Location: Spanish Language School Gran Canaria is located on the unique island of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Spain. The school is housed over three buildings within walking distance of each other, between the port and the beach area. Las Palmas (Canteras) beach is only a few meters away from the school, in an area of the city ripe with restaurants, eateries, entertainment and shopping.
Social and cultural: The school offers several activities weekly, with excursions to some of the island's most brilliant sites also taking place regularly. Guided tours to Vegueta and the old colonial quarter of the city are also regularly given by the school's teachers.
School facilities: The school facilities include a library, seven classrooms, a computer room with internet access, a lounge area and a terrace.
Course selection: In addition to General Spanish taught over various schedules and intensities and available to students of all levels, the school also supplies private and semi-private tuition courses. Bildersurlaub programmes for various German federal states may also be available with Spanish Language School Gran Canaria.
Accommodation: Studio and shared flat facilities are available to be booked through the school.

The Standard course delivered by Spanish Language School Gran Canaria consists of 20 lessons per week, at 50 minutes per lesson. Every group level uses their Aprendo Español course books (must be purchased separately), which provides a clear curriculum for students to follow throughout their time on the programme.
Your tuition fees will cover a variety of benefits, including: the placement test to determine your initial group, academic counselling, WiFi access, and discounts on car rentals and surfing courses.
The Course20 (standard course) consists of 20 tuition hours/week in general Spanish given Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm.
It is given all year round in levels A1, A2, B1 and B2.
*Level C1 is given from October to the end of March. This level is also given all year round as a private or semiprivate course.
Length of levels: 4 to 5 weeks. C1 consists of two blocks of 4 to 5 weeks each.
Special note for 2024 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2024 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2023 many schools were fully booked during the holidays, and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2024 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

From the airport, the accommodation is easy to reach in less than 30 minutes via public transport, taxi or with the school's airport transfer service.
The building was renovated in 2021 and offers 9 studios for single use or two persons booking together. All studios have their own kitchen equipped with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and ceramic hob. All studios have sound-proof windows, ensuite bathroom, TV and free WiFi internet access.
The studio apartments are only 50m from the beach and only 10 minutes walk from the school.

The shared flat offering two double rooms is located a short distance from the airport bus station, the school and the beach, a shopping mall and leisure centre, shops, fitness centre, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, banks and only 50 metres from the beach and a 4 minutes' walk from the school.
From the airport the accommodation is easily reachable in less than 30 minutes by public transport, taxi or with our airport transfer service.
The building was constructed in 2008. Students are offered 2 double rooms for single use or two persons booking together. This accommodation is ideal for any type of student over the age of 18. Students share the kitchen and living area. This is self-catering accommodation, and you’ll be able to easily take care of your own meals thanks to the well-equipped shared kitchen, including: toaster, fridge, microwave, cutlery, coffee machine, cooking hobs, and a kettle.
Both rooms have en suite bathroom, TV and free WiFi internet access.
Bed linens, pillows and towels are provided. The rooms are cleaned every 8 or 9 days with change of bed linens and towels, but also note that this service does not include cleaning of the kitchen.

Other comments The tour to see more of the island was canceled at the first stop due to a visit to the hospital by one of the participants. The organizers could not do anything about this situation, although it would have been good to give us all a full refund as the they cancelled the tour at a very early stage (only recovered half after inquiring).

Most participants (even in A1) have at least a solid basic understanding, but still take this course to learn the grammar properly, and the teachers adjust the level to the students' average level.

Other comments The format of the book is a bit old-fashioned, one must first learn to introduce yourself with all nationalities, etc. As I took private lessons I had no use for it. Family composition with cousins, aunts, etc. come before learning to act, order and ask for directions which is more essential given that we are in a Spanish city. Apart from this the book was very good with good practical exercises.

The students in my class were quite a bit more advanced than I. So if that's important to you, insist on it.
