Location: Alexandria Institute Chios is a Greek language and culture institute located on the fifth-largest Greek island of Chios. The school is within Voulamandis House, around 2kms west of Karfas Beach.
Getting around: The island has a public bus network that assists students in their travels around the island's sights. In addition to this, private car and motorbike rentals are also readily available, as are both taxis and water taxis. Chios ferry port is around a 10-minute taxi ride from the school and from there, it is around a 9-hour ferry to Athens.
Course selection: Seasonal programmes are available for students of all levels. These Greek Literature and culture programmes are available for one, two, three or four-week durations a few times throughout the year. Emphasis throughout the course is placed on Greek Mythology, legends, culture, and local traditions. Students will take part in excursions and visits to aspects of the island's ancient and medieval history, including the Byzantine mosaics in Nea Moni monastery, the medieval mastic villages and much more.
Accommodation: Accommodation is available within Voulamandis House, a 3-star bed & breakfast with various room types.
Social and cultural: The top sights and attractions on Chios include the Castle of Chios, Chios Port, the Chios Mastic Museum, the Agio Gala Cave, Daskalopetra Homerus Stone and much more.
