Your morning lessons are divided into two parts, usually taught by two different teachers (UK & Ireland). Lessons concentrate on building your knowledge of the language, focusing primarily on helping you increase your vocabulary and improving your grammar so that you attain the levels of accuracy you require. Lessons also work on improving your overall communicative proficiency and fluency, focusing on the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition to this you will work on specific pronunciation difficulties and expand the range of language you use in real-life situations.

The CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is the most widely recognised and respected initial teacher training course internationally.
For many schools, the certificate is a prerequisite to teaching English in the UK, Ireland and abroad. You will learn teaching techniques and gain teaching experience with genuine language learners.
This is the fastest way to gain your fully accredited CELTA qualification with CES. Choose to complete a 4-week face-to-face course on location in one of CES' three Official CELTA Training Centres (Dublin, Edinburgh and Leeds).
Sessions are delivered each day by experienced tutors focusing on teaching skills and theory before candidates have an opportunity to apply this in teaching practice. While this course is delivered in a face-to-face format, adaptations and considerations needed for online teaching are covered during input sessions.
Teaching Practice is held daily with each day ending with feedback with your tutor.
As with all CELTA course formats, candidates must complete 6 hours of Teaching Practice, 6 hours of observations and 4 written assignments. 100% attendance is expected for input sessions and Teaching Practice.
CELTA course requirements:
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- University degree or have a standard of education equivalent to being able to enter university.
- Non-native speakers need to have a high C1 / C2 level.

The CES centres across Ireland and the UK have a strong teacher training focus with 3 schools being CELTA centres (Leeds, Edinburgh and Dublin). All centres have highly trained and experienced teachers who have been involved in the creation and delivering of many types of further development courses through the Comenius, Grundtvig, CIEP and Saxony-Anhalt programmes.
In addition, CES has excellent and carefully selected homestay accommodation and there is also the option of residential accommodation in most locations. The schools also have a comprehensive year round cultural and social programme. CES schools are members of EAQUALS and IALC. All teacher-training courses are eligible for Erasmus+ funding.
These courses take place over either one or two weeks in Dublin or the UK (Edinburgh, London, Leeds and Worthing). CES places strong emphasis on cooperation and collaborative learning. It is their belief that students learn much from engaging with their classmates, as well as engaging with the course content. Therefore, a lot of the course content encourages peer to peer tasks. The courses provide opportunities for discussion and the sharing of ideas with colleagues from different countries.
The aim of the course is to understand and deliver upon the practical needs of the participants, to ensure that the impact of the material covered is not gone in a week or two but is indeed sustainable. Everything covered in these courses is meant to be useful to the participants, who can then apply it to their own learners and classrooms.
CES Teacher Training courses are intended for English language teachers or teachers of other subjects who wish to refresh and expand their language skills and/or analyse, discuss and practice different teaching approaches and methods.

One of the best ways to improve your English is to choose homestay accommodation. Family life is informal and the people are welcoming, friendly and talkative, so you will have plenty of opportunities to practise your English. All CES homestays are carefully selected and regularly visited by our Accommodation Officer, to ensure consistently high standards.
CES Edinburgh homestays are located across many areas of the city. Typical travel time to the school is 40 minutes (and around 20 minutes to the city centre). Travel times may be considerably longer during peak weeks (for example during the Edinburgh Festival). Homestay accommodation includes breakfast and dinner (evening meal) 7 days a week.
There can be a maximum of 4 students per family at any one time.
During peak season an external accommodation agency may be used for homestay students travelling in groups.
