Course Description
This course is designed to dramatically improve students’ natural speaking style. Fluency is the goal for students who take this course. This will be accomplished by using quick-response activities to build up students’ speed (fluency) and extensive one-on-one teacher-student feedback to build accuracy.

Period description
Period 1: The opening period will have students reviewing weekly video journals, as well as sound recordings of themselves mimicking and imitating a native English speaker. The second half of first period will have in one pronunciation, understanding how to improve speech clarity and accuracy.
Period 2: The second half of the morning section will have students working on building their vocabulary through oral presentations, dictation from popular cinema and modern dramas. This will allow students to become more familiar with popular slang, idioms and influential / useful English expressions
Period 3: Third period will have students filming “a day in the life” videos, weekly news reports and in-class debates that will give students the chance to feel comfortable discussing hard-hitting topics confidently in English. All assignments, video footage and inclass presentations / debate will be reviewed in class as part of final mark assessment.
Period 4: The final period of the day will focus more closely on media, video recording and will give students the opportunity to get on the street, interviewing and communicating with locals to secure footage to include in the SGIC weekly news and various other video-based assignments.

Course Outcome
This programme is designed for international students who have already reached an advanced level or have completed 8 weeks of SGIC’s Advanced ESL or who have outdated TOEFL/TOEIC scores; but who have gaps to their knowledge needed to succeed at a Canadian college or university.
It is designed to fill the academic gaps needed to succeed in post-secondary programmes instructed in English. The course covers all the language skills comprehensively: reading, writing, listening, speaking, including sub-skills such as vocabulary and grammar within an academic context of a variety of tasks/assignments typically found in Canadian post-secondary institutions.

Course Description
Business Communication plays an important part in this course. Each student will compile a body of written work in a portfolio. Each student is also assigned to research a country of his/her choice in a comprehensive project on business in a global setting, with emphasis on business and communication without borders. The students will also give oral presentations based on their written reports.
At the beginning of every lesson, newspapers are reviewed for vocabulary, global news to gain awareness of our world, and any new technological development. Phrasal verbs and idioms for the workplace and everyday life will be reviewed so students become conversant with Canadian and North American business and culture.
Practical Business English is a practical part of the course that offers students an opportunity to explore modern business concepts in a North American English-Speaking context. In addition to the wealth of vocabulary taught pertinent to business culture, students will be working in a skill-enhancing environment.
Students will gain confidence and acquire the experience and knowledge in the following skills: how to make effective telephone calls; the process of negotiation to become a better negotiator; how to prepare for job interviews and how to organize and deliver powerful presentations. Students will finish the course thinking more worldly, more business conscious, and equipped with English skills applicable to the business at large.

Course Outcome
SGIC IELTS Preparation Programme is designed for students to learn and master the techniques of each part of the exam: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Understanding the challenging questions and vocabulary is half the battle of succeeding on IELTS. SGIC’s programme also concentrates on the vocabulary and comprehension needed to increase test results from students.
Results.
SGIC IELTS Preparation Programme aims to give students ample practice tests in which to apply their techniques and augment their English and to focus on weak areas in order to make solid, consistent improvement. SGIC’s experienced and professional teachers will provide regular assessment reports for each student to understand their strength / weakness and level of exam preparedness. Test-taking stress management will also comprise a small portion of the course.
After 8-24 weeks of intense preparation, SGIC aims to equip students with the skills to score a minimum of 7 on each of the exam components.
