The Intensive Plus Academic course is for students who want to supplement their Intensive Course (morning classes) with extra conversation classes. These small, afternoon conversation classes focus on improving your fluency and developing a more natural form of expression in English. Teachers concentrate on increasing your vocabulary and idiomatic language, as well as facilitating meaningful discussion within the group.

This course was conceived for students who want to work on a part-time basis, spend time with friends, or participate in the school's extensive social programme. The Intensive Plus Academic course was designed specifically for students who are preparing to join an undergraduate or postgraduate programme in an English speaking university. If you already have a good level of English, but need to develop the additional techniques and skills necessary for academic study, then this course is the most suitable option.
This 4-week course provides 20 hours of group lessons and 6 hours of small group tuition weekly. It is held three times a year and is offered subject to a minimum number of course participants.

Once you have gained an appropriate level you can take part in other 20-hour/week courses, such as our Cambridge and IELTS Examination Preparation courses.

About this course

They will have the opportunity to expand their scientific vocabulary, as well as enhancing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Learners will work in teams alongside STEM experts and engage in activities such as designing mathematical functions; building micro controlled projects; and having fun with Newton’s laws of motion.
Emerald, in collaboration with the prestigious Trinity Walton Club at Trinity College Dublin, is delighted to offer this unique programme that allows students to enhance their STEM knowledge while improving their English language skills.
Trinity Walton Club was named after Ireland’s first Nobel Laureate for Science, Ernest Walton (06 October 1903 – 25 June 1995). The Club is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) club based at Trinity College Dublin, where students connect with like-minded individuals and STEM role models. Each day students are provided with an invigorating learning experience where they partake in a range of challenging STEM sessions and activities. Trinity Walton Club strives to support each student to reach their STEM potential and experience lots of Eureka! moments.
Students aged between 14-17 will join a STEM camp at Trinity Walton Club, in Trinity College Dublin. They will have the opportunity to expand their scientific vocabulary, as well as to enhance their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. About this course
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English proficiency across the globe. Our IELTS exam preparation course teachers focus on developing key techniques and strategies specifically for the IELTS examination. We give regular practice tests and coach you on the correct and most effective approach to each section of the test. Our Academic Team can help you through the application process for the IELTS examination.
Additional practice for the Listening and Speaking components of the exam is provided on some afternoons during the weeks leading up to the examination. Teachers also assign work to be completed in the language laboratory outside of class time and a tutor is available to assist with this.
The IELTS examination preparation course is available on an ongoing basis, subject to the minimum level required.

Trinity Hall is an official residence of Trinity College Dublin, which is available to our students during the month of August. The residence is situated in the quiet residential area of Dartry in Dublin. It is only a short 10-minute LUAS (tram) ride to the city centre.
