Additional information
Positive aspects of school
- It is possible to change levels. - It is interactive, everyone is encouraged to speak and take on tasks. - The teachers all speak very clearly and at a good speed - The tasks and topics are very varied. The programme changes every week. - Requests are catered for during the lessons (e.g. repetition of grammar) - Lessons in small groups
Negative aspects
It would have been cool to get more information on grammar. However, you can easily find this online.
Other comments
The team is super friendly. I thought it was very cool that everyone introduced themselves at the beginning and you really get the feeling that they also remember all the names and faces. They cater to individual wishes and try to organise your trip as well as possible.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Completely sufficient. I would recommend extending a week rather than choosing the intensive course. This gives you more time to explore the city.

Positive aspects of school
+ central location + on request, alternating morning and afternoon lessons made possible (instead of only afternoon lessons) + teachers and people are very nice + many leisure activities
Negative aspects
I hope that they will implement weekly morning and afternoon classes, and not only afternoon classes, as we had previously thought; at our insistence, they were kind enough to change it. I would have been very happy to have a room that was accessible for breaks. We always had to go out to eat. (But that's rather harsh criticism now). The rooms could be a bit bigger, we were sometimes very cramped in the room.

Positive aspects of school
I spent 15 weeks at Accent Francais in Montpelier from Sept-Dec. The staff and the teachers were all wonderful. David was my teacher for morning classes the whole time and I’m very glad he was. He’s SO patient with all the newbies and eager to teach new skills, too. Great sense of humor and excellent teaching techniques. Marie was my afternoon teacher and was able to be both structured in her teaching and personable with the students. I really enjoyed her classes. Virginia, the director, was open to feedback, and fun to be around. The school is small in terms of actual square footage, but provided what we needed. I really loved my time there.
Negative aspects
As I mentioned to the director, I would've appreciated a more structured approach to the syllabus shared with the students. It would be helpful to have a syllabus that lets us know what we would be covering each week/day and what overall competencies we should expect with each level achievement. That would make any changes such as a teacher out sick, etc., seamless as then any substitute could just refer to the syllabus and continue the planned lessons.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Your progress will depend (in my opinion) on your personal desire and dedication to continuing your learning outside the classroom.
Other comments
I would recommend this school because of the overall atmosphere of friendliness, location, and quality of the teachers.
City/place
Montpellier is GREAT! I would love to return!
Quality of teaching / language progress
I took 25 weeks of the intensive (morning and afternoon) classes. At times -- as a beginner -- I felt overwhelmed without enough time to process all the new info daily. In hindsight, I think it would've been better for me to start with just the morning classes and then taken on adding afternoon classes once I had a basic grasp of things.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
very well organised and teachers were professional, friendly and very patient.
Negative aspects
The very broad mixture of ages in the class was at times difficult, especially for the teacher. I purposefully chose a class outside of northern hemisphere vacation hoping that I would avoid a majority of school aged students, but I was mistaken. Most students were still teenagers. Those on programs organised by their schools basically behaved like it was a school excursion and did not appear interested at all. Their constant chatting and inattention was challenging and the topics of practice conversation were limited to a much younger age group. Nevertheless, the teachers were clearly experienced in dealing with this type of behaviour and managed well. I would have much preferred a class of somewhat more mature students, but I can imagine that just depends on who has enrolled for that week.
Other comments
There are many language schools in Montpelier and it is difficult to know which to choose. Accent Francais was very efficient and professional. The location is great - just opposite the main train station, and very close to all the wonderful sights and experiences in Montpelier. The teachers were terrific and clearly well trained and experienced. The experience with the school students I described was not isolated to Accent Francais. It was a common complaint from students from other language schools in Montpelier (whom I met in the cooking classes). Obviously these school programs provide good business to the language schools, but perhaps there is a time of year when there are far less school students which could be advertised? Please note that I am a high school teacher. I completely understand adolescent and school trip behaviour and these students were just acting as any other young people do away from home.
City/place
Absolutely beautiful! easy to get around and so much to see and do.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The cooking course was amazing and just so much fun. The students came from a variety of language schools across Montpelier and a huge variety of nations. The chef teacher was fantastic and so patient. There were lots of laughs and the food we cooked was, somewhat surprisingly given our skill level, delicious.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
My host family was excellent. We spoke every evening during dinner, which I really appreciated. I spoke more at home than in class. The teacher was good, but not the best I have ever had. I also liked the cooking classes.
Negative aspects
I liked the teachers in the cooking classes, but the number of students was excessive, about 20 give or take. This meant that the work/meal was divided between smaller groups, each responsible for a part of the whole meal. I understand that, but the first day, I chopped some vegetables, measured the weight of some ingredients on the scale, and watched others do their tasks. I took a cooking class in Lyon a few years ago. There were 7 of us and it was about right. In that class we all heard the instructions for each dish. In THIS course, each group was focused on their own part and couldn’t focus on any other parts of the dish. While I liked that there were students from 3 language schools in Montpellier, perhaps a less ambitious meal and a choice of time slots would be better for all to lear cooking techniques and theory.
City/place
It’s nice enough and was to get to nearby places, despite the train strike (which I have had to deal with every single time I have been in France).

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
The variety of countries the students came from and a few older students. The additional afternoon course was very good for both teachers and students.
Negative aspects
All of my classmates were quite dissatisfied with the course, as we had three different teachers in one week in the basic course, and the teaching style and atmosphere varied from teacher to teacher. Some teachers were easy to understand and made the class exciting, others were not at the learner's level and their lessons were not interesting, and still, others were not familiar with the technology in the classroom and spent a lot of time wasting our time on it. The school's rule of " No late arrivals over 10 minutes" was not respected at all. Some of the students were on social networking sites all the time during class. I am sorry to say that I will never go to this school again.
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
The level of teachers varies, so you should not expect too much. Also, in the summer, there are too many students, and the reception desk cannot keep up with the workload, so you should be prepared for explanations on the first day to be sketchy and a lot of waiting time.
Other comments
I was a little disappointed when I participated in this school 5 years ago because of the difference in the level of the teachers, but this time I found it to be even worse. It may be that there is a shortage of teachers due to COVID, etc., but I expect that the teachers should be of a certain level or higher since I paid high tuition fees to take classes in France (the teachers at my school in Japan were definitely of a higher level).
City/place
The city is lovely and fun to stroll around, and there are many different types of stores. I recommend this place as it is easy to get to from Paris by TGV.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The Intensive Course seemed to have a high goal-oriented atmosphere for both students and teachers, and I am glad I was able to attend.

Quality of teaching / language progress
More unclear than in other schools. I knew teaching could be in the afternoon. My classes were between 16.15-19.30 which I perceive more as afternoon/evening. The cultural program means that you pay for part of the general activity program in advance. I thought it was a specific program. I also couldn't take part in all the activities because it was at the same time as my classes.
Accommodation
Confusing information. Problems with the deposit. Couldn't get into the house at first because I didn't understand it had a magnetic lock. They charged 50 EUR as I had not cleaned well enough. They wrote that one could contact them if something was not right. I wanted to find out what they were not happy with. No answer, they also deducted the money directly from my account without waiting for my answer.

If someone at this location was taking evening classes even taking the tram as close as it could get you would still be greater than 25 minutes by foot. It would be great if, when assigning accommodations, hosts and students were given a survey of their habits and desires. Someone who isn't social or doesn't want to stay in the city late would have no problem with this location. However, there were numerous times I had to uber home because the bus wasn't running and it was too late to feel safe walking the 25 minutes in the deserted streets.

City/place
The city is beautiful, with a small old center. You can inspect everything in 3-4 days. There are two buses to the beach nearby. The beach is gorgeous, better than in Nice, very similar to the beaches in Goa, in India, where there is a place for everyone. The sea is calm. There are a lot of strange people (young Frenchmen) in the city on the streets, such as homeless people with dogs, asking for money. Sometimes you get the impression of a slightly dirty city. I was not returning home late and had no problems.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The school is excellent, I recommend it to everyone! Great prices, great school location in the center of Montpellier. Every day, some events are organized for students, which allow you to learn more about the city, as well as get to know other students better. The teachers are all young and very energetic, a lot of materials are used, both written, and oral, and video. The only negative after all, 6-7 people in the group are a bit too much, 1.5 hours pass quickly, the teacher can sometimes be distracted for a long time by the question of one of the students, or sometimes it takes a long time to wait for a student who thinks slower. The teacher often did not have time to teach what was planned. Individual lessons are of course very expensive. If your language level is above average, ask several times which group you will be placed in and the knowledge students will have there, so as not to be placed in a lower level. As I noticed, for a higher level of language, the school has problems defining the right group. But in general I am very pleased that I chose this particular school. I enjoyed it a lot!
Accommodation
The accommodation is just super !!! The hostess is a sweet and very kind woman! It was very interesting to talk with her, she has a great sense of humor. She met me at the airport, paid for the fare, got back with me at 5.30 in the morning, took me to the station and also paid for the fare. The room is beautiful, clean and bright. Breakfast is of course French, small but adequate. The location is fantastic, 5 minutes from school at a fast pace.

I had an amazing experience.. As I've mentioned before everything was much better than I thought. It's not very easy to go to a new country where you don't know what you will find. The support that I got from the school staff and my teachers was great.

Thanks for such a great experience. I rate the school 10 out of 10 because it was great and I loved the school and the atmosphere from my first day to my last day. Super thanks to everyone that has made it so enjoyable....
City/place
Well the school location is Amazing, just in the heart of the city in the way that I've imagined, surrounded by very French 18 century Palace Particulaire that I love. Public transport to get into the school from where I was living was great and very efficient.
Quality of teaching / language progress
Well, it was such great experience, and now I can see how I've improved my French languages skills. School staff are Amazing, Great and very professional. What should I say about all the teachers that I had?? Amazing, 10 out of 10. And one of the best things so far last year was deciding to go to Accent Français, it was Amazing, and I cant wait to be back in September.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
Unfortunately, I stayed there only for one week. You'd better book at least a 2-4 weeks course. You fully immerse in the environment, the adaptation process takes 3-4 days. In my case, I just got used to it and I had to go back. You can extend the courses , but my time was limited. This is a city of students, very beautiful, modern, located on the shores of the Mediterranean, which can be reached directly by tram. Lots of impressions! I'm very grateful to my host, Alda. She helped a lot with the language, she spoke French all the time and explained the things I didn't understand in other French words. Thanks to her, I immersed into the French atmosphere completely!

Positive aspects of school
Best thing about this school - apart from it being in Montpellier, which is a great town, beautiful, relaxed and friendly - was the teachers, who are excellent and very sympathique. The other people in my class (B2 level) were great too, and their average level of French was very good, which I think must have been at least in part due to the quality of the teaching at this school, which several of them had been attending for some time. There is a fairly strong emphasis on speaking, which I liked a lot because that is the hardest of the four macro skills to master, and it's certainly the one I needed most help with. Writing is not neglected either.
Other comments
Only problem here was the organisation of the accommodation: I had requested "Chez l'habitant, chambre avec accès cuisine" but was placed in a shared appartment (collocation) with other foreign students, who all spoke English to me. But the school's admin staff were very responsive and quickly placed me in a more suitable home. On the whole, the school seemed quite well organised. I was particularly impressed by their emphasis on students being punctual and making sure that classes always start on time.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
I did not know in advance what the format of my course was to be. Likewise I did not know it was to be in the afternoon only. The Monday morning session was a waste for me.
Other comments
I did not get any indication as to my standard of French or advice on how to proceed with my future studies.

Response from school
Merci Frank for your feedback, thank you very much ! Your comment helped us a lot to improve our service, now students received their course schedule when they arrive on Monday morning and this is thanks to you :-)

The only thing which I was disappointed in was on my last day, the teacher was absent and she was not replaced. I feel when paying quite a lot of money for a course that there should be a substitute teacher employed by the school in the case of absence.

Response from school
Merci Gavin, thanks for posting your feedback here, I can understand you were disappointed. It is very hard for us to organize a substitute teacher last minute, but we will work on that of course.

Teachers had good personalities. The tour of the town and excursions were good, as was the film.
Other comments
I felt the tuition could have been more focused, e.g. introduction of certain grammatical structures, with drilling and rehearsal with a view to mastery. Though enjoyable and in an encouraging atmosphere, there wasn't a sense of making real progress. Friendly atmosphere, with hard-working staff though.

Insider tips about what future students should not miss
They use photocopies instead of workbooks. They claim this is because of the "individual student" but that's not believable.
Other comments
They work on a strict schedule instead of at the individual student's level. If you believe you should be in a higher level, they ask you which one instead of re-evaluating you. It's disappointing for the money I've spent. Also, they should group students as adults and teens including their level as it's hard to study with the teens.

Response from school

The school should communicate better with the host families. My host family in fact did not know I was coming. And the homes should be visited/checked occasionally. Because I was a bit put off by the SMALL apartment and it wasn't very clean either. And I heard more bad than good things from my classmates (regarding the host families) - which is a pity, after all you pay good money for it.

Montpellier is very nice and walkable and many restaurants are out of this world good. One thing everyone should be aware of is that parking is an absolute, complete and awful nightmare. On the other hand, you want a car to explore (l'espiguette, pic st loup, cevennes, sete, etcetcetc).

I'm really unhappy with the school. It wasn't what I expected. The course wasn't organised as an intensive course but as an annual school program and the student just joins in during the week they are in and that's it.The learning pace is too relaxed in relation to the cost of the course. They do not take the level of the student into account, the level mix is too wide so that students with higher knowledge of the language cannot learn anything. When the class had a smaller number of people they didn't accept personal suggestions to improve the students' needs. The classes in the afternoon were a total waste of time. We would just write while the teacher chatted on the phone. As you can imagine, there is no point going abroad to learn a language if it is going to be like this.
Other comments
I really didn't like it, I have already explained why on the previous section. I am a teacher myself so I know what I am talking about. The course was too expensive for the actual content.
