Location: Instituto Superior de Español (ISE) Macas is located within the indigenous Shuar Community of Amazonian Ecuador. This unique experience blends learning Spanish with the insights of living within the community of an Amazonian tribe. The Shuar Community is several hours by bus from Quito Mariscal Sucre International Airport.
Social and Cultural: The cultural exchange of living within the Shuar Community may be a real eye-opener for many students. Activities and excursions included in the programme can be traditional Shuar celebrations, journeys into the jungle with local guides, trips to waterfalls, and optional volunteer work within the community.
It is recommended that students take snacks with them as the local Shuar Community may eat the same meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Please note that this programme takes place in an authentic Shuar Indigenous community. It is very different than staying at a lodge because here you will really live, learn and understand their way of living as well as the synchronism they have with nature, you will depend on what nature produces and there will not be much access to technology gadgets. Facilities are shared and food will be prepared from what nature produces. Here, of course as a part of the ecosystem bugs are common to see.
