Positive aspects of school
Very positive atmosphere.
Negative aspects
The textbooks are not very good. Often incorrect translations. In addition, the placement test was not targeted. I was placed far too low, which was also confirmed by the teachers.

Positive aspects of school
I was in a small group and our teacher was great. She emphasised communication above all. The afternoon activities on offer were OK, but I would have liked more activities with less expense when travelling. The pick-up from the airport worked really well. The introduction was good. There are also some older students.
Negative aspects
The Wi-Fi didn't work when there were too many students. The classrooms are usually very small and the chairs are not really comfortable.
City/place
A beautiful city with a lot of history
Quality of teaching / language progress
It was fun because we spoke a lot

Positive aspects of school
Nice staff and helpful. The quality of the lessons was good. Especially my group lessons. The quality of the private lessons was also ok. Good location of the school. Antigua is beautiful.
Negative aspects
The distribution into 2 buildings is not ideal, as building 1 is much nicer than building 2 (where my courses were), but this is probably due to the conditions/space available on site. But it's not a major drawback.
Quality of teaching / language progress
A lot but useful.

Positive aspects of school
I have a very positive experience with Maximo Nivel. The contact is very accessible. They offer very nice activities to speak Spanish in addition to the lessons in a fun way with students from Guatemala and to meet other travelers. The teachers are very nice and help you with all your questions. I learned a lot of Spanish in 2 weeks. Great experience!
Other comments
Very nice school!
City/place
I think Antigua is a very nice city. There is a lot of security which makes me feel safe as a solo female traveler. There are many sights, activities, restaurants, entertainment options (until 1:00) and a beautiful volcano hike!
Quality of teaching / language progress

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
We had a great two weeks in Antigua. Languagecourse.Net helped us quickly and easily with questions and concerns.
Negative aspects
We booked a hostel room. We cannot recommend this as you have no control over the options. We ended up in a room without a window right in a pub with loud music until midnight and not much to do. We then changed rooms at our own expense, but were reimbursed by the school for the cost of the hostel in Maximo Nivel credits. There would also have been the option of moving into a host family, but we didn't want to do that.

Positive aspects of school
The school is very well organised and all the staff is very friendly and helpful. The location in the centre of Antigua is also great. You feel very well looked after.
Negative aspects
It would be nice if the school offered free coffee/tea as well as free water - especially important during the warm season in Guatemala.
Other comments

Positive aspects of school
Great teachers, small groups, great organisation even beyond the lessons. From pick-up to my last day, I was looked after very nicely. Thank you for that.
Negative aspects
A water dispenser would be great.
Other comments
The school is a little American-heavy, but there are worse things. The school as a whole makes up for it.
City/place
Very touristy
Quality of teaching / language progress
The combination is great. The group lessons took place in the mornings and there was always something to laugh at. It was not a dull frontal lesson, but was varied. The private lessons were great, with individual attention.
Accommodation
It felt more like an Airbnb or the like. The bathroom was unfortunately not cleaned once during the week.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
I was highly satisfied with my teachers. Professional teaching and manner. As a result, I was very satisfied with the quality of the teaching.
Negative aspects
For the placement test, I would have liked a neutral text - nothing historical, nothing religious. That way, the text would have been easier for me to understand and the grading would have been different. I was already slightly underchallenged in my group. However, I was immediately given the opportunity to change to a higher course. I stayed because it was good to have a refresher. The pace was too slow for me personally in my group. But as I said, I would have had the opportunity to change immediately.
Other comments
Absolutely recommendable! Equally the affiliated travel agency. A bit more expensive than other agencies, but the service here is personal and super, there were no difficulties at all. The two in the combination are really unbeatable.
City/place
I gave 5 all around because I personally lacked for nothing. Restaurants, cafés, bars, bakeries and salsa bars abound in the pretty old town. At the market, you could buy everything from A to Z. Expensive fashion clothes aren't really my thing anyway, so I'm absolutely satisfied with the service here too. There are also plenty of excursion options. A great place to learn Spanish and Salsa.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Due to the law in Hessen for educational leave, I unfortunately could only take the combination of 20 group lessons + 10 private lessons. Otherwise I would have taken 4 private lessons a day.
Accommodation
Between accommodation and school - 15 minutes walk to school. Far from the main road or thoroughfares. Perfect for me. Jessica cooked something new and typical every day. That's how we got to know Guatemalan food. Always delicious. It was a bit cold at night. A thicker or extra blanket would be desirable for the next person. I didn't say anything as I had dressed appropriately warm at night. Fantastic view from the terrace of Volcan del Fuego, whose ashes can be seen during the day and fire in the dark. Own entrance to the house and the rooms - accordingly great privacy. This is what absolutely distinguishes this host. SUPER!

Positive aspects of school
Price-performance ratio was super. The quality of the teaching was very high. I also thought it was great that a test was conducted on the very first day to determine the language standard. The administration is very keen and I really enjoyed it. I had super teachers who were very motivated and always very prepared. The group size was great (we were about 6 students). I have to say that my Spanish course helped me a lot and I learned a lot (even though it was sometimes exhausting, but in a positive way). I would do it again (maybe even longer next time?)).
Negative aspects
The schedule of the private lessons (which I was personally assigned to). My group lessons were from 9am to 1pm, but my private lessons were from 4pm to 6pm (I also had to do homework, so there wasn't much time for relaxation). I was therefore unable to take part in almost any of the afternoon activities offered by the school. The Salsa course (once a week) took place at 6pm, which means that without a break between Spanish and Salsa classes, it's a bit long.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
If possible, extend the course by another week (if you feel like it), otherwise add at least 1-2 weeks for a holiday in Guatemala (since unfortunately you can't see much during the 30 hours of Spanish per week).
Other comments
Super school, I would recommend it mainly because of the quality-price ratio and the location.
City/place
Antigua has already become very touristy. One has noticed the rise in prices (I was there before), especially in restaurants. In the vicinity of Antigua or outside, it is much cheaper. However, there are possibilities to eat somewhere "cheaper" - but it is also nice to have the "comfort". There are many things to do in Antigua, both inside and outside the city (though not during classes, as these are more like half-day or full-day excursions). Everything is within walking distance (SUPER!), otherwise you can quickly take a cheap Uber. As a woman, you are also safe on your own in the evenings. As for the cleanliness: it is rather the air that is not clean. There were some who had respiratory problems (nose is always "full or closed", coughing etc.) - i.e. not recommended for asthmatics (but not a knock-out criteria).
Quality of teaching / language progress
Perfect for an educational leave programme - I learned a lot that I can use in my everyday life.

Positive aspects of school
I felt very well looked after and well advised from the very beginning, from booking the course to the welcome at the school and host family to the lessons with excellent teachers. It was a great learning environment, I had a contact person at all times and both the school and the family were always keen to make my stay a very special experience. Definitely a school I would recommend to friends and family. Thank you so much!!! I had a wonderful time with very wonderful and helpful people in Guatemala! A great country!
Other comments
I personally found the placement test not quite appropriate. Of course, it was only a rough assessment, but I still found the text, for example, which covered a historical topic, too specific. For a comprehension text in a test, I would have liked a more general topic. For me personally, the placement in my course was good the way it was, but in some cases a change from one group to another may have to be made.
City/place
Antigua is a very relaxed and modern small town with great excursion possibilities, numerous restaurants and small, sometimes extravagant cafés + bars and above all very hospitable locals. The people are so chilled and approachable at all times, you really feel at home and even after dusk you don't have to worry.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I really liked both teachers and took them to my heart, they were so open-minded and warm, we laughed a lot and had great fun. It was a pleasure to learn with them.
Accommodation
My room was small but nice (unfortunately without a window) with a bathroom next door, which was only available to me and two other students. We had an extra entrance separate to the house entrance with a terrace and a view of the volcanoes. Simply wonderful! Our hostess cooked wonderfully, very varied and also accommodated my request for vegetarian alternatives. She was very warm and sat down at the table with us to chat and make conversation. I would love to stay with her again anytime. Many thanks also to her and family.

Super location, great garden and roof terrace. The staff are very eager and take care of every question, even outside of the school. The quality of the teaching is super. There is no "rushing through", but topics are intensively practised and repeated. With 3 people in my group, it was very instructive.

I was told all teachers had education degrees, that was a lie. I was told all material (books) were supplied, that was a lie too because they charged me for the second book! I have been to other immersion schools and this one was by far the worst.

The accommodation was more of a construction site, as it will also be used as a guest house in the future. The room was a little dirty, especially the walls and I had a dead cockroach in the bed ...

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
There was a Spanish teacher named Sandra who taught us in the pre-intermediate class in a very excellent and professional way. I missed the opportunity to greet her when I left the school. I want to greet her now and thank you very much.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
I recommend to students to learning Spanish at Maximo Nivel. I am certain that Maximo Nivel will give you a high level of teaching Spanish.
Other comments
Many thanks to the people in charge of the international office of Maximo Nivel. They are very kind and they helped me a lot, especially thanks to Kelly.
City/place
I am certain that Antigua is one of the cities which is very safe. There are many restaurants, cafes, shops, laundries, bakeries and etc., so it is very convenient not only for students but for tourists too.
Quality of teaching / language progress
I had three Spanish teachers at school. It depends on the teachers, their Spanish teaching skills were different. Someone was very excellent, but someone was a little low.
Accommodation
The first room was very bad, because there was no sunlight all day and the temperature inside the room was very low. The room was as cold as a wine cellar! After sleeping for three nights, I changed to another room that was a bit more comfortable.

The first house of Marta was terrible. She served us rotten food which was left in the kitchen for two days. The bathroom was full of mold. She never changed our bed sheet. She made a bad impression of Guatemala. The second house of Elubia was perfect. The wifi connection was perfect. The location of the house was also perfect. The food was also nice and healthy. She often chatted with us and corrected our grammar and vocabulary errors. I was really happy and felt comfortable and safe with her family. I would like to stay with her family again if I have a chance.

The homestay was no homestay, just a room with half board. I only saw the host mother once a day, her children and her husband were not even introduced. So for me a financial loss, in a hostel I would have spoken just as much Spanish if not more and would have paid a lot less
