Venue: American English College Monterey Park is located just east of downtown Los Angeles, in the city of Monterey Park. Monterey Park is a safe place to live. It is a predominantly Chinese neighbourhood so there are many great asian restaurants in the area around the school, in fact, Monterey Park has a reputation for the best Chinese food in North America. There are several top universities in this area east of L.A. such as UCLA, University of Southern California, Pepperdine, and CalState Los Angeles.
The school: American English College has two schools in the L.A. area, Monterey Park is the main campus. Their branch campus is in Rowland Heights. AEC is ACCET accredited and runs a SEVIS certified ESL programme. They offer general English courses as well as TOEFL exam preparation. They also run a College and University Pathway programme with a large list of HEI partners, in California and other states such as Colorado, New York, Florida and Oregon, to mention a few.
Getting around: Only seven miles from Los Angeles, Monterrey Park is one of a cluster of cities in the West San Gabriel Valley which are serviced by local public transportation as well as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Bus transportation is plentiful though students will find that most locals travel by car or taxi, as travel times by public transport can be longer in comparison.
