Location: Portuguese Connection Lisbon is located in the historic, coastal city of Lisbon, Portugal. A city famed for its culture, delicious food, beautiful buildings, and good weather, Lisbon is a popular destination for students worldwide. The Portuguese Connection school is housed in Principe Real Square, in the heart of the city, and is within walking distance of many shops, cafés, restaurants and many of the city's attractions. Within a moment's walk of the Lisbon Botanical Gardens, The Museum of Natural History and Science, the Mirador of São Pedro of Alcântara, and the Principe Real Garden, students have much to enjoy in the proximity of the school. The school resides in a historic building but has a modern interior, with walls painted in graffiti and spacious communal zones equipped to provide comfort.
Getting around: There are excellent links to public transport, ensuring that the Praça do Comércio, the Castelo de S. Jorge, and the 7 hills of Lisbon are just a short journey away. Lisbon International Airport is within a 40-minute journey of the school via public transport.
Methodology: The school focuses on communication throughout its teaching methodologies. Use of role-playing and outside learning activities in natural contexts, such as going to the market, which assists students in linking their learning to real-world uses of Portuguese.
School facilities: The school also has a library, computer lab and offers free WIFI. All classrooms have heating and ample natural light to create an optimal learning environment.

"In the end, we don't get 4 hours of learning a day because the hours include a half hour break and the classes always start late. so it ends up not being 20 hours a week, more like 17, which is less value for money. "

Special note for 2025 holiday season: If you plan to take a course during the high season months of April, June, July or August 2025 we urgently advise you to book as early as possible. “The school is in a very nice location. The size of the classes was very pleasant. You got a new teacher every week. They all had different characters, but they were all really nice and cool. At the beginning, it wasn't easy to listen to and speak Portuguese for 4 hours. But after a while, you got used to it.”

“Overall, I found all the staff to be very friendly, personable, open-minded, helpful and dynamic. The two teachers who taught me during the time were very well trained and had a very good general knowledge. They helped to break down barriers in speaking with their uncomplicated manner.”
“The classrooms are very small, so no more than 8 pupils should get a place. Usually, however, there were 9 to 10, so that spare chairs with backrests were really "squeezed in". All in all, the whole area was cramped and there were no facilities such as a library or quiet room as stated on the school's homepage.
There was a lack of interactive phases in the lessons and overall I would have liked more space for speaking, reading and practising pronunciation. On several days, there was (too) much writing, especially grammar, which I found a shame given the precious time. The teachers talked a lot and it was predominantly classic frontal teaching.”

Single individual lessons of tuition can be reserved at 39 €. The combination of group and individual lessons is highly recommended. Individual lessons will encourage you to actively speak the foreign language and will offer you the opportunity to discuss individual problems and weaknesses.

Portuguese Connection organizes free cultural activities once a week. You can visit museums, historic places in the city, or you can try some Portuguese delicacies or even simply have a drink with the students in one of Lisbon magic places! The point here is to practice the language while enjoying the city and getting to know about Portuguese culture and history.

“In case students have learned Portuguese before, a our placement test is required to assess the level and place the students in the correct level/course. The test will be sent before course. It is an editable pdf with 50 multiple choice questions and a written part.
