RUN Languages, Saint-Pierre (Réunion Island), France

Location: Reunion Island is a small French speaking island in the Indian ocean, to the East of Madagascar, often referred to as the French Hawaii. The currency on the island is Euro and here you can experience a perfect blend of traditional island life with the security of being a European island. Run Language school has its home in Saint-Pierre, the third largest commune on Reunion, and is situated in the south of the island.

Getting around: There are two International airports on the island for visitors from around the world to enter the island. The first is in the capital city of Saint-Denis, 90km by car from Saint-Pierre, whilst Pierrefonds Airport is 5.5km from the southern commune but is considerably smaller. The island is well connected with a road running all the way around its coast, the full circumference taking 4 hours without stops.

City features: The centre of the island is a National Park, nestled amongst this is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Piton de la Fournaise, and the dormant volcano Piton des Neiges. Run language school is right in the heart of Saint-Pierre, just over 10 minutes from the main port. Saint-Pierre is a lively port town, with sandy beaches and a selection of different restaurants lining the main streets. 30 minutes by bus from the school is the Domaine du Café Grillé, a coffee plantation which gives an introduction into how plants were introduced onto the island by humans.

School environment: Run language school has qualified teachers, and due to the European standard that the island runs by, the school follows the guidelines of the CERF Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The ethos of the school is immersion, with an emphasis on communication and real life scenarios to ensure that students leave with a practical understanding of the language.

Course structure: There are various courses on offer here including general language lessons, private packages, a DELF exam preparation course and a family programme. There is the opportunity to specialise in a particular area using the French language associated in that field such as Business, Fashion, Diplomacy and International Relations, Tourism, Hospitality and Catering as well as becoming a teacher in French. They also have age specific courses including an over 50s package and a teen programme to show the diversity of the school.

Leisure activities: After class activities are available to get to know the local area and a weekend excursion can be joined to explore the islands main attractions.
