The average age outside summer is 7 years higher than in summer.
Location: Piccola Universita Italiana Tropea is located in the charming medieval town of Tropea in southern Italy. The enchanting narrow streets of Tropea offer a fantastic setting for immersion in a new language, with the Piccola Universita Italiana well situated in an 18th-century palazzo in Tropea's Old Town. There are several eateries, restaurants, grocers, convenience stores and attractions within walking distance of the school. Such sites of interest include the beautiful beaches of Spiaggia della Rotonda, Lido Calypso and Lido Costa degli Dei, and the powerful Santuario di Santa Maria dell Isola di Tropea overlooking the coast and the town centre.
Course selection: The school provides courses suitable for students of all levels and many interests. In addition to General Italian programmes, combination programmes of Italian plus specific subjects such as scuba diving, painting, catamaran sailing, windsurfing and cooking, are also readily available throughout the year. Fantastic programmes for active senior students (60+) are also readily available at certain times of the year, in addition to programmes tailored to the needs of Erasmus+ students and one-to-one or two-to-one programmes, which are available in conjunction with or independently from any other programme.
Getting around: The school's central location is great. As Tropea is a small town, everywhere is generally easy to get to on foot, with bus and train networks readily available for trips outside of the town. Tropea train station is around a 10-minute walk from the school
Accommodation: The school can offer accommodation in shared apartment facilities throughout the year, subject to availability.

The Standard course, or the Complete course, refers to Piccola’s Italian language program in which both grammar and oral expression are developed together on a weekly routine of 20 lessons.
Since this programme can be started on almost any Monday of the year, you will be able to jump in at any time. All students who sign up will be asked to take a placement test that measures the level of their current Italian language abilities.
The maximum number of students per group is just 8, guaranteeing that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to participate verbally in your lessons and be able to resolve your questions and doubts.
– 1st lesson from 09:00 – 10:50 or from 14:00 – 15:50.
– 2nd lesson from 11:10 – 13:00 or from 16:10 – 18:00.

If a group of at least 3 students at the same linguistic level cannot be formed, then this student will be placed in a 2 to 1 course or will receive private tuition with the number of lessons reduced by half and will have 2 hours of daily lessons: 1 hour of grammar and 1 hour of conversation with the same teacher.

Special note for 2025 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2025 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. In 2024 many schools were fully booked during the holidays and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2025 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

Other comments Maybe it would be good to inform students that the price doesn't include neither the welcome evening in restaurant or any of the trips (in case you take transfer).
Students should be told at the beginning that any political discussions are not welcome (no Trump, Merkel, Berlusconi, etc) They get emotional, start to speak English and ruin the class :)

Other comments For me, as a beginner, it was rather difficult to communicate all the time only in Italian (It is the schools' philosophy) But the staff will speak German as well as English if it is necessary. On the other hand, through this way and after just one week, I can understand and read much more Italian now then before!

“Very uncomfortable chairs. I missed some things that were announced in the info, e.g. borrowing adapters. The teachers had to keep changing their whiteboard pens, and I got the impression that they were poorly equipped with them. Unfortunately, not all of the announced program items were offered. The excursions can only be paid for in cash. In some rooms it was too loud, you could hear every word from the next classroom, which really disturbed our own class. I would have liked more variety in the subjects of the lessons, the subject of weddings and meals came up many times. Unfortunately, there was hardly any repetition, so that I have now taken a huge amount of vocabulary with me, but I cannot use it.”

"There was no contact person. It runs via the school, but they are very busy. The remote control does not work. The shower head cannot be fixed. The kitchen equipment is absolutely substandard. The lamp above the bed - the bulb must have burnt out.
Overall, the studio is really pleasant in terms of location and size.
But the terrace, for example, is not clean. I guess they don't sweep it. I don't know if the school is responsible for that. Overall: Would love to be back in this study because of the great location. "
