What we dislike about the school
- Average age of students is a bit higher than at most schools. Great for students 25 years or older.
Location: Solemar Academy Cefalù is located in the beautiful coastal city of Cefalù, Sicily, Italy. The school is housed a couple of blocks from the waterfront, surrounded by eateries, restaurants and supermarkets, whilst also being within walking distance of such attractions as Cefalù Cathedral, Cefalù Beach, the Lavatoio Medievale Fiume Cefalino and much more.
School facilities: The school facilities include 5 classrooms, a hall with a sofa, a library, a coffee machine, a well-equipped kitchen and a communal outdoor space. The school also provides free WIFI and free parking to their students.
Course selection: Solemar Academy Cefalù provides various courses suitable for adult students of all levels. In addition to General Italian courses available over several schedules and intensities, the school also provides a Club 50+ programme, Italian and Volunteering, Learning while working, and Exam Preparation programmes (CELI).
Getting around: The school is just 600m from the train station and within a short walk of the beach, giving students an excellent opportunity to enjoy the city and its surroundings. Many of the city's attractions are within walking distance of the school, ensuring much to see and do nearby.
Accreditations and associations: The school is accredited by many organisations such as Bildungsurlaub, CSN, CELI and DILS-PG Exams, EDUITALIA and ASILS.

In 2024 many schools were fully booked during the holidays, and the situation is unlikely to be different for 2025 due to a current shortage of teachers, which affects most schools.

Other comments Cefalu is a tourist town - which has many restaurants and shops, but they do go on winter hours or close down at the beginning of November so just be aware. Despite this it’s still a great town!

I am interested in learning Italian from scratch in Cefalu. I am 60 years old and unfortunately I do not know English, which usually makes communication easier. Would the lack of knowledge of English make it difficult for me to stay in a language school and whether my age range is appropriate to start learning?

Is the apartment far from the school?
“The shared accommodations offered by the school are located in the upper part of the city. The beautiful old town centre is just a 10 minute walk away. The road back is uphill but shouldn’t present a problem to anyone used to moving around on foot. Solemar Academy Italian language school is just 900m away. You will receive the exact address after confirmation of your booking and up to 1 week prior the starting date.”

Are there many stairs to the apartment offered by the school? (It's necessary to know this for me because I have arthritis in my knees)
“The accommodation is on the second floor, the way back home is a little steep on the last 400 meters, so it is not ideal if you have problems with your legs.
We would therefore recommend you to book a hotel or B&B, even an apartment but with elevator available and in the new part of the town to be closer. In the old town all buildings have steep stairs and no elevator available.”
