Throughout the programme, you will quickly develop your French language communication skills across a range of real-life contexts. You will take a total of four lessons every day, with one half being devoted to vocabulary building, grammar, and pronunciation, and the other half focusing on the traditional four pillars of language acquisition listening, reading, speaking and writing.

This programme makes use of a course book in order to provide a clear and easy-to-follow curriculum, and will be supplemented by dynamic activities that get you involved with your classmates. Some of these methods might include case studies, debates, role-plays, and reading magazine excerpts together to later give your opinions.

During busy periods the General English classes may be run at different times of the day.

“Even though there were 10 students in my class, my teacher controlled the class very well and we could participated in a lesson very actively. A coordinator could help me well during my stay. As the school is located in a business district, you can enjoy shopping and sightseeing. You also felt to be a "Pariseienne".”
Insider tip: “I recommend you to go over the conjugation of verbs before taking a level check test.”

Other comments: There are only two toilets in the school. As there're many cafeterias around the school, most of the students go out for a coffee during a break and get relaxed.

“The teaching was top-notch. I am a prof myself, and have supervised teachers, and I can honestly say that it was a complete pleasure to take classes at LSI Paris. The other students were also really friendly and the atmosphere was such that it was easy to socialize; there was a real "esprit de corps".”
“Nothing! It was great.”

“I like how the teacher helped me to speak using French, although i only knew several words. Teacher (Marice) was enthusiastic about her teaching. I loved the class size also. It was not big so there was enough time to ask questions and enought time for each student to practice speaking French.”

“Dedicated and committed hardworking teachers who were interested in teaching and having us learn. Serious attitude of school with weekly Monday morning tests to evaluate the progress in terms of materials previously covered in class. Punctuality and attendance were emphasized.”
Insider tip: “There were only 2 other Americans besides myself in the 4 weeks I attended. The first class had 8 students. The second class for two weeks was a combination of two different classes by the school and had 16 students. It was way to large and there were very different levels among the individual students. All but one in this very large class were female. In the fourth week, the class had about 10-12 students in it - all female. Most students were young college age 20-somethings. A few of us were in our 40s-50s-60s. Many of the young female students appeared to be from wealthy and privileged backgrounds and circumstances.”

Other comments: It's a very international school and they are serious about their mission of teaching French to foreigners and getting their students ready to take the required national exams which the French government requires for foreigners who want to work in France. I also took private lessons in afternoon which helped me greatly in terms of conversation.

“Excellent location. Classes started right on time. I was placed in the right level, with some students above me, and some below me, but all of us at more or less the same level. Very friendly school, very easy to talk with Daniel if there were any issues.”
Insider tip: “Join the Tuesday afternoon excursions with other classmates. A good way to meet people and make friends. The Centre Pompidou is right next door and has a fantastic library (closed Tuesday), where you can study. It's open until 11 p.m. Bring a notebook and different coloured pens, also pencils. There are little cafés very near the school, so getting a snack during the morning break is easy.”
Details of the review
Quality of teaching / language progress: The course was excellent; my teacher Léa is wonderful. She is a very talented and creative teacher, also fun and funny. All of us enjoyed her teaching style and ability to help us learn very much. Every Monday, new students would join the class, and the class seemed to jump to a higher level each week. Some of us wanted to slow it down to be able to absorb what we'd just learned. However, by Wednesday, the class was generally able to gel and work together on the more complex vocabulary and grammatical forms.Other comments: The chairs don't provide much space on the tiny attached desk. Would prefer a real desk. The class level got increasingly more difficult each Monday when new students joined. I started at level A1, and the class jumped to level A2 after just two weeks. I could handle the grammar alright, but I needed more intensive work on very basic level French verbs, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

“I did a month of 20-hour classes, started in one class and finished in an upper level class, where I had a great time. Ivan and Maione good, he for advanced level with challenging and interactive lessons, she for general review.”
“The value for money is not adequate. It is really too expensive. Inadequate classrooms and equipment, inadequate extra activities. I say this in relation to the price.”
Details of the review
Quality of teaching / language progress: Overall a good assessment of the teaching.I would have liked more classroom conversations and interactive lessons ( this Ivan does a lot). Also they were working , to learn vocabulary, on inappropriate topics such as "sustainable economy and pollution. I would have preferred to work on topics like how to live in France, in Paris. Basically I know how to say depopulation and diversification but I don "t know how to say fork and knife....

“The location of this school is fantastic. It is situated very close to a lot of the historical and tourist attractions in Paris. This made it convenient for me to study French and see Paris as well.”
Insider tip: “Sylvia's class - Grammar and Listening comprehensions always followed by very informal conversations about topical issues and everyone got a chance to participate.”
Details of the review
Other comments: I booked the intensive 30hr course and I was at A2 level. The course was excellent with two sets of classes with two different professors. The only thing I will say is that the morning class had more students some of whom were a little young and immature for me personally and somebody was late every morning.

Other comments: This school is great for high school and college/university students, but if you're a little older you might want to look elsewhere. I think you pay a lot for this school's location (near the Louvre), which is fantastic, but the facilities were not that great--during the busy month of June the tiny classrooms were packed and noise from neighboring classrooms and outside construction sometimes made it hard to hear.

“Excellent teaching. Very good course materials. There was an environment and atmosphere of friendliness and care!”
Details of the review
Other comments: The first assessment was almost impossible. I feel it would be better to give a slightly more accessible assessment and so at least give students a chance to respond to questions and show what they do know. Excellent teachers but it might have benefited students if there had been more chance to have more 'extensive' one-to-one conversations in class with the teacher. Students might need encouragement in the public domain but that sort of practice is invaluable and because there were sometimes 15 people in the class it might only be a couple of times a week when the teacher could possibly ask a student about their time the previous evening or what they intend that evening or next day etc.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Although we were a relatively large group with 12-13 participants, our teacher had a real talent for managing the 5-6 nations and age groups from 19 to 62. Well structured and still plenty of room for lively communication.

"1st homestay was inconveniently 40-45 minutes away. My room was fine, but the apt was teeny-tiny and jammed with the owner's belongings. I was not allowed even a tiny shelf or a hook in the bathroom to put my things or even a towel. The hostess offered me instant coffee, even though she has a coffee maker. She let me use her coffee maker, but I had to buy my own coffee. I thought that was kind of cheap. The dinners were very nice, though she did not serve wine. I had to buy my own wine, and I felt a little uncomfortable being the only one drinking wine. The 2nd homestay was much more conveniently located, and the hostess was delightful. However, she was on a 3-day grapes-only diet, and dinner was almost nothing during this time (french fries & lettuce only one night!) I chose to eat out several nights, as the food was so terrible. However, the room, the location, and the hostess were all wonderful, so I didn't mind too much, and I would even stay with her again.

Can I book a 2:1 private lesson for myself and my 12 year old son?
“We apply an age restriction of at least 16 years. I'm afraid your son is too young to attend our school.
Our teachers are excellently qualified to teach adults, but unfortunately not children. We cannot give a 12-year-old the same curriculum as an adult.
There are different methods and tools used for younger learners and this is a very different pedagogical methodology.”
Daniel, from LSI Paris - Mar 23, 2023
I am interested in a French course for adults that takes place in the middle of the day.
“The LSI school offers a course called "Afternoon 10" which consists of 10 lessons/week from 13:40 to 15:20, in which students can choose between general French, conversation classes or exam preparation.

Rubén De Haro, LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 16, 2023
Could you tell me about the French with History of Art? I m only interested in learning about the history of art but not wanting to draw or paint.
“This course includes 20 French lessons in the mornings with 3 art workshops per week. Students will have an introduction to French History of Art in the afternoons (2:00 pm - 5:00pm). This programme will be given by one of the teachers who has a PHD in History of Art. It includes one hour theoretical introduction to one subject of History of Art followed by the visit of one exhibition around the subject that was presented during the class. The aim of this course is to combine French with the rich art heritage culture of the country and let students discover the basis of French History of Art. The students will be taken to the most famous Parisian Museums such as The Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou, Musée de l’Orangerie, Grand Palais, Musée Rodin, etc.

FAQ about LSI - Language Studies International, Paris

I plan to book an eight-week course. I would prefer to book for the first three weeks, and then renew for another 5 weeks if my daughter likes the course. I would like to ask if she will have any issue doing this once she has started and completed the first three weeks?
“You can book for three weeks and then extend for another 5 weeks once she is there. However, she should let us know at least one week before extending if she’s not requesting accommodation and two weeks before if she’s requesting accommodation.”
Daniel , Admissions Officer from LSI, Paris - May 31, 2024
Can I cancel my studies after my course has started?
“Cancellation after the course starts is possible, but the course fee will not be refunded.”
Louise Granath, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 14, 2024
When do I have to pay the remaining fees to school?
“The remaining amount for the course will have to be paid once you receive the invoice of the school, and no later than 14 days before the course starts.
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 31, 2023
I am 67 years and have always dreamed of doing a French language course in Paris. If there are no senior courses offered by the school I'd like to know if they organise any cultural programmes.
“LSI Paris does not offer a senior course. I can recommend a standard French course (mixed age class) which is scheduled from Monday to Friday. LSI Paris will organize 2 activities per week. Every Monday there will be a French movies club with French subtitles displayed for free at the school after the afternoon lessons. Every Wednesday there will be a cultural activity organized outside of the school by one of the teachers. Other activities are organized by one of their partners, the International Youth Club of Paris. These activities are optional and students are welcome to join them whenever they want”
Daniel , Admissions Officer from LSI Paris - Mar 24, 2023
Where the host families located?
“Most of the families that the school works with are located approximately 20-27 minutes by public transport from the school. This information is approximate and is reported by our former students. You will receive details of your host family 1 week before the departure date. ”
Madly Simba, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Mar 15, 2023
My daughter and her friend are 16 and 17 years old. They have been studying French for approximately 3 years, but their level is still advanced beginner/early intermediate level. Which course would you recommend for a 2 week focused learning experience?
“The minimum required age for the adult courses is 16 years at LSI. The general 20 course is a good choice. They will take a placement test and they will be placed with the right group according to their level. They'll study all aspects of the language: speaking, grammar, writing, reading. However, if they want to progress faster I’d advise them to consider the Intensive 24 or Intensive 30 course. If students book the intensive 24 and 30 they will study the same lessons as for the General 20 course and they will choose electives to complement their course.

Daniel Quintero, Admissions Officer from LSI, Paris - Dec 16, 2022
Is the Intensive Programme with 24 lessons per week eligible for a student visa application?
“The Intensive 24 is eligible to apply for a student visa since the student must follow at least 20 hours per week which is the number of hours of this course.”
Daniel Quintero, from LSI Paris - Sep 01, 2022
What does the "partial half board" option mean in a homestay?
“"Partial half board" means that dinner is not included on Friday & Saturday as the host families may be away in the evening. Then lunch is included. During the weekdays it is usually breakfast and dinner. ”
Sabine Krafack, from LanguageCourse.net - Mar 02, 2022
Do I get to choose or have an influence on which family I will stay with?
“The school will match your request to a suitable host family, so it is important that you mention in the comment field of your booking if you have any specific requests for the family. All the hosts are monitored by the school, so you can be sure that they will be welcoming and everything will be clean. When you stay with French hosts you get to sample the local culture and customs, and they can often offer you advice on what to do in the local area. It is a distinct advantage to be able to practice the language in the evenings, around the dinner table if you book half board (breakfast and dinner).”
