Pine Manor College English Language InstituteBoston, USA

Pine Manor College English Language Institute has ceased operations - Permanently closed down

Location: Pine Manor college is a private college situated 20 minutes by car from Boston, Massachusetts. Pine Manor College English Language Institutement (ELI) is an integrated part of the college focused on teaching English to foreign students and is a great way for its students to blend in with campus life and the students that attend the college.

Getting around: Chestnut Hill is a very safe and calm village and the area surrounding the campus is peaceful and scenic with regular buses to the city centre. Most of these are a 5 minute walk away from the school and take under an hour to reach Boston. This allows students to dip in and out of a busy city life and benefit from a more tranquil environment to study and learn in.

Local attractions: Once in the city, students can visit the Museum of Fine Arts, walk the Freedom Trail, a historical depiction of downtown Boston or stroll around the Faneuil Hall Market Place, a large shopping centre. Boston has an excellent subway system running throughout the city and depending on where you hop off the bus, students can use this to navigate the city. Basketball is a popular sport throughout the USA and the Boston Red Sox are the local team. Students who want to experience the electric atmosphere of a live game can visit the team’s stadium, Fenway Park, by taking a 45 minute bus to the entrance and seeing for themselves the excitement that this sport creates.

Public transportation routes: Boston-Logan is the city’s International Airport and an easy 30 minute drive away from the college. Alternatively, students can use public transport to reach the college, which depending on the time of day, generally takes an hour and 15 minutes with a couple of changes. To the South of Boston is Carson’s Beach, a great way to relax in the summer months, which is just 20 minutes by public transport from the city centre. Boston provides its visitors with the hustle and bustle of city life, the calmness of the beach and a great environment to learn the English language.

Course structure: ELI is a great opportunity for those wanting to further their education in an American College. Not only is the school located within a college where interaction with students from the USA is encouraged but the school provides courses specifically aimed at helping a student understand the vocabulary used in a College environment and help with the application process along with other administrative tasks involved in attending a college. The University Preparation course does just and is available for those at an intermediate level of English and higher. Students can book accommodation on the University campus in a twin room to really immerse themselves in college life. General language courses are available and ELI has created a Language and Excursion Programme, which includes 20 lessons of English per week, accommodation, daily activities and 1 weekly excursion.

School facilities: There are excellent facilities including a cafeteria, a restaurant, a computer room, a library, a lounge, a garden, a student support desk, an auditorium and a range of daily press to read.
