Additional information
Positive aspects of school
Quality of teaching. Consistent high energy and great balance between focus areas (e.g. listening, conversation, grammar etc) and methods (role play, games, memory quizzes etc). All around amazing experience. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Negative aspects
Only recommendation I have is to better organize the handouts - titles / chapter numbers - binder separators.
City/place
Completely amazed us!!! Didn’t run out of things to explore in the 3 weeks we were there.

Positive aspects of school
I was there for 4 weeks and really loved my experience at Aula Azul and would definitely recommend it to others. All the teachers were fantastic and staff were super lovely. Lessons were fun and interesting and covered a range of themed topics, vocabulary, grammar and I learned a lot and got lots of speaking practise in the classes which I liked. I also recommend the private classes too as it's good to work on specific things you need more practise with and get more one on one support and speaking practice. They organised lots of activities; Sidraria in the old town, Queseria visit in the country, pinxos, language exchanges while I was there in August so it was great to meet other students and I met lots of really nice and interesting people from around the world of all ages. I wasn't sure if there would be other 30-somethings there but was presently surprised by how many were there at the same time so that was a nice surprise too. Location was amazing, very central and a couple minutes walk to the main beach. Perfect for an after class dip. They even gave me the opportunity to do an exam in the middle of my course to test my level across different areas and get feedback on the things I could improve which was very helpful.
Negative aspects
Nothing, wish I could have stayed longer
City/place
My favourite city in Spain! It is easily walkable to the main areas, 3 beaches all walkable from each other, in summer was nice temperatures, not too hot most days but still warm enough to want to swim at the beaches (both surf and calm bay beach) (though it rained for about a week out of the 4 weeks I was there), lots of bars, beautiful city and cool old town too. Some great day trips too to France (Biarritz, San Jean de Luz, Bayonne) and along the basque country coastline. mountains nearby. Loved it!
Accommodation
Lovely hosts (with added bonus of them having a dog) and a spacious bedroom with lots of storage and good shared kitchen to prepare my own meals. I liked being able to practise my spanish with native speakers the whole time too and they were very patient with me. Location was also great being in a quieter part of a super cool neighbourhood (as opposed to right in the old town which can be a bit noisy ive heard) and also close to the surf beach, supermakets and lots of pinxos bars etc. Every accomodation is different though so maybe I got lucky.

Positive aspects of school
Loved the teachers and teaching, location of the school was awesome, many classmates also paired their classes with surf in the afternoon and it seemed like an awesome time! Also recommend the private classes, they’re like a conversation that evolves with your level, although they are, of course, pretty tiring for the brain.
Negative aspects
Not loads of organized activities, but many students suggest activities on a daily basis, you just have to join.
City/place
Felt safe as a solo female traveler, loved the proximity to the beach and the mountains.

Additional information
Positive aspects of school
I liked the teachers and staff at the school best because they were all very nice and also very competent. I learned an incredible amount during my three weeks at the school, which was mainly due to my teacher, with whom I had a private lesson every day. In general, the teaching methods were very original and animating, and the time flew by. The location was very good, it was only two streets to the beach, so it was easy to go there directly after school or during the lunch break.
Negative aspects
Unfortunately, the school was not so well booked at the end of September/beginning of October and the groups were very small (usually only 2 people). As a result, there were hardly any social activities and you had little chance to get to know people. This was different at other schools in the town at the same time, but the classes were larger. All but one of the classrooms are underground, so you have neither daylight nor really good air. I wrote an exam there and sat in the basement for 3.5 hours and could hardly concentrate at the end....
Insider tips about what future students should not miss
As I said, I can recommend everyone to book at least some private lessons. Otherwise, there is the Intercambio every Tuesday, which is really fun and where you can use what you have learned.
City/place
The city is simply gorgeous! Nestled in a mountain landscape, with three beaches right in the centre. The sea offers many activities such as surfing, kayaking, stand-up paddling or swimming. The nightlife was also great, there are lots of young people and there's actually something going on every night, especially on Friday and Saturday, of course. The prices for beer and wine seemed very reasonable to me (about 1€ for a glass of beer, 1.50€ for a glass of wine), but you had to pay more for food. Overall, the locals made a very open and warm-hearted impression on me, and it was fun to talk to them once a week at the "intercambio de las lenguas".
Quality of teaching / language progress
I was very happy to have the one lesson of private tuition per day in addition to my normal course. The teacher there made a lot of effort to adapt the lessons to my individual needs and prepared me well for my exam.
Accommodation
Contrary to my expectations, you don't live with other language students, but with local people. It's a wonderful chance to practise your language skills alongside your lessons, but of course you sometimes feel a bit like an intruder because you're living in someone else's home. I was lucky enough to live with a really nice older lady in Gros, a very hip and central part of town. The flat and my room were very nice and I felt comfortable there.

I liked the landlady and the apartment in general. However, it could have been kept a little more tidy. My room was fine and tidy and bright although small. Location was just about 20 minutes' walk from school which I consider a max distance for comfort.

It’s quite a rainy city but a good size. I found a jazz club and three bars with open mike sessions to play in and a guitar school which were all within walking distance.
Quality of teaching / language progress
There were very small classes which were very well taught.
Accommodation
The owner was extremely helpful and liked to chat in Spanish. The room was good, with lovely views but noisy from traffic. I had to keep the windows closed at night and it got a bit hot. The bathroom serviced 4-5 people and there was no separate toilet.

Encourage students to participate in extra-curricular activities by presenting class activities and explaining the usefulness of these ones.
Other comments
I think that teachers should be more attentive to older students who have a little more hearing problems; give them more written exercises and reading and especially talk to them slowly in front of them. It was my case. I would have benefited more from my program if the school had acted like this with me. Thank you for the next ones.

Overall I had a great two weeks in San Sebastián thanks to the great staff at El Aula Azul who made everyone feel so welcome. The only very minor complaint I had is that some of the classes did not have air conditioning and could get quite hot on some days (although generally in San Sebastián that isn't a problem!). Overall though that didn't ruin my experience at all though and I'd highly recommend the school. Hopefully I'll be back next year!

Enthusiasm; professional teachers who knew their subject who on the whole are good at teaching Spanish as a foreign language
Other comments
There was an error. The school's website said I’d be sent a test before the course started. When I hadn’t received one, I emailed the intermediary at your organisation who replied I would be tested on arrival. I wasn’t. I was given a feedback form by the school on the Tuesday morning and I stated that perhaps, I was in too high a class. Anyway there were only 3 in the class and I felt that one of our 2 teachers needed to make more allowance for me. One of the 2 directors asked to discuss what I’d written on the feedback form. She said she had seen my test result and I was in the correct class but would talk to the teacher. On Wednesday morning, the director was very apologetic. They had not sent me a test. I have accepted compensation from the school which I feel is just but also generous. The full cost of the course is being reimbursed - paying for an extra 1 hour private lesson whilst I was there and there will be 4 Skype lessons. However, I haven’t had any further contact regarding these. I will contact them.
