Lessons in the mornings and afternoons naturally limit free time and therefore also activities. Day trips such as to Monaco, Arle etc. are only possible at the weekend. Helpful as a combination to get back into the language because it is very intensive. But also exhausting.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Most teachers are friendly and try to involve students in lessons. There are many oral activities that encourage learning.
Negative aspects
The organisation of International House was problematic from the beginning. Students who have extra classes are tried to reduce the classes from 2 days (6 extra hours) to only 1 day (3 extra hours) without reimbursement. This was not only asked of me in the first week by the head of the centre but also in the second week.
I did not feel that I received satisfactory answers and appropriate feedback. When I was motivated to do additional homework I felt judged and as if they were not willing to give me activities to do at home if I asked for them.
Organised trips were few (2 a week, but 1 was the Nice tour for newcomers). The other trip they offered to Antibes was quite expensive for just the train ticket and was a rushed tour. Additionally the brochure at the reception said that they would give us our individual train ticket so that we could return whenever we wanted. In reality they bought tickets in groups and if you wanted to stay longer you had to buy your own ticket to return.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
It is better to live in a flat on your own. The school gives you a student ticket which allows you to enter many museums free of charge.
Other comments
In general, it lacks a lot of organisation.
City/place
Nice is very well located as it is about halfway between Monaco and Cannes. Public transport works quite well and in general it is a nice city. Nice is not very clean as you could find dog shit in many corners or rubbish on the ground. Although it is a bit more expensive than most of France, you can always find cheaper places if you look for them. The weather is generally pleasant although it is very hot in July and August. Nice is safe during the day but at night it is uncomfortable to walk the streets alone.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The teachers did not seem to want to teach in the afternoons.
Accommodation
The flat is very well located. It is very easy to get to the beach, take the tram or walk to school. The family was very friendly and showed me a few places in the region. The meals were very simple and repetitive (e.g. they brought out the same broccoli 4 days in a row or the fruit was not in good condition). The room we paid for was a single room, however I stayed in a room for 4 people with 2 bunk beds. The light in the room did not work and no towels were provided. The bathroom door could not be locked.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The school is well located, has ample space, and air-conditioned and adjustable classrooms.
Negative aspects
As people arrive all the time and I started in the first week of January, they immediately put me in a class that didn't correspond to my level, but after talking to the coordinator, I was placed in another class.
City/place
In winter the climate is mild, and the city is very safe and full of cultural attractions and tours to discover the landscape that surrounds it. Sensational!
Quality of teaching / language progress
Teacher Lorette is excellent! I loved her.
Accommodation
The accommodation was very close to the school. My host mother received me and placed me in a clean and tidy room. It has everything you need. In addition, she was very kind. The meals provided were of excellent quality and she was always with me at the table, which enriched the learning experience as we talked a lot and I got to practice a lot. It was the best surprise of the trip, it couldn't have been better.

Some teachers were excellent, while others were poor. I was there for four weeks and had a different teacher each week. Also, while I signed up for a group course, the first two weeks I was alone. I do appreciate that the school made every effort to accommodate me despite the difficult coronavirus situation.

Keep in mind that on arrival you will be charged 20 euros for a textbook that you can return and collect money at the end of your studies. Or keep a textbook if you want to continue studying.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The school is just great! A lot of students from different parts of the world, amazing teachers and most importantly, there is a super school director who speaks pretty good Russian xD
Classes are held either early in the morning or after lunch. The school seems to have 8 classes and they are all of different sizes. Some classes are spacious and comfortable but there are tiny rooms where it is very difficult to move.
Nobody speaks Russian at the reception, although there was a Russian-speaking guy there the first week, though then he disappeared somewhere ...

It was possible to take one of the public transport bikes but it was a 10 minute walk to get to them. Then a 10 min bike ride to the school. I am used to biking and walking a lot so this was not a problem for me but I could see it being a problem for other students.
The family was very nice and provided fine meals.

I liked the small classroom size and the multi-national background of the students. Although many of them had been studying together for weeks, I was immediately accepted into the group. I felt that my placement into the B1 group was appropriate for my skill level. I was only enrolled for one week, but at the end of the felt that my oral comprehension had definitely improved. I will definitely re-enrol when my travels next take me to Nice.

Though they had activities for the kids, the class wasn't French immersion. They spoke in English and French. So my kids did not notice any French that was spoken as they were tune into the English when spoken. They did not learn any French as we hoped.

They might have more social activities for slightly older people - but then, maybe they don't get many of those. There is a tendency for homestays not to offer particularly nice food, but then, the charge is relatively low so this isn't too much of an issue.

They merged my class with a lower class and the level became very easy. After a week when it returned to the correct level it was still a lot lower than it had been previously. I felt that I wasted two weeks learning things I had already learnt and therefore went up a class when I felt I wasn't ready. I recommend that the school monitor people's levels more and inform the classes they have the options to go higher if they are going to merge classes.

Other comments
The library has some lacks. More computer would have been needed in the main social room. Also the social activities are quite horrible and poorly orchestrated. But aside from that, the teachers and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I would suggest to take the afternoon classes since they are the most beneficial for those who are seriously interested in improving their French. If you are unhappy wiht your host family, I would suggest putting in a request for a change as soon as possible. Mine was not very pleasant but most of the students I spoke with had very nice families.

Negative aspects
I was disappointed that my initial email of introduction was not sent to the host family and so they didn't know when I was supposed to arrive etc. Living in Kenya, it was the only way to communicate AND the school said they would have passed the info along since the family was not on the internet.
