Insider tips about what future students should not miss
The course is of no use if you go home after school and watch YouTube in your own language, I saw this with a friend and he made basically no progress. As a course participant, you shouldn't miss out on doing things with the others and on simply speaking English.
Other comments
I can only recommend it at the moment, although there is a big problem about a far too high payment in a friend's booking, where it is still unclear right now which party (school or residence) is asking for this unannounced extra payment.
City/place
With no other city do I have such a deep and everlasting connection. The city and everything that goes with it is an absolute blast if you can afford the increased prices, if you can deal with poverty, drugs, homeless people and rubbish, and if you can accept the local transport runs on practically no timetable.
Quality of teaching / language progress
The course brings a good mix of meaningful learning and lots of free time.
Accommodation
Super location, house okay, but unfortunately not really kept clean, meals varied. But: The Accommodation Profile that was sent to me does not come close to the truth. The letter suggests living in a homestay with city residents. This is not the case. Even the address of the house on the profile is wrong. The family owns 2 houses on opposite sides of the street. Thus, to my surprise, I was put in the other house immediately after my arrival. In all my time there, I never once saw the two sisters mentioned in the profile. Nestor I saw for the first time about the fourth week. He was out of town... also a point I would have liked to know beforehand so that I could be prepared. Overall, communication with the hosts was quite difficult, but this was hardly due to the language barrier in any way. The other house is reserved exclusively for students. There is no living room, only individual rooms for the students, which vary greatly in size and quality, a small dining area, a sink area and a shared bathroom. The only functional household items are a fridge and microwave. But these are points I was prepared for, I wasn't expecting 5 star luxury service, but due to the lack of communal living, problems arose with, for example, lack of heating, towels, drinking, milk, bread, Nutella and fruit. Unfortunately these were there throughout my stay and I always had the feeling that the family was only in it for the money. Everything is very much on the back burner and you could call it begging for days to get the heating turned on, for example. If you lived with the family, these problems would probably not exist. There is no encouragement from the host family to communicate with the students in any way or to facilitate a cultural exchange, although one might expect otherwise through the profile. Overall, I would like to see the family create a more truthful profile. Students who come to this family must expect to live together in a student residence. For me this was not such a big problem in the end in this respect because I always lived there with at least one other student, but if you have the misfortune to live alone in the house well... I would have liked to communicate with native speakers outside of school to increase learning progress, this was unfortunately not possible with the other students I met during my time because my English skills were higher than the others. The purpose of homestay, as I understand it, is not fulfilled in my eyes and I am definitely not alone in this opinion.
