Student comments about "Intensive French Course" at Atelier 9
Marc
"Highly recommended."
Karin
"I learned a lot in the 2 weeks and my knowledge has improved a lot."
Flora Marie
"I definitely recommend the Intensive French course, the shorter one from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. is a bit short."
Lia
"Varied lesson program with a small group and experienced teacher."
Simone
"Nice that the groups are small. A test beforehand to determine the right level and group would be good. "
Mark
"Very good teaching and content."
Stefania
"It's been twice I come to this school, and I am always very satisfied."
Gerald
"Excellent!"
Julian
"The best school in Paris "
Marvin
"Amazing school with great teaching staff and small group sizes. The focus on applying the language was extremely valuable and fun for me."
Katherine
"I was in Hadrian's class at first, then I switched to Annika's. While I was only with Hadrian a short time, he was very encouraging and pleasant, with a good sense of humour. Annika was the instructor I was with the for the rest of the classes. She really knows her grammar and was very strong in her explaining of idiomatic expressions and Parisian culture. She also had a good sense of humour. I would suggest this school to anyone wishing to learn French or improve their French. The small classes force you to speak up in French, which is, of course, the whole point."
Leonard
"Course materials somehow oldfashioned and complicated.
No flexibility to adapt to specific needs of the student, even if explicitely asked for. Promised to take up some of the needed topics, but never did."
Justyna
"Fantastic people!"
Special note for 2025 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2025 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2024 many schools were fully booked during the holidays, and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2025 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

Student comments about "Semi-Intensive French Course" at Atelier 9
Laleh
"The teaching method was great as it really helps students to progress their communication and speaking skills. However, it would be nice if before starting each class, the teacher explains on the day’s plan, lessons and general things to be learned and discussed during that day."
Jessie
"I took the semi-intensive course for a month and I have mixed reviews about it.
I really enjoyed the class, but I have to say there is no syllabus provided at all. You just come there and you don't even know what you will be learning for the day.
On my first week, we were learning about COD and COI. I didn't have any issues with it, but it could have been very helpful if we have been given the syllabus for the week in order for us to be ready for the class - it's for students who want to take the initiative and have a better learning experience.
Different teachers have different teaching approaches here. I have to raise my concern here that although I believe the classes are great, some teachers will really stick to their methods. My previous classmate has anxiety issues, she does really well in class, however, when asked to standup in front of the class to present, she would have difficulties managing it. The first time it happened, she couldn't handle it and stepped out of the class whilst presenting. When she left, I then told the teacher that she has issues when presenting in front of a group, but well, he still insisted in carrying out his "public speaking" method. Some of my classmates including myself were very disappointed with this as the class is for language learning and not for public speaking. So, if you have any issues with public speaking, maybe you should raise this to the teacher from the very beginning.
I wasn't able to join the activities after class, so I couldn't really comment on that.

“The small size of the school and especially its classes make for an extremely personal atmosphere and are fantastic for improving your French (or Spanish) quickly. I have since been in larger schools with larger classes and I dearly miss the atmosphere at Atelier 9. That, and the free coffee.”
Insider tip: “Take advantage of the theatre classes, they're worth it.”

Other comments Everyone who works there was completely fantastic and they were never reluctant to help me with any problems I had outside of school.

“Good atmosphere (students between 16-70), small classes (between 6-10 students), emphasis on talking, young teachers, fair price (compared to other schools)”
Insider tip: “Join the free activities like the theater workshop, the guided tour (excellent!), and the picknick. The school also has a good collection of French movies which you can rent DVDs for free (you only have to make a deposit).”

Other comments All in all a good school for beginners and advanced students. Unfortunately the school dos not offer specialized courses (e.g. business French or literature), so if you need that you should better look for other places.

Other comments I am grateful that I found this school. I chose it because of comments like mine on the internet. Here you learn to speak. Of course you are doing written exercises which increases your ability to speak and retain information. The teachers are very enthusiastic and I would say commited to teaching. The classes are well rounded in terms of age - from 23-65 yrs. I hope to return next year.

- Can Atelier 9 arrange accommodation? What is included in homestay, single room?“Atelier 9 does not arrange accommodation for students, however we will be glad to process an accommodation request as soon as we receive the enrolment from the student. Our partner agency will be glad to contact the student directly for all accommodation details including the invoice which is directly issued by the agency. We have arranged for accommodation for many students from Language Course in the past and we are very confident with the service provided by the accommodation provider. Our partner agency handles the bookings for accommodation directly with the student to make communication easier. This course includes a culture workshop once a week. The Intensive French course from Atelier 9’s Paris school offers a friendly and relaxed learning environment, which is made possible through their commitment to keeping each group to a maximum of 9 students. The school follows a much more communicative approach compared to more traditional styles of teaching French, and for that reason features a large amount of conversation activities, such as role plays based on everyday situations, or debates about current events, and so on.
Students are encouraged to participate actively, so this course is suited for those who are enthusiastic about the prospect of speaking as much as possible in class.
The school also offers a range of workshops that you can take part in, such as pronunciation workshops, and French music workshops.
