Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Additional activities as part of the 50+ package were a highlight of my experience. I also enjoyed the diversity of students.
Negative aspects
Noise and disruptions because of construction work (temporary, but quite a disturbance at the time). In the grammar class the levels of students were not comparable, there should be a better system evaluating the level of students.

50+ is truly excellent.
Quality of teaching / language progress
My teacher-guide Silvia was truly the greatest gift of my experience.

Positive aspects of school
The best teacher i have had. Great location. Nice people. The 50 plus excursions were way below par. They offered mostly Florence walking tours and the guide was extremely knowledgeable but the entire tour is done in rapid Italian so you will only pick up bits and pieces. Book your own tours and enjoy this excellent school in the heart of Florence. I give the school my highest rating
Negative aspects
Lack of organized excursions outside Florence. Book your own tours

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
I especially enjoyed the capability of the grammar teacher, Silvia. Even though Italian is new to me and she spoke only Italian, I believe I understood most of what she said. The afternoon tours with her were wonderful.
Negative aspects
I cannot think of anything

City/place
It is a city filled with art and history, however it is over run with tourists. Even though I was a tourist too, I tried to stay away from the other tourists and associate with the people of Florence.
Quality of teaching / language progress
It was very good for learning basic grammar and vocabulary.
Accommodation
Breakfast plus one meal.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
- Friendly teachers, German language was banned, whenever necessary it was translated and explained in English (which was a problem for students who couldn't speak English). - Punctuality and reliability, tightly organised lessons The learning content was actually still written on the blackboard, multimedia was not used
Negative aspects
- Historic building - however, the classroom echoes a lot, which makes it a little difficult for beginners to understand. - The cultural tour in Italian is too difficult for beginners. At least it should also be explained in English.
Other comments
I received a link to a school WhatsApp group in advance. No one at the school approached us about it and no contact was made, so it was kind of pointless. But maybe it's only interesting for students who are staying much longer than a week.
City/place
The school management does not realise that some colleagues do not feel that their concerns are being taken seriously or that they no longer feel comfortable, which leads to an increasing deterioration in the climate in general and in motivation and morale. There is perhaps a lack of empathy and leadership skills here, which - admittedly - are required of teachers.
Accommodation
The landlady was very friendly. But it's not easy when the host family only speaks Italian and the guest doesn't yet, especially at check-in when there are a few things to clarify. The accommodation was very new and modern, the bathroom and kitchen were excellent. The room was small, there was only a small folding board for storage, there were no hooks for hanging up jackets ... The bed would have had to be converted into a sofa every day in order to be able to open the window.

Good and competent teachers. Good guide in the afternoons (Silvia B), it was good that the guide was in Italian so there was practice in the language even on the excursions. The school was well located and central
Negative aspects
I had a conversation in hall 4 and it was a bit disturbing with sounds from other classrooms.
City/place
Very good! It was nice to be in a slightly smaller city.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
I liked the grammar lesson followed by conversation lesson and the afternoon excursions.
Negative aspects
Since I had no knowledge of the language I could have used some helpful verbs to start like To: go, eat, drink, like, want, need, do ... as well as being provided some common phrases like: How much? What time is it? Which way? ... to the Left/Right, Straight ahead, etc.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
attend any all afternoon / evening events provided by the school.
Other comments
Excursions were interesting and informative.
City/place
Too hot in the summer and so many tourists ... a beautiful, easy to walk city
Quality of teaching / language progress
If possible to inform when a predominant group of total beginners usually register to come.
Accommodation
Homestay was nice & quiet. Good location not too far from the school.

Very competent and good teacher. Nice with just the right amount of "classmates". We had a lot of fun!

Take warm clothes and something for rain - climate change is making itself felt here, as well.
City/place
A very lively, vibrant, multicultural city with an incredible number of sights - unfortunately, this means that there are far too many tourists in the centre.... Unfortunately, my bike was stolen and an acquaintance's wallet was stolen... unfortunately, that also comes with the crowds. Nevertheless, I had a super nice, inspiring time.

Hardly any joint activities, no introduction of the new pupils. Short lessons. Large groups (approx. 8 students). As there were many long-term students in the course, only one grammar topic (conditional) was covered for 5 days. For a 1 week stay, I would have liked to see more topics covered.

Positive aspects of school
It was great that there were no computers in class, so all the students were more present and we learned together. The teachers were very pleasant and responsive to us. We were able to contribute to the lessons through our questions/interests. The secretary's office was also interested in our questions.
Negative aspects
I would have liked to see a library/DVD rental. Maybe there was something like that, but I didn't see it.

Parco delle Rose
Other comments
Everything went well.
City/place
I wasn't that interested in nightlife, nor in shopping. Florence is a very beautiful city. It's a pity that you have to walk a long way to get to the river and that the city is not very green. Florence is something for the rich when it comes to shopping. But I like to wander the streets and breathe in the atmosphere. The Parco delle Rose is very beautiful and the Oltrano district and some places where not all the money tourists walk around.
Quality of teaching / language progress
It was good.
Accommodation
For me, the situation of being a guest and always having dinner with a stranger is a bit weird. In the second week, I was joined by her daughter, who discusses very loud her problems. Family is just not for me. What I can say is that my hostess is friendly and can cook well. There was an acquaintance who walked my dog for a small extra charge. That was great.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The instructors were very passionate about teaching us Italian. They really helped make the class cohesive among the students.
Negative aspects
The housing/accommodation was confusing. I paid for 2 weeks of accommodations but ended booking my own Airbnb for the second week just to have a more comfortable place to be.
Other comments
The film the students saw the first day or so we started was not a good choice for beginners. Too intense, too fast even with subtitles.
City/place
I'm not into nightlife or shopping so can't rate them but I fell in love with Florence. I'm looking into doing a year here on an extended visa.
Quality of teaching / language progress
My private instructor was friendly and very supportive about my anxiety regarding speaking in Italian. I truly enjoyed her program.
Accommodation
I would recommend students book their own accommodations so they know what they are getting.

It's sad that there always has to be a minimum number of afternoon activities and the registration isn't really clear. This means that activities that would be interesting are repeatedly canceled.
City/place
beautiful!!!
Quality of teaching / language progress
That was really GREAT !!! Some course participants over 50 would have liked to have taken part and paid for it - but it was not possible - strange! But that is typical for the poor organization of the school.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Excellent organization and communication with the school. I liked the teachers - the lessons were good. The school is in the very center of the city, it is convenient to get there and have a walk as soon as the lessons are finished. The school organised a very interesting city tour.
Negative aspects
I can’t say what exactly I didn’t like, but there was a lack of cultural activities. Оnly one activity out of 4 offered during the week was outside the school building (city tour). I expected activities in nature or in the city, for example joint dinners, aperitifs, walks, trips, etc.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Take time to test your language level so that your level can be determined more accurately.
City/place
It seemed to me that Florence has a lot of bars for nightlife, but I did not have time to explore it, so I can not rate it. In general, in Florence you need to go to museums, because it is a city of art. You can also walk a lot and for a long time, eat, do shopping.
Quality of teaching / language progress
For some reason, I was counting on individual lessons in the afternoon, but instead there was a conversation lesson in a small group of 4 people. Overall, I liked this particular lesson, thanks to the work of the teacher and the group. In general, physically it is quite difficult to study 6 hours a day, but there is rapid progress.
Accommodation
On the one hand, it is convenient to have a breakfast for those who are hungry in the morning: coffee and something to eat is immediately ready. On the other hand, the breakfast was very poor and the same every day. If it is a one week stay, it is an excellent option, but it is better to organise meals yourself if you stay for a longer period. A great walk from home to school, but if it's more than one week, it's better to rent a bike, otherwise you get very tired of walking. An interesting apartment, but there were few working sockets, since the house itself is an old building.

Nice, friendly, helpful and competent. Skilled teachers. Super location in the center of Florence. Nice classrooms with plenty of space. Fantastic guide on tours around Florence (50+)
Negative aspects
Had to wait a bit (30-45 minutes) to get in the first day as the meeting time was set incorrectly. They did not accept payment on Visa (even though it was stated in the papers) so I had to go down to the bank and withdraw money to pay for the course. The building was under renovation which caused a lot of noise from outside. Poor acoustics in the classrooms.

Overall very good quality!
City/place
Beautiful city that we already knew. Public transport is generally good, but sometimes a VERY long wait. Florence is not cheap (but which city is), in the center even really expensive, but if you go more to the suburbs it is doable. Groceries are more expensive than in the Netherlands. And with regard to safety: PAY ATTENTION -> there are plenty of pickpockets!
Quality of teaching / language progress
The teachers were fantastic: very expressive in their explanations in Italian so you could understand everything. In addition, very friendly, sociable and patient. Nothing but praise for the administration and reception: 5 stars! The classroom in which our lessons took place was essentially unsuitable: a long pipe drawer so that as students you could only sit next to each other and therefore couldn't see each other, which is not conducive to conversation. We did not participate in the afternoon activities.

We have not extended our course because we do not actually use Italian any further. Due to circumstances we have to learn Spanish. Unfortunately ABC does not do this otherwise we would certainly have done it at one of their schools.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Silvia is both a teacher and tour guide. Don't miss one of her tours. She studied art so she will point out things in paintings and frescoes that not everyone sees.
Other comments
The teachers are excellent, patient, knowledgeable and energetic. They also are the best sources for local tips and to see Italian mannerisms (ie hand gestures) in action.
City/place
Florence has always been a beautiful multi-faceted city. Saturday crowds in the centre are like those at Disneyworld. It is over-touristed, which the locals accept with tired grace. Everyone switches into English. So a student of Italian gets less chance to practice. One has to look for out of the way places to speak to locals in Italian.

I loved the school! I liked that grammar classes take place separately. Julia perfectly explained Passato Remoto; I had a vague idea about this tense before, but now I understand the system. And the conversational practice with Sylvia was interesting - we had to invent something and even draw! Unfortunately, we studied only for 4 days as we combined the New Year holidays and the course. Of course, I would like to come and study for a longer period, and I hope I will some day. It was also nice to work at a large common table, in Salerno and in Rome we sat on chairs. The staff is really friendly and nice. I really liked the school.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
In July, when it's really hot in Florence, the classes are smaller and the town is filled almost only with the tourists, while during the other seasons the classes are bigger and the number of students is greater, however, Florence is less like a place for tourists and easier to see how it really is. The choice is yours, honestly I did prefer the smaller classes :)
