What we dislike about the school
  • Accommodation placement fee is quite pricey.

Location: LSI is right in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, and there is plenty to see and do around the school, with numerous bars, nightclubs, restaurants, shops and cafes lining the streets.

Getting around: There are two subway stations within 10 minutes from the school by foot. The Granville Station has the Expo Line running through it, whilst the Vancouver City Centre Station is a stop on the Canada Line. Close to these subway stations is the Granville Train Station.

Major attractions: The main attraction in Vancouver is Stanley Park. The entrance to this is a 30-minute walk from LSI or a 12-minute trip via bus. Granville Island is another important feature of the city. Students can walk to the ferry and hop across the river to reach the island or take a bus. Both options take around 25 minutes. Vancouver Art Gallery is a short walk from LSI.

Course structure: General English courses can be taken as group classes, individual lessons or a combination of the two. Exam preparation courses are possible for the following exams; IELTS exam, the Cambridge Exams, the TOEFL exam and the TOEIC exam. The English used in a business environment is a course option. The school has junior courses in the summer months for those under 18 years of age.

School facilities: The school has a student lounge, a terrace, a kitchen space with a microwave and fridge as well as a vending machine.

Social activities: There is a monthly calendar of activities students can join to practise their English with other students.

Chain school: As a group, Language Studies International (LSI) has schools located in 7 countries throughout the world. These countries include France, the USA, England, New Zealand, Switzerland and Canada.

For over 55 years, LSI has been supplying tuition to adults, juniors and teachers. Their schools are accredited internationally by such accreditors as EAQUALS, Accet, the British Council, English New Zealand, Languages Canada, and more.

“I particularly liked the location of the school. It is very central and easy to reach. The school also offers free activities several times a week. I chose this school again because I had a great experience with it a few years ago. I was there for 2.5 weeks and had great teachers. My English improved a lot during that time and the lessons were fun. This time, too, I had two great teachers who were attentive to the students and provided assistance. Overall, you get a warm welcome at the school and the staff are friendly and helpful.”

“The lessons are teacher-dependent. I was there for a total of two weeks. Unfortunately, I was in a different class during my second week. This teacher hardly felt like doing any lessons, which annoyed me a lot. I invested time and money and learned nothing during this time. The classrooms are also very noisy. If you turn on the TV in the next room, you can easily hear it in the next room.”

“In the school, consideration is given to the individual strengths and weaknesses of the students. This enabled me to improve in the areas relevant to me. The small class size has made a decisive contribution to my progress and I would definitely visit the school again. To get the best experience, you should take part in some activities, especially at the beginning. The organisation of the language course was very quick and straightforward and if any questions arose, I always received an answer very promptly.”

“If you already have a high level of English (C1), you should limit your time at school to 4-5 weeks. After a certain point, the increase in the learning curve decreases at the highest level.”

Individual classes
Single individual lessons of tuition can be reserved at 105 C$. The combination of group and individual lessons is highly recommended. Individual lessons will encourage you to actively speak the foreign language and will offer you the opportunity to discuss individual problems and weaknesses.
