Local Culture: Japan has a strong art influence, in particular in the form of manga and anime, but it also has a strong contemporary presence and this is displayed in the Yayoi Kusama Museum, a 30-minute walk away. There is a Samurai Museum with costumes and weapons, which is an interesting getaway from the hustle and bustle of street life in Tokyo, close to the borough centre. Around the school itself there are restaurants, cafes, shopping options, sports centres and public libraries.
Teaching style: Shinwa Foreign Language Academy is an experienced Japanese learning centre. The staff concentrates on providing the students with an environment where they can familiarise themselves with the language. The style of the class is focused upon understanding what areas the students are strong in with daily tests and reviewing any topics that are revealed as weaker for the students. This continual improvement gives students the confidence that they are gaining upon their own knowledge of the Japanese language. The course material has been created by the school itself and the staff are all experienced with its content and methodology.
Immersion activities:Japan is rich in culture and this is reflected throughout the year with numerous cultural events and local festivals to celebrate the diversity of the country. The school encourages participation in this as a strong part of learning Japanese is to immerse yourself in its environment and culture. Shinwa Foreign Language Academy holds activities throughout the year for its students to attend in a safe and secure environment. There is an opening ceremony for all students that attend the school to help each person not feel overwhelmed on arrival and to provide information on all that is available during their time in Tokyo.
Course structure: There are 2 styles of lessons available to students. There is a long-term course, with a duration of over a year, for students to truly absorb both the language and the culture as well as short courses for those who want to test the water with courses for 4, 12 or 24 weeks. The staff at the reception desk are multilingual to help students with whatever questions they may have. Although it is a large school, the number of students per class is usually small, so the distance between students and teachers is sometimes close, and it is a school with a cosy atmosphere where you can consult anything.
