Istanbul is a very interesting city. However, it is not really recommended for people with heart conditions because it is constantly going up and down, which is very exhausting.

The teachers are very good and especially very sweet. The classes are small, so you get a lot of attention. You can get a cup of tea during your break and chat with classmates. You learn a lot in a short time.

Istanbul is the best city on earth. It is hip, free and has all kinds of people. Istanbul is an open air museum, wherever you go you will see beautiful and interesting things. Every district is different, you can never get enough of Istanbul.

I would like to praise the excellent organization before and during my stay. There was always someone to talk to if I had any questions or challenges. The central location of the school was also very convenient. The lessons are taught exclusively in Turkish with English assistance. The teachers were all very helpful and open. Shoukran to Emine :-)

Negative aspects

Unfortunately, there were no organized excursions. But this is set to change in the future. I had 4 weeks of lessons and found the pace very fast. I would book individual lessons next time.

Istanbul is a fascinating city with a mix of tradition and modernity. There are many sights, great walking districts, lots of helpful people and a great public transport network. Unfortunately, the euro has also arrived here and many things have become expensive.

4x 45 minutes are really highly recommended

From day 1, I was included in the everyday life of my host family and was treated like a member of the family. It helped me to better understand and learn the mentality and the language. I had my own bedroom and living room with a bathroom and could retreat here at any time or plan my day independently of the family. I would recommend a host family to anyone who wants to get to know the language and everyday life.

The lessons were professional and extremely fun and enjoyable. I have already reached a B1/B2 level and was able to build on this thanks to my lovely teacher Şeyma. We quickly decided that I should learn everyday Turkish and not work with textbooks at all, but spend the whole morning having conversations. This is challenging for both the teacher and the student. Şeyma found just the right amount of challenge and support - but after 2 weeks I was really exhausted. Aysel (hanim), who provides the students with tea and coffee during the numerous breaks and always has a friendly word for everyone at every language level, is also very kind.

Negative aspects

The school does not offer any excursions or tips for excursions. However, Şeyma was very helpful when I asked and explained to me where I could find Domuş and how to get to Üsküdar.

Great teacher Şeyma. She taught me a lot of everyday Turkish and we talked a lot about the country and its people, about social change in Turkey, the position of women in the countryside and in the city, etc.

Accommodation

The host family is very nice. Mum Ayşe had to work 6 days a week and on the 7th day she didn't rest, but cleaned her flat and did laundry - including mine. The neighbourhood - Kağithane - seems to have never heard of tourism; it is just as originally Turkish as I had imagined. The family is really nice and uncomplicated and I had dinner with Ayşe every evening and we chatted for an hour over tea afterwards.

I had a really wonderful time at the school. The lessons were very informative and at a pleasant pace, so you really understood everything. Even when I had questions outside of school hours, I always got an immediate answer via WhatsApp. The teachers and staff in particular made sure that every student was really happy there. I always felt welcome and really enjoyed my time there. I would come back again and again and can recommend the school to anyone!!!

I attended the Turkish course at Royal Turkish Schools in Taksim, Istanbul, from September 11th to September 29th, 2023, and I am extremely pleased with my experience. Despite having no prior knowledge of Turkish, I was able to make significant progress in a very short time. This achievement is credited to the outstanding teachers who not only possess impressive expertise but are also full of energy and competence. A special thanks to "Elif," who played a crucial role in our learning journey. The speed at which I was able to learn in this course pleasantly surprised me. I never thought I would achieve so much in such a short period. For this reason, I wholeheartedly recommend Royal Turkish Schools. Don't hesitate; this school is truly excellent!

Super lessons, super nice and qualified teachers. In addition, there was water, tea and coffee till the cows come home. I don't know about the afternoon activities because I didn't ask. But I know that the students made plans with each other.

I liked the ferry rides best, and apart from that I walked around a lot and found Orhan Pamuk's museum very imaginative. As a solo traveller, I had no problems at all going out to eat. However, I can't say anything about the nightlife...

The most important thing is that if you want to learn a language, you need more than 4 times 45 minutes a day. This should be extended, even if it is more expensive. But it should be longer than 4 hours in one course. But if you want to have fun, see Istanbul and make friends, sure that's different, then it's all good.

I really liked the school, it's conveniently located, pleasant atmosphere, young talented teachers, individual approach to everyone. Despite the non-core direction of the English language, personal training was carried out, since there was not enough of the group, as well the school even allowed to pay on arrival. There is an opportunity to live in a host family or in a separate apartment. Only positive emotions, I recommend the school.

Hospitable, friendly city, lots of stores and entertainment catering to all tastes and wallets. Fairly safe place - there is an active life until 1 am in the tourist part of the center, some stores are open, a lot of police, but no disturbances. Historical monuments, museums, parks, a city with a very convenient public transportation system. Fresh air, sunny weather and friendly people create an unforgettable atmosphere of joy and pleasure. Depending on the time of year, it is possible to visit the nearby islands to enjoy a beach holiday.

I spent four weeks with Rumeysa in a one-to-one programme. She taught me with a lot of patience and fun. She also gave me a cultural understanding of Turkey. Rumeysa is a very cheerful, nice and intelligent young woman. I can only recommend the course.

Slightly slow learning pace of the programme. I signed up for an intensive course, but didn't get an intensive learning speed. In 4 weeks, very few grammar rules were studied.

Did not match the intensity, slow learning of the programme The teacher starts repeating the rules for students who joined later, as if making privileges for latecomers. It was illogical. I had to sit and be bored while the teacher repeated the already learnt material material to the new student. And I was wasting time while I could have mastered more.

Istanbul is a huge city with an enormous history. There are a lot of sights, beaches and night life is not neglected either.

Rooms are not always 100% clean. Bit disorganized. But the staff are very nice. Okay for the night, but if you spend more time in your room, you don't feel 100% comfortable. There were no meals (but will be offered in the future), but there was fresh tea every time.

Istanbul location -- run down building and you need to be a heavy smoker to survive.

Unfortunately RTEC presents its school as something different on the website. The Istanbul school is located in easy reach when you use public transportation but it's in an old, run down building where everybody smokes in the hallways and rooms. Washrooms might be a shock. The Istanbul school is very small. 2 rooms and not very intriguing either. Some maintenance would help. Quality of class - it all depends on the teacher. My first week was good as I had a motivated, inspiring teacher (Banu). My second week was a pain in the neck although I was lucky to get private classes due to low student enrollment but the second teacher was not announced and it hit me surprise. As well her quality of teaching didn't bring me any further. I recommend a level test for all students so they will be in classified in the right level/class. For upcoming language studies I won't choose Royal Turkish Education Center anymore and also would not recommend it.
