connected to other cities - less than 2 hours to Madrid on the train. In the summer it's a bit difficult in terms of hot weather and garbage. But they do have garbage and recycling containers everywhere - not everyone uses them, unfortunately. Quite a few people begging insistently wherever you go. Generally speaking, however, Valencia seems to be a generally safe city. Now for the unfortunate downside. Nightlife is really good and there are many international people in Valencia and there are events organized by the Valencia Language Exchange which are great fun - language exchange and clubbing at the Umbracle and language exchange and Latin dance lessons at the marina. Great fun for free entry - really - until it's not because these events are notorious for drink spiking and sexual assault on unsuspecting foreigners, especially students who will be eager to take advantage of the free entry and the opportunity for language exchange. Very unfortunate that bad actors specifically target these events for young foreign women in Valencia on exchange. And especially unfortunate that the problems - well known to medical personnel in Valencia - are not addressed at all when welcoming language students to Valencia.
Germany
I felt safe in Valencia at any time of the day or night, whether in the park, on the beach or in the city. In the 4 weeks I only met 1 unfriendly person - they must have moved! Otherwise I only got to know friendly and helpful people. For those who like it warm, like me, August is perfect. You can safely leave long trousers and sweaters at home. Even at night it is still pleasantly warm. Cycle paths run through the whole city, so that you can explore and traverse them by city bike (Valenbisi). The Turia, the green river bed, also invites you to cycle and / or linger. The city of arts and sciences is always worth a detour, especially for architecture lovers. With the changing light conditions there are always new perspectives to discover. I was also enthusiastic about the countless graffiti works of art that run through the whole city, but especially in the El Carmen district. Here you can drift for hours, from one street to the next and always discover something new. And the nightlife ... for me always something very special to dance on the beach or under the starry sky, therefore an absolute recommendation Umbracle (Fridays) and Marina Club (Wednesdays).
Germany
A charming, versatile and lively city, with historical and modern sides, with many restaurants and bars and with lots of greenery. Admirable are the many large very imaginatively designed different sports and leisure facilities in Valencia's many parks, which people like to use - for walking or cycling, as a retreat/niche for reading, for doing sports, suggestions for children and families to keep busy, for partying.... and for the price of 50 Ct (ten ticket) for 90 minutes, everything is also easily accessible by public transport (metro, bus). Staying with a host family meant that I was already out and about with the Valencians in the morning, before the tourists crowded the old town; this gave me another impression of the city.
Germany
I love Valencia! Food are pretty affordable compared to most countries in Europe. Valencia is a very flat city which I really like. I heard that it barely rain but while I was there, it's raining half of the time. Public transportation are cheap and convenient, but you can also walk to many places. It's not very big and bustling. It's very relaxing and I enjoyed my time there.
Taiwan
I cannot comment on nightlife as we went for walks in the afternoons until early evenings and never at night. We had a nice apartment with a balcony, where we prepared our meals,. We spent our evenings doing our homework :), reading, talking, drinking wine, watching Spanish and Latin-American movies on Netflix etc.
Germany
Concrete town, little greenery, dogs walk and poop on the cobblestones, some clean up after them, some don't.... The beach is about an hour's walk from the centre, but transport seems to work well. Hot and humid climate in summer, hard to tolerate without air conditioning in the room.
Poland
One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, the old town is enchanting, the science quarter is overwhelming, the beach is fantastic. The cycle paths are unique, we've never experienced anything like it. We cycled over 200 kilometres in the 14 days because it was so easy and safe.
Germany
A beautiful city with much to offer. Our trip coincided with Las Fallas which while being a fascinating cultural phenomenon (especially for the local population) it did impact on the ease with which one could get about. And naturally how well one might sleep.
Valencia is bigger than I thought it would be. Spanish people are very nice, there are many possibilities to eat something good. The sea is great there! The only problem with the city is that it is relatively dirty. :( Public transportation is also okay.
Hungary
Valencia is a city worth loving and living in. I hope that it keeps its character and does not lose its charm through too much tourism! Maybe it would be possible to reduce car traffic in the city a bit, so that the air would be better, too.
Germany
Great city for a longer period as we have a lot to do culturally. Also plenty to do outside the city at a relatively short distance (apart from walking). The city is great to explore a (loan) bike we found very practical and very doable.
Netherlands
I've never felt safe in a city myself (even at night). Lots to do and most sights / restaurants are not expensive, unless of course you go to the tourist squares such as Plaza Reina or Plaza Virgin.
Netherlands
A youthful city suitable for standard holidays and study holidays. There is plenty to do and little to get bored of, if you let yourself be swept away by the Valencia lifestyle.
Italy
The city is not as safe as it seems. An attempt was made to steal money from a "classmate" from her backpack. She also witnessed a personal attack on a woman on the bus.
Germany
I like Barcelona better. We were unlucky with the weather; three days with rain in spring. There was a lot of construction and the waterfront area is not very pretty.
Germany
Great destination. Lots of things to see and do both for adults and kids. Two weeks was not enough time there. I will be more than happy to go to Valencia again.
Poland
A charming city with a beautiful old town, a wonderful beach, very tasty paella and the Turia Park on the drained river bed, which meanders through the city.
Germany
Great place that is safe, friendly, with amazing historical center, green belt for exercising and great shopping. Don’t know anything about the night life.
Valencia is a great city. Especially for anyone who is neither a fan of big cities nor of small towns. The city offers a lot: life and tranquillity.
Germany
Very nice city to stay even for a longer time. But if you want to learn Spanish, the use of the two official languages can be confusing.
Germany

Nice, good teachers with a sense of humor. Based on the language test in advance, I was placed in a class that was just right for me in terms of level and that included people of varied ages.
Sympathetic school. In my month there was only one social activity (paella meal). I didn't mind. Perhaps young people think that is not enough.

Q&A - Questions and answers about Valencia
- Do I get a letter of acceptance for my course?“Most schools offer letters of acceptance after your booking has been confirmed and paid in full. ”Louise Granath, LanguageCourse.Net - May 29, 2023Which schools in Valencia have a lower average age and that you recommend for students under 25?“The schools with a lower average age in Valencia are these two schools: Hispania (average age 20-25) and Enforex (average age 20-24). Enforex even has the option of accommodation in a student house.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 14, 2023My partner and I both want to book the course and the Homestay accommodation. We are booking online separately but we both want to stay at the same Homestay address. How do we ensure that we stay at the same address?“On the enrollment form, you will find a specific field in which you can inform that you are travelling with your partner.
Based on that, the accommodation will be organized for both of you in the same house, and we will reinforce your preferences with them and offer assistance throughout the process.”Ana Carolina Dos Santos, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 24, 2022Are there schools in Valencia that offer English group courses?“English in Spain is not a very popular option, but is sometimes possible. Does it matter where in Spain?
Enforex and Don Quijote both offer English courses for juniors in Valencia, but not for adults.
Very possibly we could look into private lessons. Could that be an option for you?”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Nov 07, 2022I would like to do a semi-private course. Or an intensive course in a small group. What are the class times?“A semi-private course is often in the afternoons because the teachers are busy with the group courses in the mornings. It is important to have a buddy yourself that you can do the semi-private course with. If you don't have one, I recommend combining a group course with private lessons. A group course often has a maximum of 8 students in Valencia.”Robin Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 17, 2022I am interested in booking a 2-week course in Valencia. I have a service dog, small 4 kg, so easy to have with me everywhere. Is it possible to bring my dog to the classes?“We will be happy to organise a Spanish programne for you, but
unfortunately, we cannot accept pets in the accommodation or in the school.”Frederico Ramos, Admissions Team from Don Quijote - Jun 28, 2022I would like to do an Intensive Spanish course for two weeks. I am a 58-year-old woman, my preference is a seniors course in Valencia. I have already taken a course once in Valencia and once in Madrid and I also have an A1 certificate. I especially liked that there were afternoon/evening excursions that you could participate in. Furthermore, I also like to stay with a host family with breakfast and evening meals. Can you give me advice?“In Valencia, Enforex and Don Quijote offer 50+ courses. During these 50+ courses, you will take Spanish lessons with all ages (18+) and special 50+ activities are organized after the lessons.
You can also choose to do a General Spanish course for 2 weeks and then choose the school with a higher average age of student. In this regard, El Carmen is a good option. The average age for them is around 30 years old.
These three schools all have the option of host family accommodation, with half board.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 28, 2022My son would like to do 3 months of language study in Valencia. In March he wants to go back to the Netherlands for two weeks for a holiday. Is it possible to stop for 2 weeks in the middle of the 3 months and proceed upon return?“The general courses are almost always booked per week. This means that your son can certainly stop for 2 weeks during his stay in Valencia.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, LanguageCourse.net - Nov 17, 2021FAQ about schools in Valencia
- I would like to do a semi-private course. What are the class times? Are lessons in a small group?“A semi-private course is often in the afternoons because the teachers are busy with the group courses in the mornings.
The important thing is to have a buddy yourself that you can do the semi-private course with. If you don't have one, I recommend combining a group course with private lessons, for example.
A group course often has a maximum of 8 students in Valencia.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Oct 28, 2022Do you offer Spanish courses in Valencia for students 45+?“In Valencia, we have programmes for 50+ students, but currently, there are no programmes for 40+ students only.
As a suggestion, you can book a Spanish programme with a school where the average age of the students throughout the year is significantly higher than at most other schools. The school El Rincón del Tándem is a great choice for adult students!”Ana Carolina, Area Manager from LanguageCourse.net - Aug 29, 2022How many students can be accommodated in a shared flat?
And is it possible to know approximately in which area of Valencia they are located? Are there people of different ages in the same flat, or about the same age?“Usually 3-5 students stay in a shared flat. The final place of residence is shared by the school with the students individually, after the course has been paid. Usually, schools try to classify students with other residents of about the same age. However, this is not guaranteed as it depends on several factors (period, number of registrations, possible last minute cancellations, etc.).”Anzo, Area Manager from LCN - Nov 29, 2021I would like to study Spanish in Valencia for 3 weeks. I am looking for a course of 20 hours per week. Level is A2-B1. I'm looking for a school where the average age is a bit higher (I'm 49 myself), but not only with people over 50. Can you help me with this?“In Valencia we work with very good schools. Most courses are standard courses with 20 lessons per week and since you already have Spanish knowledge you can start any Monday.
The average age is often higher if you book outside the school holidays. You can also opt for a business group course, as our experience is that few young students participate in these courses.
It is important to keep in mind that most schools prefer to group students by language level first and then by age for the best course experience.
When would you like to start and at which school? If you let us know (via the contact box) then we can check availability and investigate whether peers have already registered.”Robin Rebecca Pietersma, Dutch Consultant from LanguageCourse.net - Oct 13, 2021Didn't find what you are looking for?Interested in a specific type of course?
