Location: Academia CILE Malaga is located in the student-friendly Andalusian city of Malaga, Spain. The school is housed in the historic city centre and has many services and amenities nearby, including shops, eateries, restaurants and sites of interest. Such attractions of interest within walking distance of the school include Mala Museum, Picasso Museum Malaga, Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga, Alcazaba, the Roman Theatre of Malaga and more.

Course selection: The school provides Spanish language courses suitable to students of all levels and various interests. In addition to General Spanish taught in groups, over several schedules and intensities, Academia CILE also provides Spanish + an activity (horse-riding/yoga/diving/golf/tennis), Exam Preparation programmes (DELE) and private tuition.

Accommodation: The school can provide accommodation local to the school in homestay and shared apartment facilities.

Social and cultural: Malaga is a city with much history and culture, as is outlied through such sites as the Alcazaba Fortress. The city also has several top-class museums, including the unique birth home of artist Pablo Picasso, the Cervantes Theatre, The interactive Music Museum and several art galleries and museums.

“I think they normally have a lot of activities during the week. The first week that I was there they didn’t have a lot of activities. The second week they had more, but unfortunately I had made some appointments. I love that the school was in the center of Malaga. The teachers were great, but I felt I was in the wrong school. The course would have been perfect if my meaning was to learn a lot of grammar. I probably didn’t read the description of the course well enough?! Both of the yoga teachers were great.”

“But my meaning was to talk more and better. Unfortunately I was in a class where the three other people were a lot better than me. The class below that level was far too easy for me. So I was between 2 levels and the lessons were too quick for my level. I don’t feel I have learned as much as I would have liked. Also, unfortunately, there was one USA guy who took a lot of attention from the teachers. Even after we had said it to him, he continued. The yoga combination I booked it with was very disappointing. There were only two different types I could use off. And the first week I tried both but the hata was too much for me, because I have a back injury. There was only restoring yoga which I could do. In the description it said they would have yin yoga and meditation as well, but there weren’t. Both teachers of the yoga very good. I could only do two lessons a week, and the second week only one because there was no more choice. But maybe I didn’t read it well enough and 2 a week was this what it was. I only expected to have more lessons.”

“School is physically situated in a very beautiful old building in Malaga Center. Teachers were nice. The methods and facilities could be more modern. Me, as the beginner in Spanish, felt that the rhythm of the education lessons followed mostly those who had already learned more. There should be a starters’ group or the student should know some basics of the language beforehand. Anyway, all over the experience of short course was ok.”

Other comments When teachers used any kind of printed word lists and pictures, it helped to follow the theme (although my vocabulary was small). I highly recommend to use pre-prepared materials with word lists etc. to support the learning process of the students.

“The lessons in small groups were particularly good. My group usually consisted of 3 students, and sometimes there were only two of us. In regard to the learning method, I liked that a grammar topic was covered in the mornings and that this grammar topic was deepened in the afternoons by choosing a conversation topic.”

“The location of the school was very good, close to the Centro area of Malaga and very walkable. The teachers were friendly, spoke multiple languages, were open to our questions and were understanding of our frustrations while learning a new language.”

“CILE shares the location with another school, and honestly, if it wasn't for the administration of the other school (Campus Idiomatico) nothing would have gotten accomplished. To start, I didn't have my homestay address until two days before I left, something I'd need to tell my family and customs about when I would arrive. I only got the address after several emails and help from Language Course.net. Then, the school forgot about me/that I had arranged a pick-up from the airport, and when I called the number to ask if someone was there, I was told to take a taxi. Next, despite booking my classes and accommodations eight MONTHS in advance, they ended up moving me three times, so I was living in four different places whilst there, only the first of which was a homestay. After the first move, I really did not want to try and settle in with another family. Apparently, this had "never happened before", but they kept having to move me over the course of the two months I was there. I also had to hound the administration about my tennis lessons, as I had booked language and a sport. Because of this, I didn't get my second tennis class in my first week as I had to make up the first class, and my Spanish skills were (are) elementary, and I didn't have the skill to ask the tennis school about this. I did really like the teachers, they were all kind and amazing, but at the end, we (the class I had been with during my time there) found out that we had mostly been getting two grammar lessons, as opposed to a grammar and a conversation lesson each day, meaning our conversation skills were a lot further behind. All in all, Malaga was great, the experience was fun but go to a different school that has its act together, and has better reviews for accommodations, so you don't have to deal with the extra stress when you're away from home.”

“Maria is an excellent language teacher.. Tamara is a very responsive and flexible oral teacher, Dolores is a lively Flamenco teacher. There is a good selection of trips and discounts for activities I like doing.”
Insider tip: “Come prepared to do homework to reinforce what is learnt in class. Malaga was colder and wetter than I expected so come with layers of warm clothes and boots. It's worth going to the cinema in town - good range of independent or thoughtful films, many in English with Spanish subtitles - good way to improve the language. Also lively and open music scene at Shakespeare pub, a great way to meet new people and socialise in Spanish.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: There were three of us in a class, which made the course very intensive. However, the teachers spoke a lot and quickly and didn't change much after our advice. This made some things difficult to understand. I really liked the teaching time in the morning.

“Good location, workbook received on arrival, certificate issued. I liked the fact that we went straight into the pretérito indefinido, which was just right for me to start with.”

“Chairs could be a bit more modern, there could be a short round of introductions at the start of the course, I don't even know the name of our teacher, for example. We also talked too much about the difference between pretérito indefinido and imperfecto, I asked when to use the 3rd past (perfecto), but unfortunately this was not discussed. However, I already know the difference between pretérito indefinido and imperfecto from French. I would have liked more attention to be paid to individual prior knowledge (e.g. extra tasks to do at home). Overall, it was a good experience, but I think there's still room for improvement.”

“In weeks 1-3, not a single lesson started on time. This improved in week 4. I didn't like the teaching material. Except for the flamenco course, there was no opportunity to meet people through the school (especially since I was alone or with only 3 others in the class).”
Insider tip: “You should know that the "up to five yoga lessons per week" are not feasible. There are lessons at class time and 2 yoga lessons in quick succession on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, there is 1x yoga class on Wed. I was actually having class on Tues and Thurs only. But the money was definitely worth it!”

Comments about courses

The enrolment fee varies depending on the course duration:
1 or 2 weeks: EUR 20.
3 weeks or more: EUR 40.

Additional fee for late-night airport transfer (for arrivals between 22:00 and 8:00): EUR 25.

The course material is included in the price for the first 8 weeks, if the student stays longer, then there is a fee for the course book of EUR 22 every 4 weeks.

Individual classes
Single individual lessons of tuition can be reserved at 29 €. The combination of group and individual lessons is highly recommended. Individual lessons will encourage you to actively speak the foreign language and will offer you the opportunity to discuss individual problems and weaknesses.

School policy regarding bank holidays:Private classes are recuperated or refunded. Same as for nearly all language schools, group classes falling on bank holiday are not refunded and not recuperated.

Students can learn to dance “sevillanas”, one of the most popular regional dances in Spain. The dance classes are held in the school, one day per week for two hours.

Adults - Paid activities

Monuments, museums and art galleries visits.

Excursions to other Andalusian cities such as Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Ronda, Gibraltar as well as to natural environments in the province of Malaga such as El Chorro (Caminito Del Rey).
