Venue: CPI Heredia is in San Joaquín de Flores, a quaint town in Costa Rica’s Heredia province, just north of the country’s capital. A safe and slower paced alternative to studying in busy San José, CPI Heredia offers students the possibility to experience local culture in an area with relatively few tourists. The Central Valley region, where San Joaquín is located, is surrounded by a volcanic mountain range and the school organises excursions to visit the closer peaks: Poás, Barva, and Irazú; as well as trips to local coffee plantations and orchid farms.

The school: CPI (Centro Panamericano de Idiomas) Heredia was founded in 1991. These years of experience have granted the school insight into what foreign students hope for when travelling to Costa Rica, shaping and inspiring the school and its programmes. They offer General Spanish courses, as part of a group or as one-to-one lessons, and they also offer courses for Spanish related to specific professions: Medical; Business; Social Work; Public Safety; and Pastoral Care; among others. Additionally, they offer Spanish programmes for children, or families; programmes for retirees; and they organise volunteering possibilities for their students.

Getting around: From the San Joaquin train station, the school can be reached by car in less than five minutes, or 15 on foot, and it is only a 15 minute drive to the International Airport serving San José, Juan Santamaría (SJO). It takes half an hour to reach downtown San José by bus.
